There's a quick and easy solution to this: Stop playing all "Games-as-a-service" games, and only play games that don't sell ingame items. Then the unwanted business model simply dies out.

Dude, this was a well worded and thorough thrashing of today's gaming world.

All of these reasons and more made me leave gaming two years or so ago and I have never be happier. I found replacing gaming with a creative skill was helpful. Treat the skill like a game and it made it way more enjoyable than any game could ever give me in the last 6 or so years

there's only one way to make this change - stop giving them your money!

Excellent video that nailed the topic perfectly. These are many of the reasons why I ignore modern games, the gaming industry has changed a lot, but not in a good way. Nothing, no company and no economic system can grow infinitely in a world with limited resources, and it's a terrible idea to force growth by squeezing every last cent out of customers with crappy decisions. At best I'll buy a good indie game now and then, but I'm personally done with AAA titles and big publishers.

There is some truth to the excuses that big corporate AAA developers give, but they are only half truths. The whole truths is these corporations need to cater to the stock holders and not just their consumers. Which means doing everything in the power to increase profit over the previous years profit to increase stock value. This is the primary motivation that push AAA developers to stagnate in game design and push anti consumer practices

The problem is the banking system in general. In order for a company to exist, they must take loans from a bank in order to operate. In order to get those loans, they must prove their net earnings will increase continually. Therefore the primary driver of every companies existence is to raise their earnings quarter over quarter and not produce anything of value. CEO's salaries are so high because they are basically working for the bank that owns their company through all the loans. The banks make money through issuing loans, so the more loans they can encourage to be issued, the more money banks make. Notice that debt free developers running all on their own money actually make good games. It's because they don't need to make the banks money in order to survive. They just need to be personally profitable, which are two completely different things. Humanity needs a total rethink of our monetary system and game developers is just a symptom of the issue.
