Improve your game!
This channel is dedicated to all the gold seeking Pickleballers out there who dink responsibly and stay out of the kitchen. We have all levels come through the channel, but we concentrate on the 4.0, 4.5 and up to 5.5 with the pros.
I started this channel quite by accident, I was recording my games to do film study and get better. I did not have time or money for lessons from pro pickleball coach, so I started watching all my screwups. People that I was playing with started to ask if they could watch too and I said sure. That helped all of us a lot to improve our game, strategy, mental toughness, and techniques. Now we have new pickleball videos published several times a week. We occasionally have pro pickleball players on the channel. Mostly its non pro pickleball players on their quest to 5.0 pickleball. We have all levels come through the channel, but we concentrate on the 4.0 pickleball, 4.5 pickleball and up to 5.5 pickleball with the pros.

I've read the comments. I think people should videotape themselves play before criticizing others. Pickleball in general is super exciting to us players, but if someone else were to watch, and even the players themselves were to watch a video of themselves, it looks much less impressive. Kudos to the players!

This is spot on. Talked to so many players.. from 20 somethings on up who think from watching it it looks easy, lame, etc. But then you play it and its fun and good exercise. It gives some of us older folks something fun to do not quite on the full tennis court scale but bigger than ping pong and not overly physical.

I'm thinking too much age spread as Seniors being lumped as 50+. No way can my reflexes be as fast at 75 as they were when I was 50. I realize not everyone ages the same but stamina would decline some as well.
@ThePickleballPirates
@ThePickleballPirates 9 месяцев назад
Agree. Although there are super seniors at 60+. At 70+ there are usually not enough players for normal size bracket.

I played in several tournaments down from my 75 age group in 60+ matches at 3.0 and 3.5 skill levels. If you are a legit 3.5 doubles or mixed doubles player you should have no trouble competing against younger players at the same skill level.
@RobertMacdonald-t3r
@RobertMacdonald-t3r 8 месяцев назад
You also need to remember in tournaments play one of the partners may be a 3.5 and the other a 3.0. Sometimes a good 3.0 team may play up in the tournament if permitted to do so.

This match was played at Pictona in Holly Hill, FL just outside Daytona Beach. It hosts many large tournaments each year. Last Oct my partner and I won the Silver Medal in the 3.5 65s at Pictona. I can say that we would easily beat either of these 3.5 teams who are playing in the 50s age group.

Hmm... at 24:18 the guy on the near end serves from the right (even) side and they win the point. Then he serves from the left (odd side) as he should. His foot is not on the line, he serves underhand, everything appears totally legal, then the ref calls a fault on him. Why? Then his partner serves from the right side and is not called, so it does not appear to have been a wrong side fault. What happened? (Never mind, he started the serve before the ref finished calling the score.)
@shawnmcclelland8928
@shawnmcclelland8928 11 дней назад
Was it that, or it looked like he tossed the ball up a little on his serve, it's hard not to toss it at all, but he did a pretty good toss, no?
@pickleballer1729
@pickleballer1729 10 дней назад
@@shawnmcclelland8928 I saw the problem; he started his serve before the ref finished calling the score. As for your point: Many Pickleball players are under the impression that you cannot toss the ball up on a volley serve. That is NOT TRUE. The PPA experimented for one or two tournaments with that rule, and quickly discarded it as impractical to enforce. Someone tried to call me on that the other day (for about the tenth time) and I had to explain it to him. I now have a copy of the service rules on my phone for just that reason. There is a rule that reads "4.A.8.b. When releasing the ball, the ball shall not be propelled in any direction or in any manner prior to striking the ball to make the serve. " but that is under the subsection 4.A.8 which pertains to the drop serve _only_ . There is nothing about that in the volley serve section, although it does say that you may not impart spin to the ball on your release.

Most tournaments break out players into 5 year age bands, as long as they have enough in an age band to do so, so 50-54,55-59,60-64,65-69,70-74,etc. We always do that for the Senior Olympics.

The pickleball does not bounce to high, so from the kitchen if you hit the ball hard enough, it will fly out. If you hit it not hard enough, it will be smashed by opponent, that's how you are forced to dink.

Player ratings vary all over the spectrum. What some thinks is a 3.5 in one place is probably a 3.0 or 2.5 in another, or maybe even 4.0 at another place. Ratings appear to be self determined and extremely flexible.
@ThePickleballPirates
@ThePickleballPirates 2 года назад
Who thinks what is not that important, as rating is a calculated value based on your tournaments results. It varies a bit from place to place as people do not travel too far to participate, but not as much as you portray.

you just have a wrong image of 3.5 in your head. This is a good tournament match of 3.5s playing in 3.5 bracket. Also maybe you have not seen 3.5s on video before and most likely never seen yourself on video.
@hotprop92
@hotprop92 10 месяцев назад
I agree with your 3.0. Although they're pretty consistent with their third shot drops, the serves and returns are deep but little patience to dink, right into banging, player positioning, not protecting the middle and shot selection, pop-ups and unforced errors.
@RobertMacdonald-t3r
@RobertMacdonald-t3r 8 месяцев назад
A 3.49 rated player can easily play up against a 3.50-3.60 player without too much trouble. There is not that much difference between high 3.0 versus low 3.5. In tournaments because of the way rating systems are calculated some good 3.5 players are rated below this level and are sometimes forced to have to play down to 3.0. In this match you could say that there is a very fine line as to whether these two teams are at 3.5 or 3.0 level.

Thats exactly what you would expect from 3.5 seniors. These are people that have athletic ability and likely taken up PB and not tennis players (except maybe the lefty) who were 4.0+ in their youth. In the latter, you would see much more fluid movement. Glad they are having a great time and competing, at any level!
