This was from December of 1954. Would be their last TV appearance together. Less than 3 years later, Oliver Hardy had a stroke and eventually died from complications. Best comedy duo ever, and there will never be another one like them. Timelessly funny.
I am 78 years old and although I’ve seen the boy’s movies many times over the years, I still laugh uproariously when watching them again. Their comedy is timeless and new generations of young people should be continually introduced to this greatest of all comedy teams. ❤
@@robertveith6383 Are you a retired English teacher with nothing better to do than to add quotation marks to a hastily written comment? Well, to paraphrase an old saying, “A troll by any other word is still a troll.”
The term G.O.A.T. is used a lot in 2023. Truly Stanley and Laurel are the GREATEST OF ALL TIME! God bless them for the laughter the brought to people young and old! R.I.P. Never Forgotten! We are still laughing!
@@rotunda57 Unfortunately not 😪 However much I would love to say Yes, just blessed with an amazing surname and excellent taste. Nearly called our son Oliver , although had he been a girl we were going to call her Laurel Anne just for laughs 😃
@@10Tuxedo - Yes, they were far more polite than happy. I love these guys. It seemed a rude and tiring interruption for these gentlemen. Not even the “Old friends” seemed welcome (in this situation) and, I wonder if they were really THAT CLOSE to begin with. Of course, none of this matters anymore …that whole world of Hollywood is long gone.
Nothing can make you laugh like these two. The best comedy duo 100 years later! When I was a kid and sick and off school, Laurel and Hardy used to be on BBC2 at lunch times and always made me feel better!
Two legends of cinema. I have watched each every film of theirs many many times. They made my childhood special, and now as well when I watch them. Just what a wonderful duo.
Every six months of so I come back and watch this. If you grew up watching Laurel and Hardy and loving them like I did this couldn't be any more touching. Seems like their sweet, funny characters on film were not at all too far off from their real personalities. At least, that's what we're left with from this and a few other late-era clips. And that's good enough.
I didn't laugh much as a child, apparently, but I all but cried with laughter every L&H movie I watched... one Christmas in England, late 1960's they played a L&H movie every morning over Christmas... the best Christmas I ever had!
I want to thank Laurel and Hardy for being such a big part of my life growing up and for all the wonderful memories. Forever in my heart. God bless 🙏❤️🕊️☘️
I always has and always will be a fan of Laurel and Hardy, Stan and Ollie thank you for all the laughs for all the years god bless you two and RIP now.
They made us happy for the few moments when we were innocent at a young age thinking that the life was easier than what really is, thank you from the bottom of our hearts Laurel and Hardy, may God bless you wherever you are now.
morcombe and wise ,reeves and Mortimer have nothing on these two... ant and dec are not this era's version of them either ...no other duo came close....
I remember my late father during parties. As soon as any music started, he'd be up doing the Commence to Dancin routine, very happy times. I'm 62 now, and Way Out West is still up there as one of the funniest films ever. The original and best.
My grandad showed me their films when I was young as soon as I watched I was hooked quite simply the greatest duo ever or ever will be !!thank you boys
They had a special affection for one another, they completed each other. Stan Laurel did not perform after Ollie's death, he was grief striken and the history remembers he continued to write sketches for Laurel and Hardy until his death, just as a token of love and respect for his lost friend. When he past away, his last words were:"I'd rather go skiing than do this".
52 here and like my Dad, I grew up Loving these two. My kids liked them when they were young and I will make sure my grandkids get the thrill of watching LnH also. I really enjoyed watching this.
When i was 11 I had my appendix removed. Spent 10 days in the hospital, in those days you had a big scar. I remember the nurse telling me off for watching Laurel and Hardy on the TV by my bed because laughing so much would pop my stitches.
“No one leaves you When you live in their heart and mind And no one dies They just move to the other side” (Song “Estonia” from Marillion) Laurel & Hardy never left us and, like many other people, I never left them.
As a child in the 70s when these two incredible men were on the tv I was absolutely glued to the tv as they brought so much joy into my life and now I’m in my mid 50’s and got box sets of them I still make a point to record any programs that appear on the tv. The were just brilliant and even though they are long gone they are still bringing laughter all these years later and still will continue to do so. The mould was definitely broken when they were made.
I love the fact that every Thanksgiving they play their movie “babes in toyland. Otherwise known as “march of the wooden soldiers”. love them 💜. And friends til the end. I read that when Oliver died Stan was inconsolable. 💜💜
Just in case anyone was wondering, Stan Laurel`s home town of Ulverston is now in Cumbria due to boundary changes in 1974. It is also twinned with Oliver Hardy`s birthplace of Harlem, Georgia.
They brought laughter and joy to so many hearts at the time and yet many many many more hearts as time went by.They always used to be shown during my childhood back in the 1970s!!! Hard to believe these 2 got together around a 100 years ago.A special duo whom no one can ever really re-master.God bless us all, every one of us 🙂❤️🙏🌎
Lol Oliver downed that drink before leaving! I'm 56 and was very fortunate to have been raised with all the classics! I think I was into these guys and Charlie Chaplin before I was the Stooges! Let me put it this Way. At 13 , I got a kiss on the cheek from Deborah Kerr!
Che coppia meravigliosa! Ore ed ore di risate serene e mai volgari: veramente due geni del cinema. Anche da "anziano" ogni volta che vedo un loro film lo faccio con piacere!
Fantastic I went back in time. A comedy duo that was broadcast in film and TV many years ago when I was a child. Hardy died in 1957 and Laurel in 1965 and I remember reading about Laurel's death in the papers. Thanks from Italy 🇮🇹
I used to watch this show with my grandfather back in Ecuador! Every time I see them bring me memories from my childhood with my grandfather! Now I’m 36 and I still see them.
Not a lot of kids remember the Old comic actors to day. but everyone knows who laurel & Hardy was. they are the "best" & always will be...🤣🤣 They've been gone such a long time now but still live on in our "memories" R.I.P BOY'S😢.
The fashions may change and the hairstyles may change but good comedy lasts forever! Over a hundred years since they started making films, they are still making people smile and laugh!
Laurel and Hardy were and will be the comedians of all times. Nobody can reach their standard. Many learned from them. Stanly was the master mind behind all the comedy pieces. What a genius. The life long mutual respect and love between is so amazing.
As a cumbrian Laurel and Hardy were part of my childhood growing up in the early 80s, just pure joy. By the way Ulverston is not where they had this on a map....they had it in Scotland 😂
Such kind hearted comics. I played one of their shows for my 6 year old granddaughter, Lyra. It was hilarious watching her watch them. She could not stop laughing and even began mimicing them. She kept saying, “Oh no! Here they go again.”
What a magnificent pair they were. So polite and courteous, unlike many famous stars of today. (The map showing Ulverston at 6min 20sec. is wrongly placed almost at Castle Douglas in Scotland.)
Very true Stan Laurel did stay in Glasgow Scotland in his teens and made ihis stage debut in Glasgow best wishes to Cumbria this man Stan Laurel is a legend and so is Oliver Hardy what a team
1934 The Live Ghost is one of the best. When the drunken sailor who fell in white paint and the two boys think he is a ghost that has returned to the ship and he says, "Wacha matter?" is tough to beat for the best scene of comedy ever.
For me, it’s the drunken scene in Blotto. Watching the people at the table behind looking so disapprovingly at their antics is just so funny. And when Ollie offers the singer a drink and he spits it out in disgust makes me laugh too!
Stan and Ollie's physical gags unfold with a degree of leisure or deliberateness that gives their audience time to appreciate what's happening and to foresee its inevitable outcome, or in some instances to be surprised by an unexpected intervention.
When our boys were young we played all of the films. They absolutely loved them! At five years of age my oldest did a great physical impersonation of Oliver. "The Brats" was their favorite film. Today they are both opera singers and will be performing in Germany this coming fall.
I'm so glad I was born a boomer. We have the best, from Bing Crosby to Springsteen to .... Everything! Seeing Looney Tunes, Mel Blanc, The Marx Brothers, Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, it was all reruns etc. But we were EXPOSED to it and it gave us the best of everything from the 1900s all the way to now, 2023. And it will go on forever!
