Ben... at the initial part of the video, that pavement next to the river, it's not quite a walking pavement. That's the river bank to sustain overflowing water when it rains heavily. How did you get there in the first place. Lol!! Yes you're right. Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia in general is not quite walkable. Maybe in one or a couple of decades, we'll do it right.

Welcome and enjoy your days in KL. Beware of these two places, where tourist were usually ripped off: 1. Petaling Street (Chinatown) - known for merchandise scammer. The guy just offered you RM1000 watches while the real price never exceed RM100. So don't buy anything here except food. 2. Jalan Alor - known as food scammer. Here you can find local delicacies at 4 or 5 times more expensive!

The fish and chicken curries are really good. I definitely prefer the Malay ones over the Indian style, since I have stomach issues it’s much less harsh for me. I think the Indian versions often use yogurt, or more tomato, or a combination of things that really bothers my body. The thin curries are what I look for now, not too thick of a base/curry.

I should give you walking suggestions. I've stayed in many neighborhoods and walk about 6 to 10 miles a day. From Sentral walk to Bangsar. Expat neighborhood. Notice the bars in a Muslim nation. Then go to Mid valley mall. From where you were in Chinatown, go to where the city was founded where the two rivers meet. Then to Merdeka sq. Up through the Muslim neighborhood to SOGO dept store. Awesome Vietnamese coffee place Khee Nguyen on 7th. But the one I like has sweetened condensed milk. Continue toward Chow Kit wet market. Then into Kampung Baru. Then over the Saloma bridge and into the Petronas twin towers. Nice mall and park behind the towers. Another day head toward Jalan Ampang and visit the American Embassy. Then head down jalan U Thant and Ampang Hilir. You'll pass a ton of embassies. Embassy row.

I walked into a mall to cool down and get a drink (important to hydrate) and the lady behind the counter took one look at me and said, "it's hot outside."🤣 I now wear moisture wicking shirts. The Nu mall at KL Sentral has all these stores. BO (not a good acronym) is on Bukit Bintang between Isetan and UniQlo (two down escalators. They don't want you to exit). Most malay dishes are not sweet its savory and spicy, there are only a few on the sweet side but not what westerners call sweet. They all have varying degrees of sugar to balance the flavors not to sweeten it. The local drinks tho now they are usually heavily sweetened and the local desserts are not sweet like western cakes , maybe 2/3rd less sugar.

@@benfishermin it's okay, as long as you're not allergic to Peanuts or Shellfish lol. If you are concerned about sugar levels I get it, just avoid the drinks or Remember the work "Kosong" which means zero added sugar in Malay. For Food Malaysia is not all Muslim Friendly dishes yeah we have Chinese food (pork curry noodle soup a must try )too as well other culture food for much more affordability and yummy. This is how I think when Malaysian food is yummy is not just Malaysia culture food but everything else like Japanese, Korean, Thai, heck some western dishes are good too ( Japanese and most Chinese food is safest no sugar added in cooking along with curry dishes from Indian/ Malay, BUT Thai dishes might have sugar added in it since traditionally Sugar is a condiment for them to eat with but Malaysia version might just add in some of the dishes)

Malayan is name for Penisula Malaysia (West Malaysia) in English. In Malay language, it's Tanah Melayu (Melayu = Malay, Tanah = Land, so the direct translation is Malay Land). 'Malaya' was predominantly used before the formation of Malaysia in 1963. However, those from East Malaysia in Borneo, still use 'Malaya' to refer to the Peninsula. And, flora and fauna species in Peninsula still refered to as 'Malayan' species such as Malayan Tiger, Malayan Sunbear, Malayan Peacock, etc. The name for Malaysia actually also mean 'Land of the Malays' (Malays = plural for Malay, -ia = suffix from Old Latin meaning Land).

Malaysian is to be a citizen of Malaysia. Malaya is the old name for the peninsular which is between Thailand and Singapore (Malaysia also includes two states on the island of Borneo). Malay is the ethnicity of the majority (60+%) of Malaysians, the others including Chinese and Indian plus a smattering of "other". @gaelkamil I understand but it is futile to compare in my opinion. Even the people and culture are different. Maybe infrastructure can be similar. But weather is also different too. Malaysia is nearer to equator. Language is different, religions are more varied in malaysia eg taoism, sikh religion, Islam, Chinese Buddhism, Hindus (not balinese but india hinduism), Christians eg Anglicans, catholics. So if I travel, I won't compare. If it is the same, earth is a boring place then.

Welcome to Malaysia. I advice all foreigners to come with an open mind because Malaysia is nothing like its neighbours ao please don't compare us with others. FYI, in Malaysia, all food vendors are required to take typhoid vaccination before they can do business. Go to the ramadan bazaar you'd be spoilt for choice. Type ramadan bazaar in KL and you will know where to go.

Mine was $30 - $40 for the quality Rolex in Thailand. They are all made in China and come in large box fulls. Go back and stick to $30. Settle on $35. You may be able to go as low as $20, but it's not worth the hour you'll spend to get there.😂 I know you're not there anymore, but you are close to Merdeka square. Look for the tall flagpole. Malaysia being a multicultural country (as opposed to homogeneous country like your beloved Colombia of Asia) is a testament itself of how relaxed and tolerant we actually are, we don't need sex tourists approval especially when they come from countries that don't even know what is a woman.

Actually most people here in Malaysia speak highly of Thailand and Thai people too. But a few in the comments like this guy seem to have trouble accepting the way they do things over there, thinking they are somehow better, maybe due to religion or parents with a broken belief system as well.

This video is my first impressions of the country. I didn’t even say I thought Thailand was better in any way. I live there and so that’s why I talk about it. I notice a few people here such as yourself (not most people) project their racism toward places like Thailand. It’s fine if you don’t like the place, and it’s good to be proud of your country. But if it bothers you when someone says there are similarities between the countries, or compares Malaysia to where they live, you are simply prejudice. Both countries have great and unique things to offer, one is not better than the other. If you truly think you’re better than someone because of your country or race you need to seek therapy my friend.
