Hi everyone! Really appreciate the love! My apologies, the video isn’t up to my typical standards since I’ve been absolutely slammed with work and life stuff. But I’m incredibly happy to see that you guys still liked it! I’ll be replying to your comments in a couple hours but until then I appreciate each and every one of y’all❤
I mean from their perspective yeah. I started out in LOVE with PE foam and taped/foamed up my q1 until it was insanely deep. Over the last year and a half I've found myself disliking PE/tape and preferring a cleaner clackier sounding board. Seems to be what a lot of hobbyists went through too lol
Man speaks the truth. Yesterday I rebuilt a $60 hotswap keyboard for a friend, but tried it stock first and it felt great for the price. So I am starting to question my high end board spending. Now just need to wake up and quit...that's the hard part.
Excellent take on why the QK80 is strategically designed and targeted for budget-minded enthusiasts. My personal opinion is that the F1-8X 722 is one of the GOATs among all keyboards. However, my cousin, who's been collecting Keychron and only knows Keychron thinks the QK80 is the best thing he can get. He considers it a "premium" purchase since it's more expensive than the Keychrons he's used to. So I decided to buy the QK80 for him when it gets released for GB. Again, super awesome take with this video.
I love what QK has been doing with accessibility, customizability, and price. For example, a keyboard GB that I joined has been in progress for over a year and counting, meanwhile in that same time, QK created and shipped 3 keyboards. I had a QK65 and it's honestly more than good enough more most people to be done with the hobby. Also great video format! "keyboard hobbyists eventually get bored and then start liking more bad keyboards" is lowkey true LOL. The deeper you go into the keyboard rabbit hole, you eventually wind up with some variation of Cherry MX on alu plate (I'm guilty of this).
I really struggle to get the Qk sounding good without cramming it full of foam but honestly a really good tip is take some 2m yellow automotive painters tape and put that over the flex cuts. It’s more flexible and thicker than most painters tapes and it comes in thinner strips that are the perfect size. This is cause it’s used for taping off complex edges like on the windows of your car. It sounds odd but I only tried it because I had some laying around my house after I detailed and painted my car but honestly it’s a total win. Remains flexible and doesn’t sound incredibly “tape mody” since it’s only one layer but it’s helps a ton with the thinness of the board.
Very interesting! Finally some experiement gathering what people outside of the hobby feel about two boards that are in different price range. I could only assume that the F18X-722 is more raw and viceral in sound which a lot of newcomers definitely would not prefer over sound signatures from boards put out by QK and Meletrix ("flat" and less raw). For 160 USD the QK80 looks the part compared to the wedge shape design of the F18X-722 when viewed at a glance, probably what sets them apart would be the tiny details like case tolerances, qc and so on.
Sick! Been waiting to see someone do the force-break mod on it, and at least from the video, it does seem to reduce some resonance/ping that existed before being force broken. Great stuff!
My boy keep the videos up! Just came across your channel and I really f w/ the effort you put into these. Makes them really fun to watch, and def worth the time!
Actually QK80 is sufficient for everyone. I reckon it's the snobs who will scoff at this board. I sold Mr. Suit because it provided nothing better than my first entry level board.
Another truth we all hate to hear is that we spend hundreds of dollars on keyboards, only to wear headphones / IEMs with music while actually using them.
hello how do f1 8x raw alu hold up over time? did it rust? i have the same housing in raw but i dunno if i should grt it anodized since i quite like the looks of the raw alu
That was entertaining 😂 Well it's a hobby and the heart wants what the heart wants. Everyone will love different things and if you are happy with deep sound, then congrats, it means you can save a lot of money. The same applies to Audio/Visual equipment. If you are happy with HD then no need to spend on 4k or 8k, hdr, Dolby vision. And if you are happy with RU-vid music, then you can save a lot by not having to buy expensive amps, speakers... etc. Some hobbyists end up preferring to hear the unique sound characteristics of individual switches and are willing to spend hours building and rebuilding one keyboard to achieve what sound great. There's nothing wrong. Though I was laughing when that guy made the comment.
@@qwertykeys2119 when is qk80 dropping? I am planning to order about 6 of them ...they would make Excellent gifts . I can't wait to see the blank badge.
“I think I learn that keyboard hobbists eventually get bored, and start liking more bad keyboards.” Lmfao this dude really is onto something, if everyone take a second and learn to view this hobby from an outsider perspective, maybe we’ll find that the amount of crap keyboard enthusiasts make up is truly astonishing
