I read a book on quitting alcohol. It said to meditate on how alcohol makes you feel the next day. When you mentally connect alcohol with that kinda sick feeling., it becomes easier to quit. After I quit alcohol, I noticed becoming quicker and smarter. I literally move faster.

Almost 4 years without a drink and while I thankfully wasn't at rock bottom, it simply wasn't serving me (physically, mentally, and financially). It was robbing me of time, money, health, energy, and happiness. Greatest decision I ever made - I eventually lost stubborn belly fat simply from quitting (and changing nothing else), and gained mental clarity, self-discipline, and anxiety management skills I never had before.

At the beginning of 2023. I realized i was mindlessly drinking at the end of my day as a habit. So I challenged myself to 26 drinks in 2023. One every other week. And it made me appreciate my decision to have a nice cocktail. No more random beers at the EOD. By the end of the year I just stopped drinking. It allowed me to appreciate my drinks more. And then completely see the uselessness of it.

I’m glad this conversation is starting to become more prevalent. I’ve drank my entire adult life and have always had a “high tolerance” so in many instances, I’ve drank a great deal. I’ve cut 99% of alcohol, basically only doing so on special occasions and I’ve been feeling so much better
@esotericsolitaire

Same here. I've cut way back, having been a light to moderate and sometimes heavy drinker since age 17. What's interesting is I've had maybe three memorable hangovers in 45 years. People could never understand how I could drink so much and look and feel great the next day. I've been believing for a while now that it has something to do with GABA reset. It's torturous to me to have all that brain activity, like the racing thoughts, and also the tense muscles. Deep massage and alcohol were the only things that helped with any of that, since I just could not relax without intervention (no interest in other drugs), and alcohol is readily accessible and fairly cheap. I'm working on the spiritual side of energy clearing and trying to channel those racing thoughts more positively. A clean diet is a good basis for spiritual work, along with any mindful supplement use. You have to be careful with those too. And movement does wonders!!

The 50-60 day mark where there is a noticeable change in mental sharpness, felt energy throughout the day, clarity in decision-making, etc is real. Happened for me and it was similar to an experience I had stopping alcohol years ago. Focus on that 60 day mark and keep in mind that change is on the way even if you're feeling a bit off at the moment. Once you get past that point, avoiding alcohol becomes second nature as you realize you can't possibly feel any better than you do sober and the drinkers you spend time with, you may end up feeling sorry for them. Alcohol-free is a true super power and a major competitive advantage.

I spoke with a cancer specialist who said it's a HUGE dirty secrret thag alcohol causes pancreatic cancer. Like 85% of pancreatic cancer patients are functional alcoholics. He said that the alcohol industry works very hard to suppress this information and they as an industry are not allowed to discuss how many cancers are caused by alcohol. It actually makes since because cancer loves sugar. Alcohol is the easiest and fastest form of sugar to process because the acid in it breaks down the cell barriers and it soaks right in.

The reason they used to call people ‘pickled’ is heavy drinkers’ cerebro-spinal fluid eventually turns ammonia-based. When drinkers cracked their skulls open during the inevitable horse accidents which occur from drinking and riding, bystanders noticed the same smell coming from their cracked-open heads as they smelled when grandma was making pickles. Didn’t take long to put two and two together.

I think we all will realize alcohol is bad as we get older. I’m in my early 20s and alcohol doesn’t feel like it affects my mood or energy levels the next day. But I have older friends that talk about how they can’t drink like how they use to anymore.
@PriusTurbo
@PriusTurbo 5 месяцев назад
I think the older people that say that about alcohol have slowly conditioned their brains and bodies to use alcohol in a different way. Casual drinks never had that impact on me even up to 40 but it's the heavier drinking and tendency to drink multiple days in a row and people get older that really take a toll. Alcohol has provided some experiences I never would have had otherwise but I don't need any more of them at this point. It all just becomes repetitive and it's possible to do all of the same nightlife activities without alcohol, it just takes some adjusting. Going out with drunk people while sober makes you feel like Neo in the matrix.

We need a cultural shift. Alcohol consumption is seen as classy and badass. All the movies have the protagonists downing hard liquor as part of their appeal. Watching John Wick, you see him in some badass fights and then downs some bourbon like a boss. In reality alcohol limits our peak physical and mental performance. Season three of Reacher should show him downing wheatgrass juice shots instead.

Most think that way but flip the thought process. Think of yourself as the leader not the follower. They want to be like you they just won't admit it. Most people when quitting try to make excuses, hide it, try to fit in etc. Conversely, I try to stand out more. Can't tell you the number of great conversations I have had that started out with You aren't drinking? I kid you not my weekends were non alcoholic as I needed to recover somehow. I did this for a full year and can tell you that at some point when I took a drink my brain chemistry would insta change. I was a heavy drinker for roughly 15 years (20’s-30’s.) There was rarely a day that passed that I didn’t get drunk. Eventually, I started having excruciating pain and swelling in my knees. The painful was so bad that I couldn’t walk! Come to find out, the pain was gout. Since I stopped drinking every day, the gout flare-up’s are few and far between. That being said, I still occasionally have a drink, but very rarely. Just knowing I could have a flare-up keeps me in check. How I didn’t experience any withdrawals when I quit drinking is beyond me. Thankfully I never need to quit alcohol because I’ve never come close to having a problem with it. I have tons of great Scotch but drink it only occasionally Same for beer, I’ll get a good buzz and then I’m good. I might drink 3-4 beers in a month. Sometimes none. Once in a while 8-10. Sucks some people can’t do that

I told my wife several years ago that when I first drank a couple beers at about age 17 (late bloomer LOL) I said to myself, " this is probably what normal people feel like all the time". Recently, before he passed away I heard Mathew Perry say the same thing. I'm 67 now and I still drink alcohol. I've always been health conscious at the same time and for decades I limit myself to 1 beer a day. Because of this feeling of "normalcy" I get from alcohol it's only by the grace of God I was able to limit my intake. This gentleman makes so much sense.

One of my Sergeants in the Army Reserve was a functional alcoholic. He's show up to drill drunk. We got deployed overseas and had to stay in a hotel overnight and he took a big chunk out of the hotel mini bar. When we had a problem with a vehicle and needed expertise he was our go to mechanic. He probably made it to retirement.

When my wife drinks 2-3 beers it’s like her memory shuts off. She may be sober-ish but she won’t remember a conversation from 15 min prior. It pisses me off. I try to tell her how bad it is but she denies it. She only drinks a couple times a week but it’s so irritating, I’m like if you choose to drink, I choose to go upstairs and watch tv alone.

Mine was a comment and not a question. You’re welcome to reply as many times as you like. Just understand I don’t want or care for your opinion. Especially when you come at me with “you’re the problem.” You’re making an ignorant assumption.

Well now! I knew this was happening to me! I quit 6 years ago and at that time I tried explaining to my counselor and psychiatrist that alcohol gave me energy! I knew it wasn’t normal and over the years it took more and more alcohol to keep my motor running. So I’m not crazy after all.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 01:19 🧠 *Alcohol, when metabolized, produces acetate which can fuel brain cells, potentially leading to feelings of alertness and well-being, especially in individuals with insulin resistance.* 03:16 🧪 *Alcohol is converted into acetaldehyde, a toxic compound harmful to mitochondria and cells, contributing to cellular damage and potential organ failure.* 05:33 📉 *Chronic alcohol consumption can exacerbate metabolic dysfunction, creating a cycle where alcohol is used as a coping mechanism despite causing more harm over time.* 06:16 🍺 *Liver and brain are the organs most affected by alcohol consumption, leading to various levels of cellular and metabolic deterioration.* 07:12 🏃‍♂️ *Alcohol consumption, particularly among athletes, can significantly impact metabolic function and performance, highlighting the importance of considering alcohol's effects on overall health and athletic achievement.* Made with HARPA AI

It’s kinda like the whole metabolic health issue that people continue to complicate beyond the very simple concept of DIET AND EXERCISE (it really is that simple). But with alcohol, we simply need to abstain completely if metabolic health is the goal.

I didn't drink until I was 35, and am quitting again at 37. It was fun at first, but it became a problem which is why I avoided it for so long. It is a waste of money and does no good. I've had issues gaining weight my whole life but in less than two years of drinking I've added 15lbs and it's all on my face and stomach. I miss being able to see my abs

To much water will kill a person. The human body reacts positively to stresses but if overworked it has a negative affect. Some people are prone to addiction should refrain from alcohol, high-calorie foods, tobacco, extra or whatever they are addicted to.

Great info. I've binged drunk for around last 10 years, except for @3 years sober period. Might go month or more between, 4-6 day drunk, don't eat. Otherwise, meticulous ketovore, usually less than 10g net, often 0, train hard rigorous 3+hrs/6days/wk except during drunk and @3-4 day recovery. Maybe this will induce me to stop. Perfectly healthy, haven't been to a doctor for anything except injuries, physicals 45+ years. Haven't been sick since I quit before smoking 31+ years ago...
