I spoke with my doctor yesterday and asked him if he could support me in my efforts to stay away from taking medications, and he said no because the powers that be won't pay him and this is how he makes a living. I had to ask him to explain when he said NO. I thought I was hearing him wrong. It's the same thing as being incentivized to get patients on prescriptions. Seems like the government and the drug companies are in bed with each other. I mean why are the drug and food industry together in one administration, The food and drug administration? Corruption at its best.

They are all in bed together big Agra and big Pharma are all in bed together and of course the government supports this that's why we need to go off and be our own advocates for ourselves I walk to my own drum beat I'm a rebel naturally and this lifestyle and walking away from all of the powers that be came naturally for me. I only go to the doctor to get blood work done when it comes to anything else I tell them hands off because I know what they're doing they're looking for a reason to pull me deeper into their web and I won't do it

Walmart sells a blood sugar monitor and test strips. You don't need a prescription to buy it. While it is not continuous monitoring it can provide insight. What is your fasting glucose, blood sugar before a meal and 2 hours after. This way you know how a food affects you. Lots of factors can contribute to your blood sugar leve, food, stress, water intake, physical activity , sleep, metabolic age, etc.

@ceresfast2414 Two of my doctors refused to order fasting insulin, on several occasions that I asked them. I had to go to a functional medicine doctor to get the tests I wanted. Shes on the carnivore diet herself. I called a locally owned pharmacy (not Walgreens)& asked who the doctors are who support low carb, meat based diet. You can also google: low carb doctors near me

Hello, My name is Christine & I'm a 50-year-old woman who has found remission from chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was on a weekly biologic injectible medication called "Enbrel," with other prescriptions like Celebrex, Methotrexate, Tramadol & even Prednisone at times. Having RA & taking these prescriptions continued to weaken my immune system, creating insulin resistance & obesity starting at the age of 27 when I was diagnosed & labeled. I was eating the Standard American Diet "SAD." Eating plants, beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts, grains, sugar, seed oils, high carbohydrate food & staying low-fat. The standard, eat less & move more models that we all try to follow. I was sick of my joint pain, fatigue, inflammation & weighing over 220 lbs "size 18-20". So, I decided to start a high fat & whole foods ketogenic lifestyle in September 2019. I stopped eating high carbohydrate foods, grains, sugar, seed oils, & processed foods. I've adjusted my eating to mainly carnivore "meat based." I love eating cow, pig, chicken, lamb, fish, seafood, eggs, butter & dairy. Occasionally, I'll have some berries or vegetables like a little onion, sweet potato, or avocado. I enjoy drinking water, unsweetened sparkling water, coffee & tea. This delicious & satiating way of eating has helped my continued weight loss of 60lbs, severe joint pain, body inflammation, chronic fatigue, weakness, and other metabolic health conditions like anxiety, high blood pressure & pre-diabetes. In April 2023, I started implementing lifting heavy weights, strength training & balance exercises 3-4 times a week. I love hiking, biking, RV camping & challenging myself physically & mentally. It has been a new life for me! You can seek your true health every day, starting with what you eat/drink & don't eat/drink. RA recovery is my "why" every day to continue living a healthy lifestyle. This is my amazing health journey. Thank you, Christine Peters

My reply to her comment is, Good for you, and thanks for sharing. I also switched to the above diet Christine has, except, no eggs, dairy or butter, due to an egg and dairy allergy autoimmune response from Hashimotos. I am also allergic to wheat. So my health started to impoive on a meat and vegetable diet, omitting rice and potatoes. I do have an occassional potato, and consume it as a remedy to relax my nerves. Lately, I've had to pay closer attention to rebuilding nerves like for sciatica, eyes, brain, fingers, hearing with Bentfotiamine mega B1, and other B's in normal dose, up to B9, plus feverfew herb, and seeds like pumpkin, flax, chia, and hemp have been a big blessing in nerve repair. Intermittent fasting has helped me keep weight in perfect range, and my face is as tight as any youthful person. I only have a few wrinkles. Only surgery can make a difference there. A big Thank You, to Dr. Berry and other doctors on You Tube about intermittent fasting and all their other methods for better health!

Why do I think that when my grandmother did some baking, and I'm almost 70, it wasn't the end of my health. Could it be because wheat has been so unbelievably modified to spike our blood sugar? Could it be that we ate whole foods rather than crap in a box? Could it be that we didn't live on soda and fruit juice? Could it be that we weren't inundated with seed oils and trans fats? Could it be that baking was occasional and not endless and sitting everywhere in every food store, gas station, coffee shop....name it? Could it be that we went outside and lived instead of pointing our noses at computer screens, large and small? At this point, I feel like walking into a grocery store is like walking into a giant gas station junk food spot. Even frozen vegetable sections are next to nothing anymore with very little choice in what's managed to remain there. We have always grown our own veggies in the summer, we look for organic in the winter, we mostly eat meat now, we have always had our own hens for eggs, and we move our bodies at work and at leisure. And we feel so much better.

Speaking of ethical and moral, in a recent conversation with a functional med provider, he shared that he reported a local health system who also happens to offer primary insurance plans for adjusting their laboratory’s reference range lab values so as artificially deflate the numbers of people with actual thyroid disease needing treatment. The response he got after filing the report was “well, it’s unethical but it’s not illegal.” Absolutely disgusting. The “healthcare” system is so broken.

Everyone should have a CGM for free. Physicians need to wear them and see how they do under the recommendations they give us diabetics. They need to understand what insulin resistance means. Last week in the hospital I was on the cardiac floor and I felt like I knew more than they did as far as diet and carbs. They wanted me to get 45 carbs for breakfast, 45 for lunch and 60 for supper. My base dose of insulin was 15 units plus a few extra units. My blood sugar was higher and higher. I didn't eat all carbs I was encouraged to order. If I tried to order more protein I was told no because of the fat content. No egg salad, no to a hamburger. I was actually discharged with a blood sugar of 308.

I am 66 and have been overweight since my first (of two) children. If you find it hard to even think about giving up the sweets right now, start with shortening your eating window. Start with where you are, which sounds as if you’re eating all day long, and shorten it to maybe 12 hours, focusing on having whatever you want but in distinct meals with no snacks. Make the sweet treats you have a dessert for your meals. Then, shorten it to 10, then 8, then maybe even 6. Do it over a period of weeks and see how it goes. As far as exercise, only do it if you’re feeling inspired and don’t worry about it until then. Eventually, it gets to the point where you’re eating less of the junk just because the eating window is shorter. Just do it as you’re inspired and try not to force yourself to do anything. Add in more protein and fat to your meals, and see how that affects your eating habits. Then go from there. I know it’s hard to imagine, but people who do this often lose interest in eating so much junk, especially once they feel satiated from the protein and fat.

I found it interesting that Dr Berry, after eating so well for so long, has the trigger foods calling his name. It is that trait in me that has caused failure after failure after failure. I can go for months and not eat carbs or sugar and then suddenly nothing satisfies until I finally succumb, which sets off a season of binge eating. I am nearly 70 and this fight is tiresome. I used to control my weight through exercise and bulimia so I ate whatever I wanted to. I am now handicapped and exercise is painful. I don't barf anymore so I am rather fluffy, but I'm always trying to lose. I tried carnivore but the taste of meat got to be a bit too much.

I’ve found that the Costco steaks are SO much better than the grocery store. Maybe try this alternative if you live within an hour. It’s worth the drive. Pricey but so much better in flavor. But the prime or choice ribeye. Or we buy a tenderloin & cut it into steaks. Or even Eggs scrambled or hold back a few yolks & add them in last so they can be really moist. I’ve done sockeye salmon from Trader Joe’s & loaded it w spices to cut fishy taste. Or tuna. I too, fail every 15 or 20 days. I’ve been analyzing & sometimes I just didn’t eat enough the day before. Or I watched the news. And that’s stressful. So I’m careful what I expose myself to. I’m almost 60 and though my weight is just a few pounds (5-10) over normal, I’m strongly addicted. I feel like it’s a lifelong battle. Even when I fail, I get up, dust myself off & get back on the horse. Or cow in this instance. Kelly hogan advises no diet drinks. But I drink my electrolytes with a stevia blend. Without it, my muscles cramp. So considering trying only water, once I run out of my electrolyte blend. Sometimes it helps if I don’t eat after 6pm. But the other day… it was strong… I could not talk myself down from a small binge. It’s like the addiction hijacked by normal rational brain… 😢 What’s the answer for those of us that suffer the 20 day or longer ninja attacks? No one seems to have a good game plan.

I'm not sugar addicted fortunately but I am addicted to cheese. So I have a small piece each day. I've just started carnivore. I had a go at keto but found it difficult to not eat mountains of veg. I love veg. I was referred to a dietician as I refused to take statins. At the time I ate meat and vegetables but no carbs (bread rice potatoes) I ate one large meal a day and a snack of cheese in the morning. The dietician said I must eat carbs, cut down on veg and eat more meat. I did try. I was also given diuretics. So I lost 10 kgs in three weeks which I think was fluid. I then had a course of steroids and a course of antibiotics for a skin problem. Totally messed my stomach up. Weight now the same as it was. I take pre/probiotics, magnesium, iodine, D3/K , plus diuretics, blood thinners, high blood pressure tablets (I've been able to reduce the dose), 1 a day multivitamin and minerals, an antidepressant. My aim is to lose weight and get off as many of the meds as possible. 🤞

I do know for sure if you eat calf liver, beef liver or chicken liver that it DOES make you feel better. Not many places even have the liver. Dale's in Birmingham has good liver and also Niki's is a good place for liver only one day a week ( check with them). So glad for Dr. Berry's and Cynthia Thurlow's guidance. That is, I am not greatly troubled by cravings or temptations to cheat. I can look forbidden foods in the face (or in the fridge) and not be tempted to eat them. Once I decide against them, that's it. I think that many people have very little self-control. It's like a muscle that needs to be exercised to have any great strength. The reason so many native Americans have a higher rate of diabetes and obesity is the introduction of government subsidized foods full of processed carbs. The ones who are able to get back to their roots and eat their native foods, their health improves. That alone should tell us something. They didn’t ask to be carbolics, and it’s not their fault. The food industry needs us to be carbon neutral addicted to thrive.

They believe in their doctors even if they are frustrated with the system of Health Care. They take all the prescriptions even if they struggle with how many they need or how to pay for them. The name Health Care System is an oxymoron. When I talk of the Proper Human Diet I get push back almost completely. I have not convinced one single person to fully try it even though they see the proof before them. I'm going to be 59 this year and looking back over the decades, and nobody in my family ever had type 2 diabetes, no one really had heart disease regardless of how much they weighed, smoked YES! SMOKED! Or how much alcohol they consumed. No one had metabolic issues, I had one set of grandparents that would lay down and have a conniption fit if there wasn't Pepsi in the fridge, regular Pepsi, sugar & all, both smoked and one loved his vodka, neither one had diabetes, never went to a nursing home, neither were on meds, my other grandparents smoked like chimneys and drink like fish and again no one ever saw a nursing home or was on any kind of meds. Of my four grandparents and both my mom and dad and myself no diabetes. We always cooked from scratch when I was growing up we had cakes, cookies, pies and homemade cinnamon rolls & apple turnovers (pie crust with fresh apples frosted with glaze) for breakfast in the winter, meat and potatoes for supper and on weekends we made homemade pizza. I wore a size 3 and my mom who is the better part of 6 ft tall didn't weigh much over 150 lb and only one of my grandparents was obese. We were too poor to buy processed food and chips but my God could we bake! Crisco was always in our pantry and we used it in everything! By the time I was 30 my cholesterol was only 150. So like anybody else out there scratching their head I cannot figure out what the hell is going on with our culture that everybody is obese little kids are obese and have diabetes and heart disease like only a few old people used to. So what is going on? I keep asking myself what is in today's food that is doing this?? I still cook from scratch and granted, I don't have cakes cookies and pies in the house all the time, I gave up sugar in my twenties and I just can't stand the taste of anything sweet so I don't have a problem there but I think it's wheat. That was one ingredient that's been in my lifestyle all my life and I honest to God believe the wheat that we have today is different than the wheat that my family members & I grew up on. Right now as it stands, I will not have standard wheat in my pantry at all!! As far as I'm concerned, today's wheat is all fucked up! I use Einkor, buckwheat & spelt ONLY. If I want pizza I make it from scratch, if I want chicken strips again I make those from scratch, even French fries. I don't buy any dough, again it's made from scratch. Surely it can't be people are eating out from McDonald's and other fast food joints so much that they have this problem? Sure that contributes but people can't be eating 100% of their meals from processed food are they? I'm not going to say anything bad about people wanting to test their blood sugar, and I think if we have the degree of metabolic dysfunction in our society that people need to be aware of where the hell their blood sugar is at OFTEN!! I'm lucky here in Wyoming we have Wyoming health fairs and you can get discounted blood draws done where you live in most communities out here and I find out for myself without a doctor where my numbers as far as cholesterol blood sugar liver function kidney and heart function all of that without having to go to a doctor. I've worked in the medical field for 40 years so I can look at my lab results and know what I've got going on and I make dietary and lifestyle changes accordingly and trust me, if I was having a blood sugar issue I would be monitoring my blood sugar all the time, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that in today's climate. Currently I have a wheat free diet with the exception of einkorn and spelled which I eat very sparingly and I have Incorporated a great deal of meat in my diet and natural fats but no seed oils whatsoever! I do have to watch my carbs and I feel that I'm metabolically broken and I'd like to see that fixed. I went vegetarian/vegan in 2013 and that was the WORST thing I've ever done to my body, my weight skyrocketed, my metabolism broke and my health went way down hill, my nutrition was in the toilet and my gut was wrecked. I simply went back to the diet that I had growing up (remember the 4 Food Groups of the 70's?) and it had meat and fresh vegetables, and an occasional dessert and lost 40 lb even though I was postmenopausal. Still in recovery... But improving every year

Dr Barry, I was a vegan, doing keto thanks to Dr Boz. My big question going into this change of diet was, so how do I know what’s going on inside me so that I can respond to make improvements. really how can you make an improvement and know that indeed you have unless you have someway to track it. So I gotta device tracks, my blood sugar, glucose, as well as my ketones, call Mojo. It was the best investment for my health. I quickly learned how food that was eating was affecting me. Having discovered that I was prediabetic, and having a Doctor Who never talk to me about what I could do to change those prediabetic numbers to something that was normal I found using this device was answering my questions on a daily level. So happy I found a way to track what my intake is doing to me. At one point in conversation, I happen to mention that I had a Glucose ketone device to my doctor and she responded by saying. Why would you do that.??……. my first blood glucose reading was 167, that’s rather high. And I had no idea what my daily blood glucose readings were now that I know I want to get that number lower and gives me an incentive to look at what I’m eating. To track what I am eating. And make improvements to reduce my glucose levels. And I don’t wanna become diabetic like my brothers and my husband. And they all died due to complications being type two diabetic. If I can make changes and see improvements and not be declared type two diabetic in the future, I’ve done a good thing for my health. So that opened up my eyes too how I need to be proactive in my healthcare. You’re one of my favorite doctors to listen to because I learn a lot from you. And knowledge is power. Thank you, Dr. Barry.

Many people push the vegetarian diet and make you feel bad if you eat meat and that meat is carcinogenic and will raise IGF-1. I’m a breast cancer survivor. My cancer was 80 percent fed by estrogen. Fat makes estrogen yet they wanted to give me a drug to shut down my ovaries rather than tell me my fat made estrogen and put me at risk. Over the years I’ve learned my body reacts a lot to fiber and sugar in a negative way. I stumbled on information on carnivore after finding out my colon was developing ulcers. Good conversation. I am also a person that is on the addictive end of the curve. While doing keto with all sorts of cheats like keto snacks and nuts, I was hungry and lost no weight. I am currently recovering from major surgery and forced myself to throw away all of those things. I am seeing a positive impact on my blood glucose. I am losing weight, eating less and fasting again. Of course I am still trying to heal. I might also be benefitting from the lack of appetite. I’ll have to see how I am doing in a few months.

What brand of glucose monitor can you prescribe? And where can we get this?

I get mine from Levels. 200 a month plus a join fee. Maybe another $200ish. You can also just buy 30 days once a quarter or every other month. I’m not diabetic so insurance won’t cover but my numbers which used to perfect 70’s, started climbing into 90’s & hundreds. In now takes 3,4,5 days to go down. One sweet thing will now drive it up for a long time. The CGM has been a game changer

Keto-mojo measures glucose and ketones. They’ve also got a very informative site.

I can see a lot of benefits to the carnivore diet, however, I do not trust the meat we get in our grocery stores. My local rancher charged me $12/lb. for 125 lbs. of meat. It is all grass-fed and no vax's. I cannot keep paying $12/lb for beef. I love chicken but again I am afraid of what is in our store-bought chicken.

Every single member of my immediate family had/has T2D. According to 23 & Me we do have a genetic tendency for diabetes. HOWEVER, I don't have diabetes because 35 years ago I realized that I can't eat pasta, bread, sugar or much fruit if I want to live healthy without Diabetes. So yes, it's a decision. You can prevent it and you can reverse it.

Well I could still it more than my stomach has room for on meat, butter and eggs only. But it’s less hard to stop. My whole body was and is still very swollen, but it is nice to see my massages on my throat showing results faster after 16 days as a carnivore. I had to start massaging in the evenings, because I couldn’t breath when lying down anymore. Like not at all! That was frightening, especially because I had no insurance (Germany but could not pay for it) and had so much stress trying to find money to stay of the streets being heavily traumatised at the same time, so I had problems not fainting. I would have died if I had fallen unconscious! And no one even believed me, I’m a hypochondriac and so on. My stepsister told me that this was not possible and I should go to a closed psychiatry! This hurt heavy and she doesn’t even understand that she lost me forever. I told her and I ignore her, she acts as if nothing happened, this is harder to stomach than a whole cow.

Pasta and bread were the worst for me. After strict carnivore, i am now more low carb/ animal based, i recognize that i can have a small piece of birthday cake (like truly a small piece that 3 spoonfuls and im done) and im okay. I realize white rice makes my body sore, spinach makes my body sore and lettuce. I can eat a ferrero rocher ball and i am all set. So i domt think i habe an addiction issue, i had a hunger issue and inflammation problem. Now my body is sensitive enough to pay attention to my body's signals.

Our country (and others) are run by pharma, food and energy industries through congressional lobbying. If we want change we all need to vote with our feet and with what we eat.

Lately I have been waking up in the middle of the night with a knot in my stomach. I sit up and burp a few times. This seems to be happening 2-3 nights per week. It’s like I can feel my body trying to digest the meat I eat. Is it because I need more fat in my diet?

It is a person's fault! If you eat all that junk it's a choice! No one forces a person to eat junk. The first step is taking responsibility for your own actions!

Personal responsibility is absolutely imperative. I don't like to say but...but when you quit drugs, smoking or alcohol you can stay away altogether. Food is not an addiction you can altogether avoid. You have to maneuver through food choices while in the throws of addiction. Passing judgment on someone just by evaluating their size does not provide the full picture to how they got there. Most of us deserve grace when it comes to this issue ♥

@@jennyshipp333 food is an addiction you can avoid..just as quitting smoking, drugs or alcohol it's a choice..you either make changes or you don't. I find most of the people I meet that have food addictions they do succeed because they made that choice. I have a ton of compassion but sometimes people need touch love.
