Had a chat with an ex uk cinema manager the Rank Organisation i think Olly and Stan attended Sons Of The Desert meetings one in Kingston Upon Hull uk, he said they where delightful people 🤗🤗 thanks for posting this
Stan and Olly were comic geniuses. There will never be another like them. No one could ever walk in their shoes like they did....those were the days for sure....
It's strange how I'm entertained more by something made half a century before I was born than I am with anything on TV now. They were the first and the best.
I’m 62 and hardly a week of my life has gone by without watching laurel and Hardy. Recently I found an episode I’ve never watched before them in the caravan
Love Love Love Stan and Ollie. Best comedy duo of all time. There will never be anyone like Stan and Ollie ever again. I still love watching their movies. I still laugh with their movies. Never gets old 💜💜
What a delight to watch ! THANKS so much for sharing with us ! I'm glad it's in English with Dutch subtitles instead of the other way around ! Ms Laurel was a lovely lady and she seems very intelligent, articulate, kind & sweet ! I read online that she passed away in 2017. May she rest in eternal bliss ! :-)
I love Laurel and Hardy. I will always have a soft spot for them in my heart. Not only because I enjoyed their movies, but I always think of my dad. He watched them with his dad when he was a kid. Just like how he introduced me to their films when I was a kid. I just watched the movie, Stan and Ollie. If it's true, then Stan especially was done a disservice. He wrote all of the scripts, produced them, and acted. It seems so unfair that he and Ollie or "Babe" didn't get paid for syndication. Maybe those were the days before actors received royalties for syndication. Still, what talented men they were. Ollie had such a beautiful voice and Stanley was such a comedic genius. I will always love them. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
...I also can't believe that Stan Laurel was listed in the phone book. He was so kind and down to earth that he would invite his fans up for a cup of tea. I wish that I had been alive back then. What an honor it would be to spend some time with Stan Laurel. Sadly, little known by today's generation. However, great comedy never goes out of style.
Stans Mother is buried about a mile from my house, South side of Glasgow Scotland. Just the other month I was standing at it while passing on a walk as the grave have been freshened up. Don’t know if Stan or any of his family ever visited his mothers gave but there it is.
Educated at Stonelaw Public School in Rutherglen, Scotland. One would never have thought of Stan Laurel being very much versed with the Glaswegian dialect!
His reference was to the film cutting to fit the time slot. Happens with every film. It used to happen during matinees too. A middle reel would be cut, no one noticed.
Stan must've been very upset with the TV in the 1960s; the movie "Pack up your Troubles" I saw many times then, the 3 Bears story the little girl was telling - it took over 50 years for me to finally see the complete, restored version. And "Blockheads" (1938), it took over 30 years for me to see the complete version.
they will always be timeless , their humour is innocent ,daft but just so addictive , they are from another era , they would be hollywood royalty in this day and age, their legacy will outlive many of the so called superstars of today
Stan is a Bishop Auckland lad. The house he lived in was on Princess Street, which has the blue plaque on the front door. Even his old school at Queens Way Bishop Auckland is still there, and it's just been renovated. The cinema his father managed is still there, and it's a museum now. And his statue stands on the corner of Newgate Street.
I knew Lois Laurel Brooks and her husband Rand Brooks. Rand Brooks opened and built up Professional Ambulance in Glendale in the 1960s. While working on the ambulance in the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area in the 70s, I responded to Lois Laurel's mother's cottage in Beverly Hills when her oxygen system quit working. Rand Brooks was a good guy who also played in the movie Gone With The Wind and also starred in the 1950s series Rin Tin Tin. I believe they had a son who we called Randy but I believe he was Rand Jr. If I remember right, Rand and Lois divorced in the early to mid 70s... Trivia I know but when I met Lois once at the Professional Ambulance office, you could see she was Stan Laurel's daughter. I knew Rand better but they were both good people in my opinion.
My favorite part of the interview was when Lois recalled how she was afraid of Oliver Hardy because she truly believed that he was really hurting her father. I also thought it was neat that somehow Stan figured it out and wrote a script where he got the upper hand! I'm glad that he was smart enough to help Lois stop being afraid of her "Uncle Babe"!
What a wonderful interview, they were comic genius and no one could come close to them in their day, there could never be another Laurel and Hardy, I wonder what Lois would have made of the movie portraying their story, sadly we will never know as she past in 2017 age 89, following a lengthy illness, reunited with her Dad 🌷❤️😘🌹🌸🌺
Sooo kool !! I LOVE Stan Laurel. Soft, gentle man with gentle unique humor! I still dance like him to make kids laugh by raising my foot backwards and tapping my shoe! ha!! He danced like that and I’ve adopted it!! 🤣🤣
It's very nteresting to here these reminiscences from Stan Laurels daughter. There is a very good film starring English comedian Steve Cooghan as Stan which show just how close Laurel and hardy really were. They had a beautiful relationship two very funny men united in love and respect. If you want to know more, I heartily recommend watching it.
I loved them as a kid. Now I live in a town in England where Stan spent a lot of his time and his dad built a theatre but it's long gone now. I never knew he was English!
I remember watching a live interview with Louis about twenty years back. Remember getting a signed photo of her (sat on horse with Stan next to her). It was at a Helpmates convention in Kent - UK. That get together also has guests like Ernie Wise who I met and sold some memorabilia to his wife. Good times - good memories.
I am old now but when I was little my grandfather who was very handsome could put on Stans long face and pretend to cry and scratch his head. He looked just like Stan . He kept me very entertained.
I have never met anyone that doesn't like Laurel and Hardy. As a kid I loved watching them as often as possible. My brothers and I would have a contest to see who could imitate Stan Laurel when he cried and pulled his hair up, etc.. It was always a lot of fun. Babes in Toyland used to be played every Thanksgiving and Christmas but it seems the last couple of years it's been hard to find, if it could be found on tv at all. We will never have any traditions in the US, the media and those controlling programming keep changing everything instead of giving us all something to share and enjoy in common.
You can pretty much find all of their stuff on RU-vid now, not sure if you knew that. I imported the 20 DVD box set from the UK 15 years ago only to find that they ended up releasing it in the US anyway a few years later. I have since converted the DVDs to computer video files and have also searched the internet to fill in anything else that is missing from that. I think I now have everything they did together that is still know to exist on my computer. Nice!
@@rick12373 Congratulations. You were very smart to do that. As we see today, the fascists, communists, etc. are removing anything that THEY don't think is fit for public consumption. Your collection may be quite valuable, both personally and literally. That was very smart of you, best of luck.
I saw them on TV as a little girl in the fifties. I loved them. About a rear ago I saw a clip of the famous piano scene with the trying to get it up lot of stairs, and then, of course, they ended up with the piano getting away from them and going all the way back downs the stairs and wrecked. Just brilliant.
Thank you for giving me the title of my favorite clip. Kind of you & I appreciate it. If it won an award I am not surprised one bit. IMHO it deserved an award.
My father had a film projector and many Laurel and Hardy movies. There was no sound though. He would cover the big picture window in our living room with a sheet and project L&H movies for all of the neighborhood kids to see. It sure made the hot summer nights a wonderful experience.
Lois was the ringer of her father Stan.and she was the Apple of his eye.hopefully shes united with him again Amen 🙏🙏🕊🕊🌹🌹🦋🦋Rest in peace to them amen godbless them
We watched the Laurel and Hardy films on TV in the 1950's in Ohio, they were great! I am sorry he divorced this woman's mother - I am sure divorce was much more prevalent in Hollywood than anywhere else.
Stan era o cérebro, e Oliver o coração da dupla. Juntos se completavam integralmente. Hoje são exemplos imortais !!! Saudades deles. * (*) Stan was the brain, and Oliver the heart of the pair. Together they were completely complete. Today they are immortal examples !!! Miss them.
