*American welders* are in trouble if these machines catch on here. I just might buy one and start leasing it out to people who are too cheap to pay a pro. An employer can either buy a $30,000 LightWELD machine and immediately start depreciating it as capital, or they can hire a welder and pay them twice that much every year. If they don't need an expert welder they won't hire *any* welder.

This Type of welder is Great for Light/Thin material, But the Strength of the Weld on Steel this Thick would be Minimal At Best,, There is Absolutely Not Enough Heat to Melt the Parent Metals Either Side into One Solid Joint.. This is a Surface WELD ONLY..NO REAL HEAT PENITRAITION OR POOLING OF THE PARENT STEELS..

To Make this Type / Size Joint with This System as Strong as Traditional MIG Tig or Stick Welds You Would Need 2 things.. WAY MORE HEAT /Penetration and another Few Overlapping welds.. I still remember during my training welding 2 pieces of 10mm plate Steel butt Joined with a 50mm long Single pass that took 35 tonnes of pressure under a Hydrologic Press to Break the weld.. I Doubt Very Much this Lazer weld would Take Much more than 250 kg if not less to SNAP !!

Laser welding is as strong as MIG, better in some cases. The only difference is the heat source. I wish they had pros demoing them and explaining how the process works, instead of mostly cute girls in a trade show environment with no safety equipment. There's no UV but you still need to protect your eyes from reflected laser light. It's hot enough to melt steel; it can burn a retina just as easy, and so can the puddle.

It’s probably fine for light duty work. If you NEED Industrial welding you wouldn’t buy one of these. I want to see it done right, most of these coupons are rusty. We have lasers that blast away rust now; there’s no excuse for welding over rust.

Quick and easy but doesn’t hold together as well as stick or mig, nor does it penetrate. Shines best for arts and crafts but when it comes to building vehicles boats and planes stick and mig is best.

Beautiful welds but I see a couple of problems with the video, first problem I see is you didn't strip the rust off the metal before welding which can weaken the welds, 2 I'm not sure how good the penetration is on those welds because you didn't stay what you had the welder set to in regards to weld settings and 3 it looks like the video has been sped up which tells me it probably takes longer to weld in reality then what you've shown.

Some of these laser welders are around 1500w of light being focused onto a spot the size of a matchhead. At full power they can blow a hole through 1/4 steel almost instantly. It's essentially the same tech as what's used to cut steel with lasers, but flowing argon instead of high pressure oxygen and has a wire feeder that feeds the pool.

@@millythecat7211 Soldering is nothing like Welding. Welding takes (2) pieces of metal & melts them together so that they become (1) molecularly fused piece of metal **very high material integrity. Soldering is melting "solder" material between (2) other pieces of metal to basically "glue" them together **very low material integrity (just "glued" on the surface). It's like using mortar to "glue" (2) bricks together; if the mortar is weak or falls apart (deteriorates) then the bricks fall apart (are "unglued") because the mortar is the only thing holding them together. Welding melts the metals together creating a "weld" joint that is as strong as the original metal (since they've been melted together).

Is this for real? This is good for emergency purposes because the weld is not that dense. Any idea what brand is this?

For sure they are real, but basically they are industrial lasers without safety enclosures. The customer is 100% responsible for the safety of this type of tool. In the EU, USA, and anywhere laser safety/work safety regulations apply, you need to make sure that Class 4 lasers are used in accordance with safety regulations. In other words, they can be a legal nightmare for employers. I think there are many brands coming from China (considering safety standards there 😅), but I would first caution about the safety and legal aspects of these products.
