So, I've read every comment here. Some of you are very 🙂and some of you are very 😡. You guys can say whatever you want, I will take all of the feedback and hopefully make better videos in the future. For those of you asking for my bot addons, I will list them both here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2279814689, steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=655424673. And 8 survivors: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1488979533
Honest question: why did you decide to review a campaign with 8 Survivors on your team? If it was to account for the campaign's difficulty, I could understand, but I don't think you specified. I don't see any evidence the campaign was designed for 8 people. IMO if you're *reviewing* a campaign you shouldn't install bot mods because most people don't use them. You had problems in this campaign that a vanilla player wouldn't experience, and also you likely avoided problems a vanilla player would run into. There's no correct way to review something, but I feel like this makes your review less useful to the majority of players. Maybe something to keep in mind in the future? EDIT: To clarify, I know you said you *think* this map would be unbeatable on Expert Realism without 8 players, but I get the feeling you started with 8 to begin with. Just a little odd IMO.
@@nascoz3884 Obviously there's nothing wrong with 8 player mods, I just wouldn't recommend it for a review specifically. Other than that, this was a good watch and I hope you make more of these 😊
@@nascoz3884 to be honest the complaints about the gut not respecting you are kinda pointless your just straw Manning the map creator i would think he put a lot of work into the map that you played just for to take a big shit all over it if he didn't care about the player he would not have put the work into the art style and sorry to say this but i think it fair to not have as much support for solo realism players after all Left 4 Dead is a team game
@@kccrute8239 A tank with modified 15,000 hp in the first minute of the campaign (Inside a invisible wall enclosure with periodic hordes) with 2 nerfed tier one weapons is a epic way to show off your art skills.
Btw, Tank in the first chapter has WAY MORE health than it should have, so it's even more ridiculous that you have to survive this sh*t with no weapons or items at all.
He literally runs past a gun @5:01 while Rochelle is pointing an Uzi at him and then he cuts to Zoey with a Shotgun. Idk why he keeps claiming to have no guns when you can see all the bots using them. I'm sure the map was difficult, but just straight up lying over video footage that contradicts what you're saying is just silly.
man that part where Ellis is telling you to run is depressing, sure Nick isn't known to be a great guy especially towards Ellis yet Ellis tells him to just run.
Fun fact: the cutscene where bunch of hunters jumped out of the roof is a references from old Chinese Wuxia movies that most of the film industries in China that time like to put the fight scene where protagonist was surrounded by bandits on the roof.
Imo, the worst thing is that he didn't use a single witch. Especially considering half of the "scary" shit they tried to add could have fit great with it. Like in the one campaign where there's like 15 witches in the corn, he could have had a spot with some cover and a few witches, and if you kill them, you get cursed, summoning a horde
the funny part about the invisible walls is that in the first chapter its shown that the path was blocked BY PROPS, but then later on the map creator doesn't even do that and sticks with the lazy method of invisible walls despite legit putting props there in the first place

@@fernandooctavio4105 I make campaigns myself and I totally agree, the real-time building destruction is an interesting gameplay element that's also really hard to make in L4D2. Aesthetics are pretty damn good for the most part too. Veeery ambitious, but alas, a campaign that's not fun to play is never worth it...
I've seen a lot of people playing through "Questionable Ethics: Combined" recently, played it myself, and you actually need to make careful decisions at times on what you want. For example, you see a cash of guns that look good for now that requires a gas can, but who knows if the next one will have better weapons, and there's not enough gas cans for all of them, hell even half of them, so you need to make careful decisions and it's so damn fun.
Don't know if it's the same map but i played Questionable Ethics (first map) it's nice and different but absolutely doesn't respect the player as well, totally not about skill or decisions at all, but only luck rate. At some point the map puts you inside a very tiny space with a tank and a CONTEINER to be punched by the tank and instadown everybody, insane AF. The final map with water and lot of zombies and crushing platforms is garbage, even on normal.
@@marcelosouzaa1998 Questionable Ethics: Combined isn't that bad, but it does have a section with a large arena with lots of shifting floors where tanks spawn, first one then two, and there's four dumpsters the tanks can use. If you're smart, though, the only times those dumpsters are a threat are n't when the tank's near them, it's when it's on a moving platform since L4D2's engine is weird.
@@marcelosouzaa1998 you are talking about questionable ethics(V2). There are three questionable ethics. Alpha, combined and V2. The first level with the tank is ez. Trigger the tank, set him on fire, then run back to the bridge. The final level is to test what you have learnt. It's not the creators fault you suck or are unable to strategize. Did you play with bots? Did you only play it once? Did you play it just like any other map? Here is an advice for the final level: camp with your team either near the gate or get on the pipes. That way you can cover each other and make it just fine. And yes, I am allowed say you suck at l4d(or atleast in that map) due to you calling questionable ethics "garbage".

I do think it's necessary to say that the map-making on this is amazing as a hammer editor. The rest might stink ass, but I can tell the map took a lot of time to make.
Seriously! Making buildings fall apart in real-time in Hammer is extremely tough to pull off. If this campaign worked on its flaws it could really be something special and unique.
It sucks because honestly there’s so much more potential for this map to be good and such, it’s really unfortunate that pretty much everything that isn’t the scenery or aesthetic is really bad
@@bluscout1857 it's actually not that bad but this is a chinese map and chinese players usually play with full team and with mods like stat boosts and such. this map only sucked because it wasnt played the way it was meant to be. before you say everyone has freedom to play however they want, it is true but then you cant blame creator or map, its your own hole you dug that you fell in.

Ah Hometown, one of the most painful campaigns that my buddies suggest trying to play it together on expert without realizing the horrible fate that would be fall upon us. Looking back on it now, I'm surprised we managed to at least complete it fully in the end despite the painful setbacks we had went through. But this map isn't the worst one that I have seen. From my experience, there were even more unfun maps like hehe or Chinese-named only maps that made me suggest otherwise. Still nice review video 👍
@@redactedgamersgd1788 farewell chengming is not really that bad because atleast the FINALE map has a huge space and thats one of tank's biggest weakness and they can only throw rocks at you and i beat the map with bots
This map reminds me of troll maps like hehe maps, with bad level designs and unfair spawns, which are almost impossible to finish on even the easiest difficulty legitimately, though at least those maps were intended to frustrate you
Unrelated to this map in specific but I'm STILL on the hunt for a specific l4d2 campaign I can't find anymore. It's whole gimmick was having obscure alternate paths and inserting dead center one onto different official campaigns. Glados showed up at one point, and I think it got rather artsy towards the end? I can't remember what it was called for the LIFE of me and it's driving me mad.
When I played the map. I think the creator of the map wanted the player to explore the area for supplies because when I did, I got some weapons at the start.
I usually don't comment but this map gave me a fond memories of 3 players cock and ball torture as me and my friends made our way through this map in Expert with vanilla weapon. There are *far worse* maps out here, I wouldn't say this map doesn't "respect" players as it's pretty much made with difficulty in mind, it's just badly designed, that's all. Although the worst offender of this map would be the finale, you can actually cheese the tank by blocking it on the ladder on top of these towers, although this doesn't stop other tank from climbing up and decking you off from the tower anyway. I also played the entire thing with 400 ping as my 2 other friends are from another continent, this took us about an entire day or so to beat, with us coming back to beat it again after months to see if it's still difficult. Moral of the story is: Chinese maps are notoriously difficult so always play those with caution.
The map creator should have added tons of rubble to block areas you aren't supposed to be instead of invisible walls. Hell, put a sign behind the rubble that says, "You're not supposed to be here :("
I get the strangest feeling like the map maker had good intentions, but is just new to good map design as a whole. Like it looks pretty decent visually, just regarding balance, ehh…
There's a reason why not all mod creator could make an official game better if they pulled stun like these with no experience from knowing their player's feedback or study on how to properly design a game that is fair for all players to pick up and play
The Resident Evil campaigns are pretty fun. Honestly there is a lot of detail put into the campaigns. The puzzles are accurate, the maps are super accurate, and its just overall a good time

The respect wasn't for you. (you who turned difficulty up above what the map creator suggested, and complain it doesn't respect you...while you don't respect map creator) The respect was for the author's home town, for the memes, for kungfu movies...etc. As for the mudmen, ever wonder why the map is all foggy and later chapter had a river? There's water nearby, water -> mud -> mudman. The weapon pack was optional and it wasn't all ww2 weapons(PKM is pretty obvious if you knew anything about guns). Sometimes a map is intended to be played a certain way to provide a specific experience to the target audience(you're not one of them); if the author doesn't have time/energy to "balance" the map for all difficulties/player team composition...etc. that's really not a problem. Because at the end of the day this campaign successfully broke out of rural america aesthetics for the most part and feels unique in the cutscenes(again, kungfu movies...etc.).
@@nascoz3884 I see this the same way as I see Silent Hill or Resident Evil Outbreak...etc. campaigns; from the ground up the main objective is to achieve a certain layout/look, whether it's worth replaying is secondary. Of course they may be terribly balanced...etc. and you probably never want to play again, but they provided a "story driven" experience. What made me want to keep playing wasn't the absolute slog that was unbalanced campaign on expert, it was the experience of seeing RE:Outbreak/Silent Hill...etc. in first person in a fairly authentic recreation. (RE1 campaign was pretty good too; jill sandwich room is there) By end of that slog of RE Outbreak file II campaign like a decade ago, everyone in the lobby added eachother on friendlist, we still never talk sometimes.
Day Break and Dark Wood are very overrated for me. In Day Break I hate the last level. I don’t like Scavenge ending, especially in a very poor game designed level. Dark Wood’s just a shitty campaign, I hate especially that map with a timer in the end. I don’t really understand why people call them the best.
Never played Day break myself, but i can somewhat see what you mean about Dark wood, i kinda look at Dark wood as a campaign you just kinda play through with some mates and have fun finding the easter eggs, i mean you can't deny its got a lot of detail
This seems like a pretty standard workshop with some neat mechanical elements, it’s definitely not one of the worst. The majority of the issues you have with the map are evidently self inflicted, it clearly says at the start that the map is intended for a party of 4 on normal difficulty but you use 8 bots instead and then up the difficulty. It’s ok to not like the requirements but not following them is obviously going to negatively impact gameplay. The weapon changes also seem to be optional addons that aren’t forced onto the player.
I could've made this video better by playing with the intended settings as well as Expert difficulty. However, that doesn't change the point I was trying to make here.
@@cdsatcher I mean yeah questionable balancing isn't too out of the ordinary for custom maps, especially for maps that are intended to be difficult. I wouldn't say that makes it one of the worst maps on the workshop, a mediocre or poor one sure but not at the bottom.

Personally, I think 2019 and 2019 II were good maps. They did seem too big at times, and empty, but I think the story and later levels were the best part.
If this map is set on a coastline over in Asia I don't think having mudnen is too out of character of the area you're playing in was hit by a typhoon, however since that specific context isn't delivered I can see how it throws pretty much everyone off
I can appreciate how hard this is. Since like this on normal is similar to expert on others, and its really a test of skill and teamplay, even when its made poorly in some parts (imo).
I get how the map was made exclusively for all human players teams. Some things about the map are only made to put the player to a big struggle, and it is a great way to keep the game relevant for advanced and expert players. Putting them to the edge, making them feel insignificant, only for them to feel invincible at the end of the campaign for beating all the hazards it threw at them. The creator made it clear at the beginning, play with human players or go to hell. It's like playing I Wanna Be The Guy, but in L4D2. I also get how unfinished it feels, but you can figure that aout at the beginning by reading only chapters 1,2, 5 and 6 are available. I just hope the campaign gets bigger and more polished with the time, because I see huge potencial by looking at the atmosphere, the buildings, the signs, everything makes you feel out of place, because you are in another country, in a place you are not used to live in. If I were to summarize this campaign in a few words, I would say: "uneasiness, survival, imposible challenge, dread". Only for players who like big challenges.
Have you ever played Chernobyl? My friends and I have been playing custom campaigns for a while now, we play on expert (standard 4 survivors) and usually don't have much trouble, we managed to beat campaigns like Darkwood, Daybreak Suicide Blitz 2 and even Warcelona where the finale is total fucking bullshit on expert but we can't get past the second level of Chernobyl. Every chapter goes on for like 30 minutes, with level 1 weapons lots of zombies and meager item drops, even ammo is kinda scarce not to mention environmental radiation damage it's absolute crazy. I would love to hear what an expert like yourself would have to say about it.
Wait, really? I played through Chernobyl: Chapter One (it's the name of the custom campaign) the first time and got through it fine in under 2 hours. I usually play new custom campaigns without cheats before every subsequent playthrough after (because I play Solo), so I'm surprised to learn that there's someone (along their friends) who weren't able to beat it.
@@metro0612 well for us, health kits spawn quite rarely (sometimes none spawn in one map) and there were frequent spawning of hordes. Although we were not that good at the game at the time and i suppose we could give it a second chance.
@@LightningXD I have a habit of just randomly exploring every nook and cranny of a map, since I tend to find stuff like Pain Pills or Adrenaline (sometimes a random First Aid-Kit) laying on the floor. The only part of the map that I had an issue with was the one where you had to find 3 graphs to open a gate to enter the sewer, since hordes would spawn. But other than that, the map was doable solo with bots. But yeah, I think it may have just been unfortunate spawning of supplies that screwed you and your friends over. Mayhaps try it again and see if it's any different.
Map almost broke me, the lighting was consistently awful bc chernobyl has a certain look associated with it, so in replicating it the lighting stays very similar. And said lighting literally gave me a migraine.
I dont mind that beginning warning. I dont agree that every map should be for every player. Thats not realistic, and this was clearly meant to be a difficult multiplayer experience. If you play solo, other maps would probably be better, but no map is gonna satisfy everyone

You can't do that on realism expert. My point is that this map was designed for Normal and Advanced. IMO, a map should be designed for every difficulty.
@@nascoz3884 i mean that not why i would qualify the map trash i would qualify it like that because it use cheap tactic to make it longer to beat like the witch that you're stuck with in the first level and the tank with massive health and also the later part of the level 2 is bad because it's cheap

Yeah you just missed the weapons, the bots had them. Also did you change to expert? And you know what, this wasn't some professional made map, why are you judging it with the same level of scrutiny? That's respect, putting the map balance to the test and providing feedback to the map creator. "Just unsubscribe" That's exactly what normal people would do dude. This guy put 3 years of hardwork making the map aesthetically pleasing just to have first 5 minutes of map have cutscenes where you take damage, two weapons pickups to fight a modified tank with 10,000 hp, and 10 hunters? Be reasonable, no one will continue playing this. They'll just move on to another map. Unless you're like me, someone who doesn't respect their own time. This message that the map creator put at the beginning of the map is a horrible counterargument. Because I can use that logic for my own video. Oh I remember playing this with some friends. We never did finish it after getting to the area at around 7:00. We must have played an older version of the campaign at the time, because I don't remember the teleport into a jumpscare room if you fell into the pit below and just died instead.
So, lets make it clear: Creator very clearly meant that this campaign isn't for solo. Because he explicitly stated the amount of people he balanced this campaign around. It is very clearly a challenge campaign. And you very clearly didn't play this campaign the way the author intended. Why most of video are complains about difficulty? I would understood if you had actual teammates and fail regardless. That would have been a sign this map is poorly balanced, since it does not perform well even the intended way. But that didn't happen, instead you played this campaign the unintended way. You do realize you kinda look like a guy from that meme where he puts a stick in his bicycle's wheel and blame someone else?
So in order to play this campaign the players has to sign two contracts? Bring 3 friends who have 1 hour spare time and play on Advance? At that point you may as well pick another map. You're correct, solo the map is hard because the bot teammates you have are unfunctional for the majority of campaign. While a four player team with an ounce of knowledge over the game would breeze through it. I know exactly what I did, I played a map alone on Expert Realism. This isn't the first time nor is it the hardest campaign I've beaten. Unlike Hehe or Bai mountain those maps don't make me sign a invisible contract.
@@nascoz3884 Certainly agree on every point made. Yes, this campaign is extremely inaccessible, which isn't a good thing in itself, which in turn makes whole campaign not good. I don't think its plainly bad, because - yeah, good team would breeze through it (like it would through anything completable, more or less) and would probably have a good experience. And yes, its a dumpster INFERNO for solo playing. But not liking its aesthetics or its challenge (while playing it unintended way) does not make a good criticism either. I am quite sure that with a team you would stop your conclusion at: "meh" level, not worse. No beef, but it pains my heart every time some questionable (or bad) stuff is berated in some questionable (or bad) way. It isn't math, two minuses won't make a plus.
I played the map alreadey bevore i watched your video. And all i have to say is, there are a lot of maps with insane difficulty, but the good maps always give you tools to clear it. I never finished Home Town, and after seeing this Video, i will not even think about it.
Kind of a bitchy review tbh I am actually amazed at all the features that the map maker managed to add, even if they were a bit lackluster, it is still impressive they were able to add edible food, new guns, a few(Albiet poor quality) cutscenes. The maps even have good visuals and look like something you would probably see in a normal campaign. What I see here is a good modder, but a poor game designer Also kind of weird that the map recommends you to play on a certain difficulty, normal for single player. and yet you bump the difficulty up to expert and do realism apparently. You purposefully made the map worse Probably why so many special infected spawned in imo
if you think this is bad, have you played any left 4 dead 2 maps where every 5 minutes a horde (sometimes TRIPLE) spawns in? I swear to god those exist and I've left one too many "informative" comments on their maps' workshop pages.
@@sieevansetiawan4792 the only time I had problems with that map was after the scripted chopper crash. Endless hordes until you reach the saferoom. Other than that, it was a nice map.
The weapon modifications are accurate to real life, like the AK with its normal 30 round mag and harsher recoil especially with the wooden buttstock compared to the AR family. *Then again we are in a world where a steroid abuser can become the Hulk through a F L U*
2:13 I don't think all maps should always attented to these points. I don't know why your mad at the map for not including solo even though the game is designed around co op. I mean it's not that hard to grab 3 friends and play a game together unless you don't have any.
The one thing I hate about a lot of custom campaigns is that they don't know how to get the length right. So many custom campaigns have maps that go on and on without a safe room. It really tests my patience because if my team fails a map, we have to restart and go through that ALL OVER AGAIN. And then there's the ones that have like 10 maps in one campaign. Ideally, for a good player who prefers advanced as the best difficulty, a campaign should last at most around 20 minutes or so. The worst one that I can't even remember the name of, that one that had the baby crying crescendo event, had this SUPER LONG cave that lasted forever. And it was just super lazy brush work. It only vaguely looked like a cave. No ammo, no health items, nothing to keep the players going for that long. Then the map maker had the audacity to throw in a double tank encounter at the end. Even Glubtastic 1 isn't so unforgiving.
20 minutes at most seems pretty short though. Most official campaigns are designed to last 30-60 minutes, especially for players who aren't rushing to the exit. It's definitely true that a lot of custom campaigns are too long though.

This looks like a fun map meant to be extra challenging, it just has some serious flaws, like those cutscenes forcing you to take damage, and the invisible walls. The rest of your criticism seems either because of optional things or just not playing as recommended by the author. So, the ratings automatically means the campaign is good? Okay. I suppose IGN giving Black ops 3 a 9.2/10 means that it's a masterpiece. No, it must be a skill issue for the people playing that game to not like it.
@@angellara7040 Oh am I? Or did you just say that out of spite? Anger? How about some evidence that IGN is in fact paid off? I'm not defending them in any way but, what you are saying has very little to no evidence. Also, are you saying the map creator paid me to give this review? I don't even know the man. You should read the description by the way. Might help you understand my perspective a bit.
