People are missing the main point of the e ray. It’s nothing to do with driving in the rain or snow. It’s the fact that you get instant torque and instant consistent grip, the extra torque in the e ray is what will make it more entertaining to drive than the z06. I have both cars coming through Macmulkin. But I have a feeling I’ll enjoy the e ray more. The other part that people missed is that even weight distribution on the e ray. That actually makes the car more entertaining to drive through the corners. My c8 stingray felt too numb in the front, and I’m assuming it’s because it’s rear heavy. Because my c7 z06 gave more feed back to what the fronts are doing in corners. A well balanced car gives amazing feedback to the driver.

The majority of all sports car owners only use their cars for GT purpose, and I predict the ERAY will be the ultimate GT car in the world regardless of cost. That includes Ferrari 296 folks. The chassis from the Stingray on upward is unbelievable, and can EASILY tuned for more track performance. The Z06 is something for extremist in my opinion.

Yes. Same as the Stingray but with silent (while driving with v8 running) electric motors. Sounds good but needs an aftermarket exhaust.

This is Michael. I disagree but I appreciate that your view was objectively stated. Bottom line is it's not a better car except in one way and that is the sound, and that is subjective. There's no other advantage of the Z06, but the eray has four-wheel drive, instant torque, carbon ceremic brakes, and is a better Grand Touring machine. So feature for feature the ERay is better. But keep in mind these cars are brothers, not enemies

I was 100% on board for the E-Ray until I drove the Z06. But just because I switched doesn’t mean I dislike the E-Ray. I still like the Stingray too. This video was just based on my take, for me and my personal opinions. Like my friend Rob says, “there’s a butt for every seat.” I know some people prefer C7, C6, C5 etc. And I respect that. Keep in mind, I love Corvette. Every generation and every model. I actually would love to pick up a C3 at some point. And Michael, thank you for both watching and for your comment. I love to hear everyone’s perspective. 🙏

I thought the engineer presentation at Carlisle mentioned when asked about the ZER performance package on the Eray, that the suspension did not need to differ from the Z06 Tuning as both worked so well at that setting. I assumed by that, that they were tuned the same. I'm basing my decision to get an Eray on the 80:20 rule. 80% of the time I get in it will be 0 to 60 in 2.5. It is a performance beast 80% and an all wheel drive daily driver 20% of the time. And when the reviewer constraints are dropped in a couple weeks, um, well........

Everyone has their own beliefs as to which is better and everyone’s needs and desires are different. For me 2.5 -2.6 is indistinguishable. However the sound of the E-Ray and the Z06 will be 100 distinguishable. I live in Texas and we don’t often have a need for AWD. And if I do, I’m not driving the Vette. Now your needs and desires are obviously quite different from mine so yes, the E-Ray is the best option for you. And in my opinion, a great one. Regardless of which I think is better, they’re both awesome Vettes. I still think the Stingray is an awesome car and great bang for the buck.

I'm sure you and Justin already knew this but didn't recall it. When Justin told you to downshift, then downshift again, then paused to think to tell you to downshift one more time, you could have just held down the left paddle instead of all that. It would have automatically downshifted to the exact gear appropriate for revving right into the optimal part of the powerband.

I just can’t see myself buying a C8 Z06 I’m 55 years old & I’ve never been a fan of the crotch rocket, rice burners, or exotic race cars exhaust sounds, to me the new Z06 still sounds like all three combined. I’m planning to buy the E-Ray in a few years down the road, I think the best 2 sounding stock exhaust that I’ve owned over the years were on my 2004 Corvette convertible & 2018 Camaro ZL1 to each his own and congratulations that is a bad ass Z06 you got now go EAT a mustang for lunch!

My question is, if the Eray offered the same aerodynamic package as the z07 from the z06, would it do better than the z06 on the track?

No it wouldn't. Its isn't about net horsepower. Its about application of power. Do you know anybody with bi-polar disorder? That is the Eray. Its a marketing exercise for non-purists. A comparable horsepower car with the same chassis from a singular power source will always do better at the track, especially a lighter car like the Z06 compared to the Eray with its heavy battery, controller, motor and 3 dedicating cooling systems to all electric subsystems and a computer algorithm that struggles on how to combine power through torque vectoring to all 4 wheels. No matter how smart the engineers are that developed the Eray and make no mistake, they are capable because I know them, two completely different powerplants ergo a gas engine combined with electric motor can never provide the power 'modulation' of a single engine...in the case of a Z06, a very special, high reving gas engine with broader power curve which gives a driver more options at the track. But that isn't the knock on the Eray. The knock on the Eray is, you won't find anybody to fix one 7 years from now when the battery, battery BMS, the electric motor, or one or all of the 100 onboard computers fail. Biggest knock on the Eray will be it long term reliability cost. If you are a Corvette flipper, won't matter in the least, but 10 years from now the Z06 will hold its value and this Corvette hybrid won't due to reasons mentioned. Likely a percentage will even have their electric drive disabled due to prohibitively high long term maintainance cost. 99% of those with an order in on a new Eray know nothing about them. This is the new Corvette demographic. Used to be Corvette owners actually understood the tech in their cars. That train has left the station. PS. When the Eray comes out, it will be run against the Z06 at the track. I know what both cars can do. The Z06 will beat it. But that isn't the reason to buy the Z06 which is the more expensive car. The hybrid Eray will be an awful Corvette to own long term if that is the objective. Out of all the new C8's by far the best Corvette to buy is a standard Stingray. What will be very interesting is how close a standard Stringray will run against an Eray at the track. Watch for it. Won't be enough difference to matter and the Stringray is the better car to own.

The E-Ray has the same body style as the Z06, so no difference there. The E-Ray is a little over 200 lbs heavier, so there's one drawback. The initial take off and acceleration from the E-Ray will be quicker, but the Z06 gearing will have it gaining and passing the E-Ray after the 1/4 mile The Z06 suspension is geared better for track and overall is the better choice! An E-Ray with low wing vs the Z07 package on a drag strip, will perform a little better and slightly longer than the 1/4 mile before the Z07 passes it. It would be great to see an E-Ray equipped with Cup2R tires against a Z06 or Z07 in real world situation! Bring on the RU-vidrs 😆 -Shane

@@lukewalker1051 I’m planning to keep my e ray for 2-3 years TOPS. I get rid of cars before the basic warranty expires. I highly doubt the base stingray will keep up on the track to the e ray. And I’m willing to make a bet on it. The e ray has too many advantages over the stingray. I do agree that it will have much more expensive long term cost but most modern corvette owners will not keep their corvettes long enough to go through it. I do agree that the e ray will depreciate, while the z06 may appreciate in value depending if this will be the last gas motor z06. The base c8 stingray handles so terribly bad! I hated the way my c8 stingray corners. It felt like such a downgrade compared to the cars I’ve previously owned. Even my gtr, that is heavier than a c8 z06, close to the e ray weight, handles better than a stingray.

@@Hangin_With_Shane the acceleration is really disappointing with the c8 z06, I thought it would have better gear ratio for acceleration but it’s the opposite, it’s geared for the track not for acceleration. There is a video of a c8 z06 vs a stock c7 z06 from a roll race, and they were neck to neck the whole time. The Z06 has much taller gears which is worse for acceleration, than the Eray, so acceleration wise the Eray is going to kick the z06 hard.

@@N0neofyourbusiness. I will somewhat disagree with you! The Z06 has been in a lot of drag race videos and does extremely well on the track and it's not even intended to be a drag race car! There's no way a C7 Z06 beats a C8 Z06, when the C8 Z06 hangs with the C7 ZR1, up to about 120mph before the ZR1s HP advantage kicks in!

From all the vids you guys had a great time. As I said in the live show the other day I was pulling Justin's leg about talking the guy out of an E-ray. I did list out some pros, but in the end everyone will have their own things they prioritize. For allot of people the sound is a huge part, but for me Im not much into the FPC sound. I like V8 and of course EV TQ and AWD. From the old documents GM had it doesn't look like the E-ray was suppose to be this powerful. I dont know if they upped it to charge more or what, but they placed a similar looking and spec car out there. How it achieves it is very different. It doesnt matter if people get the Z06 or E-ray because in a year we both will b wanting the Zora or zr1. Something about the mo powa always does it.

@@FrontSeatDriver I still think Z06 is better overall. It’s usually the best looking car and has more than enough power. ZR1 styling can be overkill and usually when it’s released people are looking towards the next generation car which kinda overshadows it. Z06 is the best IMO

They're both slower than the 911 turbo s . Chevy/ GM needs a leadership change for real. Then the ZR1 has been reported to be just an eray with the 5.5 liter flat plane crank hybrid. Stupid.

That may be true but base price for a Turbo S is $125k more than the Z06. I do agree, they need leadership change. Without question.

@FrontSeatDriver Porsche may cost more , but Chevy brands itself as the bargain supercar. It should at least compete as far as performance. It barely beats the Gt3rs in a straight line, but loses to it on a race course .

Car and Driver did the lightning lap at VIR. The Z06 had a better time than the GT4 RS and the Huracan Technica. Thats not too bad.

What was mentioned in this video is my main gripe against EVs. You're getting the thrust and rev from the engine. I've driven an EV and yes the sudden acceleration will definitely get your attention........but then you get used to it and it's another boring car. But EVs will eventually take over. That's going to be some sad driving.

Give it 20 years, and combustion engine vehicles will be useless on the track outside of none street legal race cars. I hope hydrogen ICE vehicles become more common. With that said, locomotives are electric vehicles and are far from feminine.
