I’ve started somewhat hitting my irons like this after playing for 10 years. It’s “feels” so weird, but hitting down on the ball and not picking it is unnatural for most. Probably should’ve got lesson years ago but it is what it is. Seeing that ball fly straight is an amazing feeling

Thanks Eric, every once in a while I just revisit this short tip. It's really awesome. It is not easy to do, no. I'm not there. But it is part of what good golf at a lower handicap, IMO, than a 5 really begins. Notice that 'Lag' is part and parcel of this. Without the lag, you can't pull up and left because you'd hook or slice the krap out of it.

Good advice. Only caution to beginners though Is be careful when first doing this. It isn’t wrong or anything, but if you’re not aware of it, can and will influence head movement, or cause you to “dip” head, shoulders, knees even, when trying to strike down, or basically “trap” the ball more at impact. This will, if used correctly, help your trajectory, distance, control, feel, etc. You’ll notice when he hits the shot, head movement is minimal (especially vertically, if head is moving body is too).

I've hit some of my best wedge shots where it literally felt like my hands were 6-12 inches infront of my club face/ball at impact. Also felt like my hands were about 2 feet off the ground which is an exaggeration but if your not used to doing this thats what its going to feel like. So for me it always feels like im really low and forward with my hands. You'll hit it so pure you'll barely feel contact. 🏌😎 I totally agree with what he's saying.

I am getting conflicting info about this. Other YT golf instructional vids say to keep your head fixed and not to "bobble" up or down. You want you head in a fixed position as you follow through the shot. But in thus video you can see as he moves his shoulder, his head and his body move up and down as he follows through the shot. So I am confused. Wouldn't this technique make me duff/hit ground first before ball contact?

Listen lads, we're not PGA pros here, most of us don't have the time or the funds to get to that level. If you want consistent irons as quickly and efficiently as possible it's very simple. 1. Focus on keep arms straight ( trail arm will hinge during back swing but the idea is to have the mindset of keeping arms straight. 2. Keep head down the entire time til contact is established. 3. Slight lead knee hinge during back swing and extension through impact. Nothing but crispy ball strikes every time.

People are upset about this not being for beginners, but it is for all players. The point of the video is to start the shoulder down to increase left side bend/tilt. The rest takes of care of itself. This will allow for solid contact. But the only thing missing that could go wrong is if the player is not matching it with a shallowing move. Shallow plane with a steeper AOA ideally. If you don’t match the arms, then you need to learn that part too.

Roddy What you need to do is feel like like your hips don't move at all when you start your downswing. This was a training drill Tiger used in his early years because he also would get out in front of the ball with his lower body so he would actually stop at the top of the swing, then start the downswing while practicing. In his words he said "you can't cheat when you do this". That worked for him.. give it a try it might work for you! 😎

NO. You pivot around your spine as if it extends like a pole into the ground behind you. Dipping your shoulder is the wrong mental image and terribly inconsistent. Post up on your left leg to set your "spine pole", then rotate on that like you're winding a spring in your core. Your right leg will hold that spring tension. At the top of your backswing, use your left hip to initiate release of your core spring. Because everything is in reverse, your downswing sequence goes: Hips, core, shoulders, arms, hands, club shaft, club head, ball. (If your left wrist "breaks" at the top of your backswing, then a proper swing creates a slice. Practice keeping your right elbow on your core, hand stiffen your wrists)

Came to say exactly this. Overlay the example and the swing and it wouldn't match. I don't quite understand why he's saying the front shoulder should dip. Also the wrist angle at impact seems wrong. Am I wrong?

Geeze there sure is a lot of “constructive criticism” in this comment section 😅 Just wanted to say that this video had a part that actually gave me a bit of a light bulb moment reminding me of the ‘feel’ of having a shallow angle of attack to compress my irons better. Appreciate it! 🙏🏼

@@joshlittlejohn5163 when you deloft and pinch the ball against the turf. The grooves and friction grab the ball and impart the backspin that makes the ball go up. In order for the ball to go up you hit down on it

This is not what any good golfer looks like at the moment of impact. Doing that you won't get the ball in the air. It's just a feeling. Watch slow motion swings for better visual in my opinion
