I think every band should take turns writing songs based around ideas from all of the instruments jammed solo. Even writing around a vocal idea is cool. I try to write melodies on other instruments like piano, xylophone, etc.

This is exactly what YES did back in '71 with their "Fragile" album, they had 4 songs written by the band together and 5 songs written by individual members of the band with their own instrument (or voice) as the focal point of the arrangement scattered between the songs written by the band as a whole. Makes for nice albums with lots of variation.

That's how I write most of all my stuff lol. Just put on a drum groove and noodle around till something comes out. Is a great technique! Just wish I would play as half as good as you dude. Well done!

I actually do quite a lot of writting through this method. Having a canvas to write to is a good way to come up with something different that what you would usually write. I wash I could write this level of riff goodness though haha, excellent job dude :)

This is awesome! I know it would be a pain in the ass but for future vids I highly recommend recording in your DAW when you are messing with the riff and playing that audio through. If I were new to your channel I probably would have clicked off of the video when you started playing, not knowing how good your video actually sound tbh. Hope this is useful feedback, cheers mate!

Yeah fair call man! I guess my thoughts were that the camera audio parts would better emphasise the actual recorded riffs, but I guess in hindsight it was a missed opportunity to make the overall audio quality higher throughout the video. Oh well, next time haha

@@JacobMartin Five years ago, I'd have agreed with nate. But guitartube is so advanced now, we've actually kind of come to enjoy seeing some of the raw, because produced audio is just presumed to be occurring, as recording DI is the default now.

Damn the second run thru of the second beat, the riff starts at about 3:16 and ends at the two down chugs at 3:20. That dissonant thing before the slide down into the down chugs. SO KILLER. Wish I could figure it out.

Awesome approach, I have tried it and it works really nice when one feels stuck on using the same kind of riffs. It also helps to get out of our comfort zone and experiment with other rhythmic possibilities. I used this approach on my upcoming album and it worked wonders. As a solo artist i start with whatever instrument i have the idea for first. I might have a drum beat in my head i record that first. Sometimes i get an idea for a bass line so i start with that. Same with guitar. Just depends on how you want to work with it. Most of the time it works out well.

1:45-2:10 I loved the dissonance into Jazx chords. Something I've strived to do and Jinjer actually succeeded at. I'd love to hear more of that, hell I'd love to create more of that but I struggle with getting the dissonance to come through.
