@@ChinaDriven I think it's going to be very much welcomed from european customers who are getting sick of being forced to pay too much money for any equivalent european car.
You asked: Will it dominate in this price segment? Chinese consumers answered: 15,000 monthly sales just 3 months into mass production of the Seal, even though Tesla has been forced to cut prices on the Model 3 to try to compensate. So yeah, I think it is fair to say that BYD will dominate this price segment.
@@Harrythehun Indeed sales of the BYD Seal are now down to around 6,000 units a month. Although I guess that is to be expected with Tesla and everyone else engages in the 2023 mother of all car price wars in China, but for whatever reason BYD didn't start discounting the Seal until just a couple of months ago. But that doesn't mean BYD isn't selling a whole load of sedans, they just chose to lower the prices on their other sedans instead. Besides the 5650 Seal EV sedans they sold in July, BYD also sold 11,455 Qin Plus EV sedans, 11,634 Han EV sedans, 2,550 Qin EV sedans, 13,603 Han PHEV sedans, 11,994 Destroyer 05 PHEV sedans, and a whopping 30,700 Qin Plus PHEV sedans. Although no single model can touch the actual king of pure BEV sedan sales in China, GAC's Aion S, which notched over 22,000 sales in July. So I guess price really is king in the Chinese market.
Great video! BYD has come a long way from its Hybrid Taxi days. Your channels contents have also been very good lately but higher number of videos about 1 per week may be necessary to really take off.
So....I'm gonna come right out and say it!!!! A SportBrake version of that with some proper, usable storage capacity would make the ultimate (EV) travelling sales car. I wonder could it get close to 600kms real world range ???? I just found out that these are coming to Ireland and I am very excited to see it. Well done BYD
CLTC estimates are very generous. In some situations more generous than the older NEDC. I’d say you’d be pushing 500km in the long range with a light foot and not too much speed in the real world.
When m3 was out years ago. There was very few other options. Now with Byd seal and Han sedans, EV6 , Nio ET5, Ioninq 6 plus others. Model 3 is over rated.
Not true, model 3 is one of the best selling EVs in China despite strong local competitions from BYD, Nio, Xpeng and many more. That alone says a lot about the quality of model 3. The Chinese consumers have lots of choices, yet they continue to choose the Model 3.
Can't wait for a test drive. Good chances this will be my next car. But I couldn't find any information about max speed? Might be only a specific german problem as you can only go those speeds on the autobahn, but if it only goes like 160km/h, that's a knock out criterium.
Now what we want is a People's Car with all the building refinements of the Seal in a hatchback form, slightly shorter with rear-wheel drive and not too low to the ground.
Dude don't get me wrong I love this BYD Seal, but newer design is always refreshing and 'innovating'.. So let's not forget how long has it been for Tesla to start things off in the EV market (even the Model 3 is 5 years old) and the competition it brings to the world to challenge.
@@rationalreminder458 it depends on your style. I love the nordic/minimalist look of it, but I think it needs an exterior refresh since its a 6 year old design
Mate. Great video. Awesome camera work and engaging, informative presenting skills. Clearly a lot of effort goes into your content! Keep up the great work. You deserve to be successful! Sub'd Maybe work on the singing skills though 🤣
This looks so much better than a model 3, which like all Teslas has weird styling like someone didn't quite know what they were doing . I'd pay $10,000 More for this than a model 3, but it's actually cheaper. Crazy. Sell it in Canada and I'll buy one.
It steers like an absolute champion. Coming into the test drive me, jayinshanghai, wheelboy and TIY all thought the same thing…another BYD another day. Then we drove it met up and boy oh boy we were wrong! Check out TIY video where he interviewed us as we stepped out from our test drives… ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CG9mKBoeX48.html go to 11:50 in that video everyone worrying about us being paid or being overly nice. check this video out. we stepped out and TIY put us on camera straight away before we had anytime to to even think or record.
Any word on the charging speed? Xpeng made a big deal of its 800V charging speed. G9 charges quite a bit faster than Y even on lower tier chargers. I wonder how Seal matches to M3 in terms of charging.
@@ChinaDriven Also, XPeng’s G9 uses the 800V to power the motors. That way it gets some amazing efficiency. The same range per kWh as Y while being one size and 250kg larger than Y. It’s supposed to be difficult to power components with 800V. It requires high quality SiC semiconductor instead of Silicon ones. 800V would melt silicone. I would be interested in how much of the Seal infrastructure is 800V. If it just steps down the voltage before it gets to the motors, then it wouldn’t get true 800V efficiency.
I’m planning to do a review of the 2023 BYD Han! But it won’t be a head to head with the Seal. I’ll give you my generally thoughts. The BYD Seal & BYD Han are aimed at different people. The Han is about 16cm longer overall than the Seal, so a little bigger, but their wheelbases are the same. The Seal comes with a double wishbone upfront and the whole driving feel, exterior look, interior look is more sporty compared to the Han. The Han is more sedate in it’s styling and handling dynamics. It’s aimed more at the business/professional person, maybe slightly older crowd. The Seal is for perhaps younger people looking for something a bit more sporty. The BYD Han EV is running on the older 2.0 e-platform vs the Seal on the newer 3.0 e-platform. So no 800V for the BYD Han.
They can ban chinese cars from the market. It has a lot of electronics, it may spy on you and send your data to china. The us government neede to protect you from china.
I bought one 2 months ago. Beased on my situation, at least 340 miles per charge when you get the long range virson. However, it would be less during winter. Still a good car though.
@@yuhaoli2607 thats still great for a car at this price range. I have a model 3 which have around the same range but I could definately see my next car being a BYD with how much they have progressed.
yeah so the thing with the names is that it makes sense in the original Chinese. The Ocean series names are all animals that started with the same character 海 which means sea/ocean. So 海豚(Dolphin) 海豹(Seal) 海鸥(Seagull) 海狮(Sea Lion)
Great looking car. However I think I missed the information on the charging times for various percentage levels and the rates of charging to various percentage levels?
Absolutely correct. It’s claimed on a DC faster charger to charge 20-80% in around 30mins. We didn’t get a chance to recharge this thing, nor do we have figures for using faster charging taking advantage of the 800V system.
Love the humor and delivery. As you say the regen braking is weak compared to the model 3 and one pedal driving is not possible on the seal as from other reviewers, but when you come to a stop say at traffic lights, do you need to put your foot on the brake to keep the car at a standstill?
Come on byd! Just give him a bigger trunk where it opens above rear window. Than it would be the perfect ev coupe. Luxury and functional for a very good price. Please adjust the trunk for 2024 😂 i would buy it directly!
Saw the real thing. Beautiful piece of engineering. Range of 700km is top. Interior is a little bit busy. Interface needs some serious work. Wish there was a SUV version of this. Don’t care for the Atto3 interior
gorgeous looking car with high tech features. I love it especially with long range at 700km/435miles. tesla model 3 long range only runs 325 miles and costs over $45k
It's like saying "I'll marry that supermodel in the magazine rather than the beautiful woman on my street".... That you actually have a chance of dating. Untill you meet "the model" you have no clue what she's actually *really* like.
Looks damn good, especially inside. Will be a game changer in Europe, if the taxes won't rise the price too much. Small boot, though. But How about real range?
I normally peg CLTC to be 70% of real world range. Ofc depending on driving environment. But the Seal was returning decent range for the battery usage if memory serves correct.
The boot is on the smaller side. but then again compact sedans aren’t known for massive boots. Add in the Frunk and the overall amount of storage is average.
Saludos al canal .Por favor ingenieros de BYD activen al seal conducción a un solo pedal y pongan el consumo promedio cada 100 km y no cada 50 km La inmensa mayoria de usuarios se lo agradeceremos
great vid on a great looking car, with its amazing performance and great handling, this car gonna give bmw 3 series and merc c class with ICE a real hard time, the car looks both tight and dynamic at the same time, very impressive
The BYD recently got a slight refresh and price change. When this was recorded the BYD hadn’t officially launched so we didn’t have the exact pricing. insideevs.com/news/666614/byd-cuts-seal-prices-ev-sedan-now-18-percent-cheaper-tesla-model-3/
Hopefully they will address their rust issues before they go on sale here in Aus. Otherwise they will be DOA compared to established brands like Tesla.
Fantastic that you are a fan of this EV! Chinese domestic market is spoilt when it comes to EVs, there are so many great products! But when we filmed the BYD Seal media drive we were together in a group with many foreign media. And all I can say is that the BYD Seal blew us away. Honestly between us all, we’ve driven so many BYD EVs, but this completely surprised us all in its ability to drive. There is no other BYD that drive like this. Sure the BYD Han EV dual motor is fast but the BYD Seal handles in such a sport way that we never could have imagined based on our drive of period is BYD EVs. This one breaks the mould. A true drivers car
No announcements yet. But BYD did announce bringing other vehicles in the Europe, so we can expect to see the BYD Seal at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.
Tesla cost cutting minimalist design render the model 3 and Y so unsafe to drive. BYD seal premium is my choice and 10k cheaper compared to the rear wheel drive model 3 in Australia.
Yes it is now. But at the time of recording it was uncertain what this was going to be called overseas. Even at this point it hadn't been decided if the BYD Dolphin was going to keep it's name or be called the Atto 2. All the foreign media were in agreement that Atto wasn't a great name.
Honestly, I don’t know, only drove and saw it in the daytime. Didn’t really inspect to see if the handles are illuminated. There are puddle lights I believe under the wing mirrors.
haha yeah you noticed that haha. I accidentally hit the memory seat setting just before recording the speaking A-roll at a traffic light just as it turned green. hahahahhaha
It looks like the Pontiac version of the model 3. Really feel like Tesla and Porsche are winning the styling game atm. Not saying it's bad or that I wouldn't buy one.
Is this compliant with the US federal safety standard? I don’t mind paying 5k to ship it over to the US(the quote I got from Alibaba seller to ship a sedan from China to the US). It would be doped if it can be titled and registered in the US
It will likely needs to be modified somewhat in order to meet the US standard. The design is basically more aligned with EU standard. The question is will US allow it to enter its market given the domestic political atmosphere.
BYD EV competition which what we need in the electric car market the people who should worry I are BMW Audi Mercedes and Volkswagen but with the cost of EV's I would rather have a pickup because you can do more with it and they cost anymore to run The vehicle market has changed
Nice car, wonder what happens when Tesla sells a compact sedan around the same price range. Tesla has better tech in their cars. Not sure if BYD is losing money selling these. They hide their financials when it comes to their EV sales.
Biggest challenge: avoid the death trap of US auto dealerships monopoly when coming to the US! People want the freedom and honest pricing, free us from the crooked-made-their-own-laws dealerships!
I understand the concern with dealership markups. But at the same time I think Chinese companies entering a market with no dealership network will pose problems. A brand with no standing in that market and no dealership network may make customers worry about how and where their cars can be serviced or fixed. Especially because these are new cars never seen in the market so there are not 3rd party shops with access to parts for repair. How they go about establishing trust and a repair network will be critical in western markets.
