On the one hand, he's promoting his website. On the other, his product is good. I find his reviews fun. He's playing the capitalism game brilliantly and I say good for him! It's kinda like Amazon. I think he Bezos should pay his workers more but I can't stop ordering from them. Amazon is just SOOOO damn convenient.
As a 74 year old driver of a Lincoln MKZ with a 400 HP engine. I have so much fun with young people who look at me and think old lady driving a Lincoln and then I leave them behind in my dust.
Blast " mo Bamba" by sheck wes through your stereo when they catch up to you at a red light "probably doesn't happen often" to throw em for even more of a loop.
I'm not a huge modded car guy, especially when it comes to panthers, but I appreciate where this guy was coming from with this swap. Anyone who puts 500HP in a luxury car AND says, "No, no, keep the wood grain," knows where their priorities are. If you try TOO hard to make a car into a dancing bear to point and laugh at, you make it less than what it was. By beefing up the horsepower and still respecting the machine's original purpose, you add to the personality without also taking some of it away. Really neat.
My grandmother had a 2004 Town Car Signature and was essentially my first car. Even though it's a boat with an engine that "only" made ~240hp, I was always surprised at the ability to pass someone if needed. It's a lot quicker than you'd think, so something like this is really cool to me.
I have a 99 TC signature right now. Cut the exhaust off and love the sound of that 4.6 V8. I will never sell it. Not to mention its only got 160k on the clock and these things do 500k with no problems. I mean it is a fleet car.
i had a 2000 taurus with 250k on it with broken fuel gauge and leaking transmission but it had passing power and was buttery smooth! it had the vulcan V6 2.9L and i liked it best $500 i spent in my 20s.
If you're going to make a sleeper car, THIS is the way to do it. Giving it a more power, better wheels to handle the power, and adding a slightly more modern touch while still keeping it true to it's essence, the owner did a great job with this one. I love your supercar reviews but I enjoy reviews like this as well Doug, please do more of these. I know these reviews don't get the same amount of views, but for real car enthusiasts, we enjoy these vids just as much as the supercar ones, I promise you.
As a Terminator cobra owner myself, I can say this is probably one of the coolest engine swap that I’ve ever seen, and seen Doug’s reaction is priceless. He truly understands what makes the 03/04 Cobras so unique and special, just a pulley swap on those engines and you are making over 450RWHP, ridiculous power for an early 00’s muscle car.
@@mrdanflores huh? I'm confused. How do you know that? I'm seriously interested, (not trying to be argumentative) what exactly is that and how is it different from the terminator engine?
@@christopherwalker6056the teksid block is the strongest ford block ever made, and I believe the strongest American oem block ever as well. Idk if this car has a teksid or not, but that would only make this car that much better! People easily push 1500+ on stock teksid blocks.
I had an ex who had a Lincoln Town Car and I absolutely LOVED sliding it around. She was less enthusiastic about it, but what I would've given for a 450WHP version. I love these town cars and it is amazing to see THISSSSSS
I love this! When it was in highschool (2013), this was my dream build (except in black). An executive sedan that you saw everywhere, make it a sleeper, and only I would know it’s true power.
Seeing you in episodes like THIS....the ones where you're smiling ear to ear from pure enjoyment.... THOSE are the best episodes! I'll never be able to drive 1/100th of the cars you've been able to, but your joy makes me feel as if I had just as much fun as you have! Thank you for these reviews! Much love and God Bless! Keep doing your thing! 😂🤣❤️
GrandPah here. Trunk lid pull downs have been around since the 1960's at least. I'm also a proud owner of a 2003 Town Car Signature series model with the 4.6 engine. I had my engine modified to around 400 hp and 395 ft lb's of torque. I am having the leather seats in the front recovered and the pull handles in the front replaced. When done she will look brand new. Already had the body fully sanded down and repainted and replaced all the chrome. She is a looker for sure. Don't have 500HP but she will jerk a knot in your neck when you floor it.
I bought and own a 2004 Town Car at 75,000 miles for $10,000 and the one I got was in a garage all its life and the interior is immaculate. No joke the back seats were never sat in. Even the ash trays, all of them, were NEVER used. I would do anything to add a Terminator Mustang engine to it.
I like Doug’s energy and enthusiasm he puts into his vids. Really seems like a happy kid on Christmas. Loved the Cobra R vid. Def gonna watch more of these.
My dad drove a Lincoln Town Car for over 2 decades. He did a lot of driving for his job and he got a new TC every year/year and a half. He'd turn them in with over 100k miles each time. I swear I don't remember them ever breaking down. I partly learned to drive in these - it was like driving your living room around. Corners were terrifying at 15 years old!
I absolutely love this build, and whoever wins this will too. I am actually surprised he did the Doug score because I knew it would beat out EVERYTHING else, and it did. His expression while driving it says it all.
Looking at it, the Lincoln Town Car looks like a fancier cousin of the Crown Victoria, but with a "common" engine. But this? This is something in a whole new level. I'm just blown away by this car
I mean, yes, the Town car and crown Vic are mostly the same car, built on the same Panther platform, however the Town Car is a much nicer car with even the base models much better equipped than top trim Crown Vics. Also, the air ride suspension makes a huge difference in the ride of the car. The Grand Marquis straddles the line, with top trim models being closer to the Lincoln and base models more like a Crown Vic.
Doug ,thank you for reviewing this car combined with your giddy reaction to the torque experience since my grandmother's 69 455 powered buick wildcat. No disappointments. Americans have forgotten what getting put back in the seat upon acceleration is.like liftoff of a old school commercial aircraft . Love it. Great review.
I love this thing. A mechanic in my hometown did this with a Chrysler LHS. He was always a big sedan guy and so he slapped an Apache 392 motor in it and kept it automatic. He even put a quiet exhaust on it. Only way you could tell was the quad pipes and the the fact it was gapping you on the highway.
If I had a nickel for every time I've heard Doug talk about the 1999 Mustang Svt Cobra this week, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
Hearing the care the previous owners did to this car is really something you don't usually know when you purchase a used vehicle. I hope the winning bidder will take care of this car like the previous owners.
I have always pondered why this sort of modding isn't more popular. Make the car look maybe a tad bit cooler, bit nothing overly crazy. More power, but nice ride quality. Bentley et al have been doing mega power luxury cars for ages, and many people see the point in that. But that sort of people doesn't seem to be modders I guess. This is really, really well made. Well done, those who are responsible.
Turning Panther cars into sleepers are certainly satisfying. They are muscle cars as they share the Mustang engine in ALL model years (though toned down), but people never realize it.
Doug, note on the gear vendors overdrive unit: doesn't necessarily strengthen the transmission(unless it was built by GV) its an addition gear set for an extra overdrive gear OR you can actually split the gears. Instead of going from 1st to 2nd gear it would be 1st then gv engages, 1 "and a half" then gv disengaged then goes into second gear, meaning technically you can have up to 8 ratios 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 etc. It can be engaged manually or automatically
Unless it's been regeared to 4.10 or something, I couldn't see someone putting on a gearvendors overdrive. These things from the factory are stupid tall geared.
@@mmiller1188 well since it has a GV overdrive unit installed, there is a possibility that it would be used to split the gears as I described. Not necessarily for extra overdrive in that case Edit: owner explains in one if his videos that he used the GV for highway driving and explains how it kicks in
This reminds me of my 96 park ave ultra. May not be a v8 or rwd but supercharged v6 and cutting edge tech for the 90s. It's got the temp control on the steering wheel, rear passenger vents, soft close trunk, and moves pretty damn good for an old buick.
👍my neighbor sold me their park Avenue with bad mounts for $200. I think it was $500 ish for parts and new favorite car was born. Went everywhere. Moved out well (not a race car). Rode so smooth! I loved that car. Then a ding dong hit it. Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.
the 96 is okay, but its not really the comparison you may hope, buT! If we were talking the previous panther gen of town car(ugly tbh) from the same time, it would actually compare really nicely to those. THe 97-05 park avenue really can shine if you get a pretty one and do a few solid things that dont break the bank
Wow.Back from 'Cars and Bids' sight after reading the info.I was going to ask if he'd used a Marauder sway-bar,and yes they did. With an engine rebuild, and the trans, and differential about 10,000 miles ago,I'd say this is a pretty new set-up.I'd buy it if I could. What a great car!
Regarding the instrumentation, the seller could have either swapped in a Marauder cluster, or better yet, modify a late model Panther cluster (these had a tach during the final years) to reflect the Terminator's redline.
I've always been very disappointed that Ford discontinued the panther before upgrading the 4.6 to a Coyote. A factory panther/Coyote would have been legendary.
@@RC51Legend it's a regular resistive touch screen navigation unit, think Pioneer made it. Complete with voice interaction and a motorized drop down screen that has the 6 cd changer behind it built into the headunit. High tech and high dollar stuff for a domestic in 2004. Mine still works like a champ other than the CD unit is dead but they haven't updated the maps in 15 years or better. I can't quite bring myself to swap it out, everything aftermarket looks like crap.
Man that whine sure brings back memories of my old Marauder with the Trilogy set up I originally had before I ultimately went overboard with a Terminator block/Fl-A ProCharger/6 speed manual (as seen on my channel) Hands down insane fun but after 17+ years it was finally time to pass the torch and continue on my bucket list of cars.
Town Cars have always had the potential to become proper muscle cars, it’s sad and weird to see they never made them. This is truly an amazing car, great review Doug!
@@fokakya Not necessarily because that was a car that was targeted towards a more younger and hipster demographic, so it wasn’t as luxurious or comfortable like a Town Car.
@@benitomejia03 you're definitely right about that. I think the whole Mercury brand was aimed more toward that demographic. As nice as the Town Car is, and to the OP's point about its potential, I don't think Ford would ever have decided to try to make such a thing because there would be no market for it, especially back in that era. Nowadays it might be more well received, as people expect much more performance from expensive luxury cars.
I had two 89 town cars with 150-160 hp 5.0. My second 89 a fully loaded faux convertible top with cd/cell phone/lower chrome cladding moon roof, LSD. I did a 350 hp mustang 5.0 swapping from speed density to mass air. I had to modify the wiring harness because the intake and ac compressor are on opposite sides from the mustang. Thankfully the cobra intake manifold is symmetrical so it was a fairly easy swap. Had to change a few sensors, add maf, and move a few connections at the ecu to change injector connection because it was a different firing order. Also upgraded springs, shocks, aod transmission. Had true dual exhaust, h-pipe with two high flow cats and still passed emissions! Turned a 16+ second ¼ mile almost 3 ton car to mid 13sec. Cruised at 100+mph easily and burnouts were awesome. The best feature was the keyless entry pad on the door!
Doug, I admit I don't watch a lot of your videos but holy cow this has to be my favorite one you've ever put out. The Terminator mustang is one of the most epic cars ever made and to engine swap an old towm car with that powerplant? LMAO 🤣😂 that's beyond epic
Super neat car. Love the idea of a OEM+ style build like this. It is strange to me that they went so far to make it look factory then added that cheap looking front bumper lip.
Man I used to follow the guy on IG that built it and sold it. I remember it used to have no mirrors either. Such a cool ride and I’m happy to see it still in mint condition.
I have a friend of mine who goes to car shows with me and he brings his straight-piped supercharged town car and it always steals the show. People love it.
I love that car. My grandpa had a 99 when I was growing up and I always wanted to get one and put a huge engine and a blower. I’m glad I’m not the only one with that vision!
okay, so when your job is to review pretty much every car there's since the last decade and you've driven every car no matter how powerful it is and experienced cars that put down more than 1,000 hp and you happen to find yourself inside a 500+ hp car and put your foot down, then the immediate thing that you gonna do is smile blissfully and utter, "oh, I wanna do it again!" then this is just the ultimate prove that flooring a vehicle can never get old, never. thank you for demonstrating that, Doug! 😅😊
Doug. Lincoln actually tried to do this, with the Lincoln LS. In 2002 they created the LSE McLaren. A 360hp supercharged, 6 speed manual version Of the Lincoln LS. Sadly only one was ever built, and it's been missing since it was first shown in the 2002 New York autoshow. I would love to see if this car still existed, as would most of the Lincoln LS community (all like 3000 of us)
@@HeavyTanker-vx4oq It wasn't a Ford prototype, it was a car McLaren Engineering made to try to get a contract with Ford. I worked for McLaren and I saw pics of the car at the scrap yard and talked to people involved with the project.
Like you, I love a "clean" swap, particularly when the swap components stay within the corporate family. Really dig this car. Curious. The Mercury Marauder had a somewhat "enhanced" gauge package in the dash, if I recall. I wonder how difficult it would've been to swap that into place. Still wouldn't have gotten a boost gauge or some of the others out of the deal, but it would've been a cool touch that might have reduced the need to mount things on the A pillar or steering column. Regardless, fantastic job on it!
The mercury marauder got the 32v 4.6 which makes about 320hp... Same engine as the 2001 Cobra which Doug seems to forget existed haha... They came out in 99... Skipped 2000 year and came back in 2001 then disappeared again until 2003 with the supercharged version of same engine from 2001
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ukMVIY7SAkQ.html Doug seems to like to pretend he doesn't know things in order to make his videos more engaging for people who don't follow everything he does.
Having driven as a chauffeur for 25 years, the last five years also doubling as a mechanic I can tell you for a surety that the Lincoln town car is a wonderful vehicle without any modifications at all. And at 68 years of age, I really enjoy the comfort that the town car gives me. I am so looking forward to purchasing my third, hopefully my last.
A couple of my Town Cars came from the factory with a tachometer. I believe one of them was a 2007 it also had a sunroof. So if you look hard enough you could find one.
06-11 had them. Same for the other panthers. And they had navigation screens for town cars from 2003-2008. But Doug gets a pass for not knowing, most people do not!
As the owner of a self-modified supercharged 2003 Marauder and a lightly modified 2007 Town Car, I can say that I wholeheartedly approve of this video! :)
@@joshuacolbert1762 I have done suspension, intake and exhaust, after-market engine and transmission tuning, and 3.73:1 ring and pinion gearing in the rear end. Suspension: ADDCO anti-sway bars front and rear, Metco billet aluminum rear control arms and Energy Suspension poly bushings and the same for the watts link arms. Intake: cold air intake setup with a K&N conical filter and a heat shield box around it, straight intake pipe to the throttle body and a polished upper intake plenum. Exhaust: Stainless Work long tube headers that are Jet Hot coated, high flow catalytic converters, H-pipe cross-over, dual 2.5" stainless steel piping back to a pair of Magna Flow mufflers and then out to 3" polished tips. Tuning: Engine and transmission tuning by MartyO at Mo's Speed Shop in Atlanta. Also a few other minor things: Steeda under-drive pulleys, one range colder spark plugs and 180 deg thermostat (to support a bit more timing), slotted brake rotors and Hawk HPS pads, and other small items like these.
that was, in my opinion, the best video in this channel. I belive the channel more doug demuro could be dedicated to cars like this or go even further in tunned cars unpractical and fun... I believe its not the core of your business but see your reaction and having fun its pretty cool
The crown Vic is usually to obvious, most car guys would know that it's likely modified, because crown Vic. A town car, probably glance at it and think nothing.
This is got to be one of the coolest modified cars I think I've ever seen this is definitely a one-off rare would love to have an unfortunately I can't afford it but it's still cool to look at
I feel like someone should write a song about a hot rod Lincoln. Also, the "soft close" trunk would not have been cutting edge in 2003. It was quite common (if not standard) on luxury cars back in the '70s. Looking it up, it seems Cadillac started offering it as an option in 1955.
It was probably expensive but I doubt it wasn't as expensive as it would've been with any other car. Those panther platforms are pretty massive for anything & everything
There’s a car dealership specialty motors Anthony Gozzo he and his father did a video of on restoring a 2003 Town car that was sitting since 2007 to 2022 with 10k miles yes 10,000 miles and they replaced the gas tank and other things: They do restorations on other cars as well of different models
i appreciate the effort Dougie boy has put in over the years to have essentially every car that he has reviewed to be stock. i can also appreciate if Dougie boy reviewed a few tastefully modified cars here and there hey Dougie boy can you please review all the 80's/early 90's sports cars? that'd be a fun 50 videos or so
I never understood why the Mark VIII engine (Cobra...) never got into the LTC. Owned a couple Mark VIII's, one LSC with that 32v V8....much better than the regular 4.6L. New meaning to the song "Hot Rod Lincoln"! Only thing that Terminator LTC needs is a massive sunroof. LOL
@@BC08 Yeah, I agree...got pretty good highway mileage on my 95 Mark VIII base and 97 Mark VIII LSC. Difference was the power...and the Mark VIII had a much better air suspension.
I've been following articles for this car for the last year. I never would have imagined Doug would review it! I guess the owner will finally be able to sell it now
It's about freakin' time you're reviewing a modified car! For the record, a soft closing trunk is hardly groundbreaking for 2003. The Pontiac Trans Am GTA had the same soft closing hatch feature way back in 1987.
That's the Temple Performance Town Car. I was following the build years ago and remember when it was listed for sale 4 or 5 years ago. I was actually shopping for a Town Car around that time- I can't remember if I saw that it was for sale before or after I bought my 05, but I do remember it seemed like a really good deal at the time based on the mods and build quality. Of course it was out of my budget for a basic daily driver Town Car, but sometimes I still kick myself for not splurging a bit and trying to pick this one up when I had the chance- I'm sure it will sell for more this time around (and in my opinion, the car certainly deserves to bring a hefty price). That being said, my 05 is a Signature Limited model so I got the moonroof and heated seats, so I think I've got the better car (joking) As far as the mostly stock suspension and handling, most people would likely be surprised at how well this generation of Town Cars handle- I certainly was when I bought mine. While it may be no European sports sedan, for a car its size, it takes turns pretty well (on stock size touring tires in my case). Of course I've only got around 240 hp at the crank, so I've only got to keep control of about half the horsepower this car has, so to whomever the new owner ends up being, your mileage may vary!
