I wanna still be here for Old Man Ryu at 90 years old, still playing Super Mario Maker like a crusty Cranky Kong yapping, "The kids these days! They dont know how to appreciate what they've got. Back in my day, the hot garbage was on a whole n'other level!"
That makes me wonder, how old is Ryu? I wondered that before when I saw his wife in the christmas videos for the first time. Please noone take this the wrong way, I don't know his wife and don't have anything against her, but Ryu looks MUCH younger than his wife. And frankly, this is why I put a disclaimer not to take this the wrong way, she looks like there was a little surgery done on her face. So I'm wondering, is Ryu just really young and good looking for his age or did he fall in love and marry a much older woman. Again, this isn't meant to be judgemental, it's their life and they seem very happy with it, which is great. The context of it just made me wonder about Ryus age and made me think he probably looks amazing for his age 🤔
@user-fm8fj1cs1n How is it insulting if there is no other way to put it? I have NO IDEA how old Ryu is, I'm 27 and he played much much older stuff than me, so I assumed he was probbaly 20 years older than me at most but looked young. Here's my question. How the hell should I have worded it better huh? I don't mean to insult anyone, but what? Am I supposed to lie and act like she does not look like what she looks like? I was curious because this made me think Ryu is much older than he looks so I asked, that's all there is to it. There is no insult. Let me guess, your reply would be that I should just shut up if there is no nice way to say it? But that line of thinking is stupid. It leads to people being afraid to say anything potentially offensive and if people don't ask questions, they never learn anything. Sure, learning Ryus age isn't particularly important or anything, but it's about the principle. You can't criticise me for prefering to ask truthful questions over being nice and shutting up. And again, I can't come up with a single nice way to ask what I asked, because it's the truth that she looks like that. That does NOT make her a worse human and does NOT make her and Ryus relationship any less happy. But I guess you must run around and call people pieces of shit for asking uncomfortable questions with no harm meant? If you ask me, that makes you the real piece of shit. You are the type of people that claim themselves to be inclusive and nice while going off and insulting anyone that says anything that is mildly uncomfortable to you. How about not insulting someoen right off the bat when I made it clear TWICE that this is not means as an insult and is genuine curiosity and that I have NO OPINION on Ryus wife, I don't know her at all. But again, that doesn't matter to you. You just want people that say stuff you don't like to shut up. Even when no harm was meant or done. I am certain Ryu and his wife, as they are actually adults, wouldn't even have much of a problem answering me this. Because realistically, this topic has been brought up for them multiple times in their life and they can deal with it by now. Because again, I am not randomly insulting her. I googled her to make sure I'm not misremembering and no, I am not. There was one picture where she looked totally normal from a certain angle, but in every straight up shot it looks like a facelift was done on her cheeks and her lips got some filler. That's simply what it looks like. I won't lie about it to make little crybabies like you happy. I prefer staying truthful and asking potentially uncomfortable questions.
Pretendo has been hosting Mario Maker levels for quite a while now. I setup my WiiU for it about a year ago and played at few levels. The issue though is that there is no 100 man and it's only levels made my people on Pretendo. That said I know the pretendo developer has said they have two different archives of Mario Maker levels. One before uploads were turned off and one afterward. The dataset is in fact more than levels and includes all "items" uploaded to the servers. So, they need to figure out how to merge these datasets, parse out what they want, and merge it into the Pretendo levels. Also get 100 man working. I feel like they're not in an incredible rush to do it as they'd want to fly below Nintendo's radar so-to-speak. However you can absolutely still play Mario Maker 1 in some limited capacity today, and there is some promise to expand what's available.
If Nintendo wants to take this away from us (I say "us", but I never owned a Wii ), then let the fans restore it. Most gaming franchises' fanbases has this, where if the official developer won't give us what we want, or if they want to take away from us what we love in games, you can count on the fans with the programming knowledge, to give it to us/return it to us. I have no doubt the ones trying to restore Mario Maker 1 will be capable of restoring 100 Mario Challenge. Restoring an entirely lost network feature, AND restoring Miiverse, is already a great leap to accomplish. Let's just hope Nintendo doesn't axe that. I may be a Nintendo fan, but I'm not blind to the horrible decisions they've made.
@@zigazav1 I understand the frustration and mourning, but Nintendo doesn't shut down these servers for fun... Keeping those systems running and accessible means that you have to keep them up to date and secure, which after such a long time may at times require large changes. And every major change in the infrastructure has to accommodate the fact that this horridly old system has to remain working. The amount of planning that this causes! Or you really keep developing the platform - which costs you even more personnel. And you cannot afford it to become insecure - it contains sensible customer data and access to payment, and may in the worst case be an entry gate into your whole network. And Nintendo needs those people. There's little doubt they are right before the launch of their new console, which, it seems and I hope and pray, will be backwards compatible, and that will demand change over change in the infrastructure for the switch... So far, they've always been lenient on people who offer their old generation things online. I hope no one provokes them into changing anything.
At 7:56 , ryu does some of the most crazy maneuvers and got so lucky, and then 20 seconds later at 8:18 he just gets completely trolled. this is why i love ryukahrs videos
Not being able to remove stars is one of the first things they should have patched into MM1. I've seen some of the hottest garbage get accidental stars
RYU! The Kunoichi stage is the female version of sasuke aka Ninja Warrior in America. Technically its prnounced SAS-KAY as they dont pronounce the U in Japan but the SMM stages are all based on the real life obstacle course and thats why those types of levels all seem to have breaks in between tricks!
I saw that too. There must be a hidden star somewhere. Probably tucked in the bottom left side of that far left bumper. I don't think Ryu tried there when looking.
You are making all of us so dang happy that you pre-recorded a bunch of these SMM1 videos! Thank you so much for these! And you were right. There really is something special about SMM1 that SMM2 just doesn't have. Those 100 man runs are just.. yeah.
Your cadence is so iconic. I do it to my friends sometimes and it never gets a laugh except for myself but it’s so worth it I can’t get it out of my head
On the one hand I want to chide Ryu for not doing a better job of finding any hidden boxes, and on the other hand I want to extol him for having the sheer willpower to beat that level honestly.
Nah they probably just beat it in one go without resetting after each jump like Ryu did. Like what shenanigans can there possibly be in that situation?
That first level is a bite sized bean burrito. It just needs to be longer, maximum level length, main _and_ sub, and it would be an XL bean burrito. Thank goodness it's only five.
Ruy, for years I've been watching your videos, and I much enjoy them. So what I miss forever is a deathcounter. I hope you read this, and this reaction get lots of likes so you know your followers want the same. It would be so much fun to see how much you really suffered for the 1st level for example. Keep up the good job and greetings from The Netherlands.
Hey Ryu just want to say Thank You for always producing great quality content! Im an Aircraft Mech working for a major airline and the job can be stressful. You always help me relax while I eat my lunch at work 😊 hope you keep creating for years to come!
I'm more of a casual viewer than most people here so I apologize if this has already been answered at some point. Have you played or heard of Gravity Circuit? It's a game that is heavily inspired by Mega Man but does so much different/better than any of Capcom's games. The combat is really tight and the controls are great. The difficulty is fully customizable with the easiest difficulty providing no challenge if you get extra gear, whereas the hardest difficulty seems near impossible without using any of the optional stuff. The game is super fun and I think Ryu would like it. Does anyone here in the comments who have played the game think he should give it a go? I'd love to see a first playthrough and then another where he's on the hardest difficulty and can't use Burst Techniques, Health or Burst Energy upgrades, or Booster Chips. I've tried and it's ridiculously hard.
You know what's actually crazy is that now when Ryu goes to get a world record in these prerecorded videos, people can't just hop on and take it, it's his forever now XD
You should save a few of these and drop them or one of them in an iba year or two out of nowhere. It'll be the best surprise to come back to. If you have enough you could probably keep it going as a yearly tradition till SMM2 shouts down then you can start with that.
I hope tremendously that Mario Maker comes alive again on Pretendo. According to their site, Mario Maker for the 3DS is over 80% ready? It would be super zany if Ryu made Mario Maker 3DS vids!
Naw, 3DS Mario Maker's only level sharing features is Streetpass, something Pretendo can or has restored and makes it work online. SMM1 on the Wii U actually lost most of it's content because it was all on an online database. 3DS SMM1 had an offline level database pre-installed into it
I just had the funniest thought. I’ve been watching your vids for years, every single upload, and I only know you as Ryu. Then I thought what if your name is like Devin or something, and I’ve been watching a Devin play SMM for years. Don’t know why that cracked me up.
The worse a level is to play, the better the content! 😂 What if...all these years, he has made multiple secret recordings... How many years can we continue to watch this amazing game, even if the servers went down?
A million deaths makes a solve, It was nice to see you finally beat the bumper level and get some nice easy ones as your run. Enjoying them as they last.
Man, that first level could use some editing in the deaths. You don’t have to show us every single one, and that’s coming from US so you know it’s gotta mean something
Great to still see some MMK1 content, hopefully it isn't the last. Btw, Kunoichi is indeed kinda like "Sasooki" (pronounced Saské), as a kuniochi is a female ninja if I remember correctly (Sasuke being a male ninja in the popular anime/manga Naruto).
