PATTERN AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD IN THE DESCRIPTION! DISCLAIMER: Make sure to check local laws before making a Sap or Blackjack device. Some US states allow them, and some don't. ALSO, if you would like to order something from me, I put a Google form in the description above that you can use to submit a custom order. Feel free to ask for anything you like, and I will let you know if I can make it! Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed watching the craftwork. Subscribed. The challenge these days is there are tons of laws in place to limit “targets from having ways to defend themselves, and the criminals don’t seem to care about having illegal weapons. Or breaking the law otherwise.
Yes, it's an unfortunate side effect of those laws. Bad guys don't care about the laws, so what you oftentimes get is an unarmed good guy who followed the rules and an armed bad guy taking the shirt off their back, or worse. But anyway, thank you very much for subscribing, It's much appreciated. 🙏
Put a small pocket on the outside to slip in a micro multi tool. Then it validates the tool/utility aspect and would still be useful as a last-resort, improvised flail with an extra metal bit with sharper edges.
Birdshot is a great filler for a dedicated sap. But yes, you're right, the idea is to use it as a coin purse unless absolutely necessary to self-defend.
I carried something like this for years, mine was carried in one of my pockets, with a heavy cord with a sinker that hung outside the pocket. I never used it, because, IF I sense a problem developing, I retreat, always. If the problem develops too quickly for you to retreat, you are better off not wasting time getting a weapon. Maybe I could have used it instead of my fists then the Balmain Slipper, but MOST times I got into fights, it was the other guy trying to sucker-punch and getting countered hard.
I reckon I could get enuf quarters in there to do 2 loads at the local laundromat , and dry em too 👍😉, nice to see folks use their talent and knack to make something useful. Hope you never have to “defend” yourself : but if you do . . . . .
WOW!!!!! You are an awesome craftsman!!!!! A buddy of mine suggested that I carry I similar size leather piece but is a screwdriver holder for two small screwdrivers that is secured on your belt. It’s a tool belt idea but smaller that could be used for other reasons. I’m always in need of small screwdrivers anyway. But I like your idea too and it could be also be carried. I’m a tool guy and I need them for my job. 👍🏼 You do beautiful work that will last a lifetime! I would love to have you make one for me. Stay safe brother! 🙏🏼 Shared and Subscribed. 👍🏼
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that! I like the sound of your screwdriver tool holster. And thank you very much for watching the video and for sharing/subscribing. I hope you like my upcoming projects.
Neat design, but I'm not sure I want any more weight on my belt. I already carry a Gerber multi-tool and a spare magazine. What coins give the most weight per volume?
A quick Google search said the Double Eagle $20 gold coin is technically the heaviest circulating coin, haha. Never seen one of those though. I think your best bet is to load up on 50 cent pieces.
Thank you! I placed a link to my tools tutorial video if that helps? That other video shows all the tools I recommend, the ones in this video included. But I hear your feedback, and I will try to link in the future. Thanks for watching 🙏
@@CastilloHeritageCrafts If folks are in a no-gun state, they need something to use to defend themselves. It is getting crazier every day out there. A simple pugilistic weapon is effective.
Saps, a type of bludgeon, are prohibited under federal law and the laws of every State with which I'm familiar. These devices are categorized as "dangerous instruments". Such weapons are not afforded protection under the Second Amendment because no military force throughout history has customarily used them, thus saps do not qualify as "Arms".
this is considered a slap jack/blackjack so check your local laws as they are illegal to carry/use in many areas, i know they are here in colorado sadly as i already considered it for when i can't carry a firearm. i ended up going with a good strong self defense cane for those situations being a medical device, and being just a strong cane they cannot deny it, of course the hidden blade ones would be a problem though.
@@CastilloHeritageCrafts LOL! Neither would a perp. I can see the headlines now: "Perp tries to rob mad, when suddenly the would-be robber sees stars."
Yes, there are places where it's legal to own, but carrying it is unlawful (in some places a conceal carry license covers saps and blackjacks.) Thanks for watching.
They are just for a bit of extra support to prevent small coins like dimes from slipping into a place you can't reach. Yes, I glued the inside of the handle, but over time It could have potentially opened up in there.
I am still researching any risk involved with selling these, seeing as how they are illegal in some US states. But if I find a safe avenue to sell them, I will be informing my subscribers ASAP.
I feel like if you hit somebody with that, you’re just gonna piss them off. Is that any worse than getting hit with a fist? Not trying to come down on you just genuinely curious.
Saps and Blackjacks are illegal in several states for a reason. You can very much break bones with this thing, especially when filled to the brim with coins.
If you hit someone with your fist you may do as much damage to your knuckles as to your opponent. But a sap is basically a dead blow hammer. There is little rebound so most of the force goes into the target. You don't hurt yourself, but hurt your target a lot. A sap pocket used to be standard on police uniforms. A sap was much like a like a night stick, but stealthy. If a cop was grappling an opponent at close quarters, even a light blow with a sap could end the fight. Problem was, a blackjack or sap is TOO efficient. A strike from a sap can break bones. A strike to the head can very easily kill, even if that wasn't what the cop intended. You had to be VERY good to apply just enough force to stop an opponent, but not too much to kill. Not enough cops were that skilled😅. Basically, saps and blackjacks were outlawed (where they are outlawed) because they were too good at what they did. They ARE deadly weapons. If you use one, expect that is the standard that will be applied.
Yes, sand is good. Metal BBs or buckshot is even better. But the point is to be a coin pouch first and foremost, with the added benefit of helping you in a dire pinch. You're also right about sporting events, airports, and such. It likely won't be allowed in places where even pocket knives are banned. It's also illegal in some US states altogether. And thank you for watching! I appreciate it.
Worthy idea. I'm just not comfortable with the zipper. When you smack somebody, it's going to come from deep - something you don't unleash on a pumpkin. That force will likely pop that zipper. Using the same design shape, and less work, maybe don't glue the handle shut. Use that, with a squeeze to open and close, run the coins through the tube. No zipper necessary.
I like that idea. The coins slide through the neck instead of the zipper. For what it's worth, I think the zipper would hold up. But in an emergency situation, you need peace of mind that it would absolutely never bust open. My reservation is that it might make it into a better Sap and a slightly worse coin pouch. You'd have to empty the contents into your palm until you find the coins you need, then feed all the unneeded coins back in. With the zipper, you can sift through and pick out your coins. But your design is definitely worth tinkering with. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you very much for watching.
@@CastilloHeritageCrafts lol, to be truthful, I never really considered the possibility of actually REMOVING coins LOL. They're much more useful IN the coin purse LOL.
Definitely, if you carry a bag or if you're a woman carrying a purse, fight off attackers with whatever you've got! This is just a convenient way to carry extra change with the upside of potentially helping you in a pinch.
I do believe that in most jurisdictions, state & local, carrying a "sap" is illegal and a knowledgeable cop would quickly determine that was what you had, especially if you had given reason for him to conduct a frisk of your person. "Well, what is this, pray tell?" And with that the cop would begin stacking charges on you. I would say it is unwise to have this hanging from your belt and should be carried in a pocket like a coin-purse would normally be carried. He would probably just examine it, see coins and move on. But dangling from your belt, possibly swinging from it, just might connect the dots for him. Anyway, that's my observation which does not detract from the fact Castillo is an adept leather craftsman.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment and compliment. And yes, you're right. Even I myself have hesitated to carry it, as an eagle-eyed policeman might recognize it. That being said, pocket, or even cold-weather climates where you have a coat hanging over it most of the time are ideal if someone were to carry this (and of course, check local laws for the legality.) Thanks again for watching!
Some places have their $1 and $2 in coin form, like Canada. And yes, it's much easier to carry a knife. But in addition, it doesn't hurt. The more prepared, the better.
This is something that could get you in legal trouble, saps are banned in a lot of places, even if you're mixing it with a coin purse so pay attention to the law if you're making this because making it yourself can get you in even more trouble there since it would count as intent there
Yes! I put a disclaimer in the description. Many US states allow them, but still, many do not. You have to check with local laws before building saps and blackjacks.
That's what some people do with other self-defense devices. One is called the "monkey fist," I believe. It has a ring on the end to pass it off as a keychain.
I only meant to add key ring , to make it look more like a key chain , than as a weapon . It would be easier to pass off to law enforcement , than a sap .
Police don't randomly search you unless you draw attention to yourself. If you use this to save your life doubt you will be charged with anything. But this all goes out the window if you live in democratic state,NY,Mass etc!😊
Exactly, many people will be able to carry this without any issue. And some might say it's better to defend yourself in a lawfully questionable way than be unquestionably harmed. But it's still good to check local laws. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely, I made sure to put a couple of disclaimers. There are states where this is legal and some where they are not. Anyone looking to make or buy something like this should check. And thank you for watching!
