Fun fact! The US government (and many other governments) actually make D2's. They're called "coins". And love me some randomized traits/stats. Makes for more fun one-shots.
I think I do like the character creation, so a neat hack if you're a kind DM getting someone into it, maybe let players take 4+toughness on hp for that first level (like how PF2e has starting hp) then it's still deadly but doesn't feel like there's no point in even trying to dodge since getting hit means death, obviously this could work for other OSRs you might wanna smooth people, I chose 4 because it's the same hp as a 5e commoner, who are notorious for dying easily, so it should still feel deadly but not unreasonable keep in mind, this concept is for absolute newbs, if you think they have enough luck or brain cells, then don't do this (going to hard off the bat could lead to scaring them off of OSR entirely)
That makes a lot of sense! I think it depends on the players. My group that wiped in 10 minutes had a blast and liked the challenge and had a much more successful go around. BUT it's definitely something you'd wanna check in with first.
@@tabletopbro yup yup, either find a group who likes the challenge or you can homebrew it to make it easier, either by using weaker monsters or by bumping the players a bit, either works, I respect those who like challenge but when I play Dark Souls type stuff, I usually do it for the story and not for the difficulty, but I'm definitely an outlier as Hardcore stuff is usually sold on difficulty rather than story (not to say you can't have both, but DS games have an advantage over something like Mork because you respawn as the same character after you die, so you can get invested easier)
My LGS had a copy of the Heretic zine in stock I picked it up yesterday 😊 Edit: You should also check out the SCVMBIRTHER, an online character generator that lets you kill your character for a new one in one click! I got Vresi, a clumsy and dull-witted fanged deserter who got quite lucky with the rolls. Though their Zweihander is a bit wasted since one of their hands is a hook now…
@@tabletopbro It is mostly Doom Master content, don’t let the small amount of player stuff deceive you haha. It’s two full detail dungeons, two one page dungeons, a few nice tables, a merchant that trades in souls, a couple monsters, and this really weird art poster dungeon. 63 pages and the player content ends on 12
There actually is such a thing as a D2. You have many of them in your pocket. They're usually round and have a head on one side and some sort of animal or novelty thing on the other.
