Dan! Thank you for all of your content. I'm 40, used to skate all the time, but got away from trick skating when I had a massive soft tissue injury in both of my ankles. Your videos have reignited the fire in me, and I'm purchasing my first new board in over a decade this week. I'm pretty sold on the new Andy Anderson, and I'm hella nervous about even trying to Ollie, but I can't sit still after watching you all shred. Hearts and farts from NC, brother.

I’m just glad there is variety. There was over a decade of only popsicle boards that got slightly larger over that period. One great thing about skateboarding today is the variety of sizes and shapes. It also seems like everyone is more accepting of a broader trick selection.

word. grew up skating in the early 00s and there was only 1 skate style and board shape and anyone doing anything differently was an outcast. it's so nice to see where skating has gone now. you have kids doing crazy tony hawk pro skater style tricks that no one thought possible and in parallel you got people just doing a slappy jam and shit and both are respected and appreciated equally! im very glad to see it.

Im old enough to have ridden 10" fish shaped boards in the 80s and when the first board with a 7" nose came out it felt totally natural. Then the early 90s came and football shaped boards going into sub-8" widths became the norm, and once again we adapted, even on vert. The worst part (about skating vert) was that wheels went from 66mm to 38mm in about 4 years. Then in 2000 i found out about Flip having a special mold to make 8" plus decks for their team. Now everyone is on 8"+ decks. Trends have always been taken to the goofiest looking extremes and are a necessary part of evolving and learning. Embrace them.

I grew up on the fatty decks, Mike McGills, Jeff Kendall, Double Vision etc... Gullwing trucks, Bridge Bolts, Ratbones etc etc.. When the 90s came around and all the decks went 2x4, the biggest decks we could find were made by Blind at 8.5 and we'd slap on some Indy Trucks that were way shorter, made for a super skinny deck and that worked out great for flip tricks etc etc... These days, when they started reproducing the old school decks but made with new school wood, we started skating them again.. and all of us pushing 50 and some of us being 50 are digging it... especially me.. I lost my leg so I'm skating with a prosthetic bit all I can do are Bonelesses, hand plants etc, the tricks I started out doing.. Mike Vallely type stuff..... The smaller wheel base helps out a lot, it helped back in the day and it helps now... We also didn't have skate parks... you all are welcome for that hahaha..... Big deck, smaller wheel base.. hard flips get easier.. you can get more spins on a kick flip... Also try bigger wheels or a riser.. that might help a little, everyone is different but that's what worked for me...

Was really contemplating picking up one of those wide boys too, but 10.5 over the trucks sounded kinda wild even with 215s. Shoutout heroin and swampy so rad. Bring back the questions 10” popsicle at some point Fos!!!

I'm exclusively a transition skater and the 15" WB of Bucky's Tortoise and 15.25" of Cab's 216 flight decks are perfect for me, any shorter doesnt feel like such a solid stance in pools and on vert and there's obviously the reason why Steve Caballero and Bucky Lasek have chosen them that way as they are predominantly vert skaters, but for flip / street tricks shorter WB makes way more sense. it does amaze me how many people have no idea about WB even people who work in sakte shops and they look at you kinda crazy when you ask what the WB of a deck is, it is indeed such an important factor.

I started skating like most people of the era using 7.75 boards and i pretty much stuck with that until i took a break from skating at like 25-26.... Recently i came back to skating at 32 and started with an 8.25 and lemme tell u, its so much harder to flip that board around lmao ...its like i have a boat under my feet Ive gotten more used to it over the past couple months but i think im going back 7.75 or 8 at most .... Ill use this for transition as it definitely seems better there .. Its just funny to me how dudes are riding these huge boards and here i am thinking an 8.25 is too big lol.... It all comes down to what u grew up skating on .....im used to a board thats light and u flicks super fast...back in 90s and early 2000s we were throwing out double flip variations and theres no way i could do that with todays shapes ....... Its a fine balance between having the control of a bigger board and flick of a smaller board....i think 8.25 is the max for me .... I would never even attempt to try and 8.5 or higher...my old man ankles cant take it
