There are so many great lures that come from the US but it seems that some of the best lures recently have all come out of Japan. Having highly pressured bodies of water in Japan means that anglers have to think of unique ways to trigger bass that will work when nothing else will.
In this video we talk to Japanese lure designer and professional angler Kenta Kimura about what makes his baits different than any others!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

I was born & raised in southwest Ohio just north of Cincinnati. We moved to southern SC just about 2 years ago now. I'm a Kayak angler that fishes a lot but do not fish tournaments. I started fishing big swimbaits, crankbaits about year n half before we moved. Big cranks & swimbaits absolutely catch bass in Ohio. I had never caught anything over 4.9lbs but there's not a lot huge bass up there. They are around just hard to find & even harder to catch! I love fishing big baits because not a lot of people do. I never saw anyone else fishing them anywhere I went before we moved. I've only seen a couple people fishing them down here. The bass fishing has been excellent for me down here. I've broken my PB many times over. 3 weeks ago I caught a 7lb 6oz then a 5lb 8oz then a 8lb 6oz on Klash9. Had even bigger bass jump off 2 weeks ago. I think it was 10-11lbs because it was way bigger than my current on the 8lb 6oz. Definitely don't be afraid through big swimbaits or squarbills. They will catch fish everywhere. Just have keep throwing them. Most people put them down to quickly & pick up smaller baits their already confident in

Awesome podcast. Bass Nerd 101. One suggestion would be since this was a recorded and then published. It would have been interesting to see the bait as y’all were talking about them.

Kenta always puts a lot of work into the baits he makes it shows I've seen him take like 3-4 years to design the power wiggler. Which is my favorite paddle tail style bait I don't think I can think of any bait he makes that hasn't caught me fish the evoke is my top producing squarebill in size and numbers.

I love the idea of these, but $24 for 4 of em on Tackle Warehouse is steep! I just looked yesterday, the lemon or whatever is the only color left of the non salt ones. Salt type are all sold out. Well I'm sure after your video, they're all sold out...lol. I thought this was a video on the OSP dice when it started...not a Kenta interview. 😂 Excellent point about Japanese baits being about water movement and the lateral line. Most Japanese bait discriptions are hard to read, but they all speak on water movement. (Well almost all).

Sorry, gotta make another comment. Hes spot on with the big squarebill, and speed. Big glidebaits take very specific conditions for them to do really well. When big bass are on Gills or crappie or guarding fry that big squarebill works great. I like the Megabass Big-M 2.0 or 4.0 as Bull Shoals (Ozark Lake) gets deep quickly in most places. That bait even fires up the big smallies.

One thing I’d like to request is if you can show a picture of the lures that your topics are about. I found myself watching then Google-ing the lures mentioned in the video. Just a suggestion. Awesome episode btw!

@@rick4649 that looks like it would be really really hard to find , I’ve never seen anything like them but I fish in a super highly pressured area myself and I could just see something like that working at certain times , another thought it’s been a long time but I’ve seen these little freshwater jellyfish that are like a white almost translucent color around my area in southern Indiana and I feel like they could mimic that fairly well.

The F’1’s are an awesome fish, I never knew they were stocked on the west coast, I know a lake that has had F1’s stocked every year for the last 10 years, the fish from the first years are getting pretty big, it’s been several 9 pounder’s caught this year and tons from 5 to 7 pounds

They didn't want to eat anything today. I managed a big bluegill and a couple of nice shell cracker, but it took hours of bouncing different baits off their noses to get three fish. The bass wouldn't hit anything and I through everything in the box. Couldn't even get a follow but they where eating something.

I don't even fish for bass much, maybe not at all now that I live around the Chesapeake Bay and saltwater fish. It doesn't matter, this is good stuff. I want to make some lures that don't exist and are original as far as I know. The ideas are ready, I need to make prototypes and see about manufacturing them. So this is helpful info. Hearing about the thought process and design stuff helps. Thanks. Hopefully you'll know and love my products soon. A couple of them will be great for fresh or saltwater.
