decided that i want to cast out much farther at my usual spot so i just bought a Okuma Tundra TU-150 3 piece 15' medium/heavy rod and put my diawa df100a(10,000 size) with 100lb braid on it. looking forward to catching some giant catfish.
Caught some pompano here in Corpus Christi.. first time catching them and seriously one the best tasting saltwater fish I’ve had except speckles trout and flounder..
Nice video! I saw a big rip a little past your last rod in the video. Looks like your were fishing past the sand bar. Do you ever fish right inside the rips or in the first trough for pomps?
He does have a good point and that is if your are stuck having to fish sandbars but have the capability where u can cast out past the bar than you are in water that is first dibs and the cut guys end up being second dibs.
get ready im heading to maderia beach soon , with all new gear including two 15ft rods and big penn reels too and aint been fishing in almost 20 years, so come watch me do my mess up's..lol it'll be fun
Great video, I heard that there's this guy out of Navarre that makes a synthetic scent bait, he has a lot great content, he's Awesome,,,,,, Stay Safe God Bless 🎣,,,,
You don't need a 12 ft pole to catch pompano matter of fact you can catch them with just about any pole I have caught loads of them with a 7ft light medium ugly stick 2 piece and a lot easier to carry
Thank you!! I’m only 5’8” and holding a 12ft rod is like trying to practice for a rope balancing act. I brought a catfish ugly stick 7” 2 piece and lost an African Pompano in the Dominican Republic against the rock edges. I always tell people when buying a surf rod keep in mind your height and strength abilities. I keep in mind 1st control, 2nd power, 3rd distance. You must have full and good control of your rod to generate power so you can cast the distance.
back in the 80's i carried two huge penn shark poles from way up north to panama city beach every year, we used whole banita fish and garbage bags as bobbers to carry our baits out a couple miles then gerk hard on them to break the small test line from hooked fish to the bag then the bait would fall to the bottom. and we really didnt care about the big garbage bag back then lol that was just old school shark fishing. with out a bail carrier boat , we did this on the county pier. back then..lol
Great video and good advice, Americans on saltwater don't know what you're missing out on with Euro style surf casters, relax on the beach, some sun and fishing what more can you ask for. When vacationing in Florida, I always bring the Euro style surf casting rod, like yours, 13.5 foot. Couple of local fisherman were asking me about tips on bait and gear because they were shocked at what can be caught from shore literally 5 minutes from the condos they lived in. I steered the gentleman in the right direction as far as weight, hook and how to keep the bait on the hook. they were even more surprised when I Said I'm from Canada and nowhere near saltwater and Im cursed because saltwater fishing is what I live for. First chance I Get is to fish saltwater.
