This is why delidding a PS3 is super dangerous

You should never try delidding your PS3 without any practice or prior experience. Because it is a super dangerous process and any mistake you make during the process could easily destroy your PS3.

Tip... it can be cut off safely with TOOTH FOSS & isopropanal, takes ages but no chance of scratching the chip. Just put the floss in a corner and start sawing!

Is it honestly still worth the effort fixing ps3's like this because the chance of the fix working for long time is pretty small even after all the hard work of fixing the console. If it's for practise I can understand completly these ps3's are helping my skills alot but they also make me tired xD

@@HD-wf3bp its a thing some of us like doing. Saving an old machine from the bin. For others its not worth it as there is many ways to play ps3, the old ps3 slim is not that expensive and emulation is good ... but there will never be anything like the fat 60gb ps3 with mulity man. 😃 they are worth the time to fix!

@@MK-qo1rz mmm maybe I should fix mine too but I dont have those ram chips and i feel like reflowing the gpu en cpu isn't going to work. It tried it once with my old ps3 and after that it went from a ylod to turning on but very very loud and it doesn't even play games. So i spend like 2 days doing this and it didn't really work. I was dissapointed xD but could it work good with new ram chips like people say? What do you think.

You don't need to heat this up to delid Cell. It doesn't have an effect on the silicon glue. You just need a thinner knife.

Steel wire is safer for CELL-BE than any method you use with physical force because it does not apply any pressure on the IC interposer.

Hello there! I hope you're doing great and having a good day. So I'm planning to use a dissolver and tooth floss to remove the cpu ihs in my ps3 super slim instead of heating up and using blades or any kind of other metal tools. What do you think? Thanks in advance.
@0852657luis
@0852657luis 2 года назад
Its possible, (ive done it before) but it takes a long time and if the adhesive isnt wet enough it could cause scratches to the cpu (depending on how deep) could damage the traces. But its probably the safest way to do it. But only on the phats and some of the early slims because on the newer ones they have added a spacer between the cpu and ihs making it more difficult and dangerous to delid. Just don't pull up on the cpu while doing it. I've had to get my checha reballed because i cracked the solder balls underneath the cpu.
@jamespatrick686
@jamespatrick686 2 года назад
@@0852657luis could you please explain more why the adhesive has to be wet enough? I didn't understand that part.
@0852657luis
@0852657luis 2 года назад
@@jamespatrick686 because if you're going to do it dry the chances you are gonna damage it get higher. The adhesive will stick to the floss and bring abrasive to the cpu traces that are underneath. A solvent plus heat will really help things to soften it up a little bit but obviously not at the same time. Just being sure to use new floss whenever the adhesive starts to stick to the floss. Better safe than sorry plus ou can get a muilpack from the dollar store so you can have plenty to do it.
@jamespatrick686
@jamespatrick686 2 года назад
@@0852657luis okay okay i fully got you now, just one more question and i'll stop bothering you. So according to you is the dental floss way still safer than the method shown in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b-Jviv0GmvQ.html
@0852657luis
@0852657luis 2 года назад
@@jamespatrick686 like I said if it's got that black spacer then you won't be able to do it with floss and will be required to get this tool (if you can). also another thing if you do get this tool and are able to do this successfully if it doesn't pop up easily, then you have one that has adhesive or solder on the cpu die and will probably damaged it if you try to remove it. At that point you will need to desolder the cpu from the board and try to heat up the solder or adhesive in order for it to break loose.

If your PS3 model is CECHA, there is circuit diagram for it already. You can check the diagram to see if you have missing caps. I am not sure how to test the voltage to GPU. I hope someone here would tell us how to it too.

@hardwarerepair200 Год назад
If your PS3 temperature is okay, then you don't need to delid at the moment. But the thermal paste below the IHS will eventually go dry (maybe in the next 5 or 10 years) and you will need to delid it. I was also very uncomfortable at the very beginning. What I did is to to buy a few broken PS3 for me to practice on. They just cost you around 10-20USD each, so you might want to buy a few to practice too. Mind you, different PS3 models might have different motherboard designs and different glue strength for the RSX and CELL. You better buy the PS3 that has the same motherboard as yours. You can check which PS3 has which motherboard here: www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models#PS3_Fat_.28Alpha_series.29 Feel free to ask more questions!

@@ryanearl8034 When putting it back, we do not need to put thermal adhesive. The heat sink itself is tight enough to make everything staying in place. If you like you can put a bit of normal thermal grease to the places where the adhesive were instead, it also works. According to my understanding, the thermal adhesive is only useful in the production line to make sure the IHS always stays with the chip.

you'll replace the ps3 with another that will have the exact same issue at one point? Do you not have common sense? You can get consoles from the 80s, 90s and 00s working without any major issues, meanwhile these craps break down after a few years with nearly impossible fixing for the common user.
