THIS is why you are STRESSED + BURNED OUT as a Homemaker! (and what to do about it!) 

I just had my seventh baby in December and then at the end of January received two emergency family fosters 😅. Honestly I needed this, I am drowning in home tasks right now, we also homeschool and all these kiddos are ages 3 months to 11years old 😬. Honestly people pray for me! 😂 now to try to tackle my one thing at a time today…. Starting with sweeping up Easter wrappers and a thousand toys…

Honestly stay at home mommas do not get enough appreciation! I have never felt more emotionally drained, or burnt out in my life lol! Even when I worked 50/60 hours a week with special needs children. Being a stay at home mom 24/7 is hard work! (I do have a very tough baby with complications so that’s made the experience harder, but still!) Thankyou for this video!

Realistically, as a mother, homeschooling, along with other responsibilities, it’s nearly impossible to not be in one of these multitasking categories. Many of us no longer have “the village”, and so all of the responsibilities land on us, solely. Especially in these times where financial needs are spread thin and many can’t simply hire something out. Or those of us whose spouse works 14+ hour days and can’t be available to step in and help on said tasks. Anticipating your input on the next video for how to manage! Thanks for sharing. 💕

I find i can “multitask” and check off things on my list SO easily like 3-4 days a month and it feels like nothing, but the rest of the time I can’t and I freak out and it makes me feel like I’m broken 90% of the time or I’m lazy. It’s so wild. Ovulation does weird things, man 😂

The best thing I did for myself was to shave down my monster to do list. Every day I only allow myself to make 3 or 4 things a priority. This is really hard for so-called “type A” personalities because we can get addicted to the feeling of extreme productivity and constantly putting out fires. But that’s not sustainable, at least not without a cost. Burnout is very real. Focusing on single tasks is really helping me find that sweet spot between productivity and overall mental peace.

Lol the pulling into the grocery store scenario and having no recollection of driving there is something I 100% identify with. That's me everyday.

I am a counselor and studies show that multitasking causes you to work all tasks at a 60 percent deficiency and is equivalent to working while smoking weed or driving drunk. It also increases your risks of the brain state, neurochemically, that leads to dementia. Try this-move noticeably slower and do one thing at a time with some calming background music and you will be much more efficient and calmer. We really must stop glamorizing multitasking and see it as a hindrance rather than a badge of honor.

"The Gift of a Happy Mother" by Rebecca Eanes is a great reminder of how we should stay present with our children and be happy as opposed to busy. Angela, you're great at reminding all of us to take it easy as well, and the statistics you shared about multitasking are truly a wake-up call. I'm slowly getting to a better more organized state of mind while I one by one organize my surroundings, and it's really helped to write and cross off things to get done because it holds me accountable and I don't feel like I haven't accomplished much. Now I can visually see all my little accomplishments that keep my home running smoothly. Thank you for always being there for us, and your sense of humor is awesome. You Rock!

I have become horrible with multitasking to the point of trying to watch and listen to two things at a time which is just stupid! I find that I hardly retain anything and have to rewatch or read because it’s just here and then gone. I appreciate this video so much. ❣️

I'm a homeschooling mother of three (10, 5 and 14 months) and I make all our food from scratch. I keep our home's things minimalist to make it easier to clean (Joshua Becker, the Minimalists, Dawn the Minimal Mom, Miss Minimalist). Everything has a place. I can do 1000 things poorly or five things really well. I eat the same thing for bkft (scrambled cheesy egg tacos) to reduce decision fatigue. I lay out my clothes the night before (thanks to FlyLady). I'm learning about Lazy Genius and Decide Once items or tasks (book: Lazy Genius). "Better is better" from Dana K White of A Slob Comes Clean. I know that everything we tackle in homeschool or every homemaker task I accomplish was already set out by the Lord and there's tremendous relief in that. ❤ Part of that is from the famous homeschool book "Teaching From Rest" by Sarah MacKenzie

I just found your channel and I'm so glad! I work a full time job at home while also trying to keep up on household chores, jumping in to help with my toddler son, working on side projects and my own RU-vid channel... Burnout is my middle name. But this totally makes sense and explains why I've been struggling so much lately. I'm very rarely able to focus in on one task at a time.

I learned this a long time ago when we would go to clean the kids room. they would look at it and be overwhelmed but I would break it up and say "lets get all the trash 1st just focus on trash, when your done come get me and we will go swing a few minutes" then it would be the dirty clothes into the laundry room, then the video games and the stuff that goes with them, so on so forth 1 at a time till it was sparkling!

Yes, you are correct, not great at multitasking. My children are grown. However, I figured that out many years ago. I focused on what was important and both if my children grew up great. Great video.

This is fascinating. I've been thinking for awhile that my phone was the culprit in why my memory is suffering and my anxiety is worse. It makes perfect sense. I usually try to find a podcast or video (Sorry, Angie!) to listen to while I'm doing things around the house. I find myself having to switch back and forth between that and everything my kids are trying to talk to me about. I really think i need to shut this all down for awhile and just out on some light music in the background!

So guilty of this ..I'm listening to this as I'm deep cleaning, my kids are asking for multiple things which distracts me from my current task and I end cleaning something else.. while other kids are very actively playing in my living room that I just made spotless. What about not accomplishing all the things you feel you should be able accomplish. That gives me enormous anxiety. Makes me so hard on myself.

How do you apply this to kids homeschooling? Made me think about ALL the subjects!! How can they really retain it all or be creative when there's just so much thrown at them

I suppose making sure your partner or husband is also participating to relieve some mental and physical load could help too. Statistically, women do carry so much more of the "homemaking" and metal load and it's a 24/7 job.

I have to keep reminding myself that some tasks just can’t be multi-tasked. Every time I try talking my kid through her math homework while cooking dinner, something gets burnt. 😭

I'm a tech product manager, aka context switching is part of the job. And homeschooling on top of it. Today I was running a meeting on camera while also keeping my finger on the page for my son to track while typing up his book report. Impacts on short term memory? Check. Autopilot on increasingly worrying quantities of things I probably should do not on auto pilot? Check. More nights of insomnia over thinking about all my to-dos? Check. Ah, I needed this, but now my anxiety over my self induced brain damage is flaring...

Context switching - is such a thing

We think multi tasking saves time- I screw stuff up all the time when I try to multi task. For example: Just yesterday, I was running into the grocery store for stuff, and my mind was elsewhere. I self-checked out, and left half of my groceries in the bag turner thingy. Got all the way home, and wondered where half of my crap was. Sigh. I need to be PRESENT and thinking about here and now.

This is great! I feel it's extra hard when you have an neurodivergent brain and you can't remember what the heck you were doing because we're interrupted every two seconds 😅. I'm looking forward to your next video!

Can you be in denial about multi tasking… cause I’m still thinking I can do it ALL lol (I’m a mom of 4 girls under the age 6, work full time in an office, Reno work - building a garage - plus I’m studying to get my real estate license exam 2 May 29th 😂).
