Paul, I can't say it was rude of you to refuse money for hauling away items for the lady. I feel people would be thrilled to be rid of items and have it done at no cost. Take it for what you will. It's my opinion and I'm sure my opinion stinks. Granted I understand your position on things yet I'm thinking you shouldn't have to dwell on it all
You both did a great job and worked well together. Dont feel bad about not accepting a gratuity, it just shows that you're not greedy, just humble. Yep I'm with you guys nothing wrong in graciously declining a tip. Paul explained that they got cash from the metal to the lady. In the UK the tipping culture is very different. I would have felt a little greedy getting a tip like that sort of two bites at the cherry thing. Be happy with the cash for the scrap and even happier for helping the lady out.

Shane is so cute and funny! Seriously, if you're doing someone a favor and they want to tip TAKE THEIR MONEY! If the scrap is by the curb, that's one thing but you guys hauled that out if her backyard.

It’s nice that the lady offered you money for taking the scrap. I served a short stint at a hardware store and several times I was offered a tip for putting items in customers cars. I would tell them - “I appreciate the offer, but I’m already getting paid for this. If you could please give this to your church, or donate it to your favorite charity I would be happy with that.” 🙂 BTW - nice lift, looks like it’s working well for you. 👍🏻👍🏻 IDEA: Hang a little dolly on the side if your truck so you can dolly the refrigerators and water heaters to the lift.

That stand is an oldie. Judging from the size that held a 55 gallon tank. Those were made to last. I still have one that holds two 29 gallons. Great to see you both again. God bless.

I feel it was very right that you did not take the money. Your refusal of the money was very polite, and the short reason of why you did not take it was also spot on. You don't know, but that may have been the last bit of cash the lady had until payday. She was also raised right, she offered the money to 2 well mannered men doing her a solid. I haven't been on here for a while. I've had a huge bout of depression going on. I ask for prayers because this is getting the worst of me. Satan is working hard in these last days. I once worked for a compressed gas/welding supply company. Part of the job was delivering medical therapy oxygen. One customer offered me a tip for delivering a cylinder...not a common thing here, but he was visiting family and where he was from tipping was just a part of life. I was uncomfortable taking his money, but his daughter told me he would be hurt if I didn't take it...so I did.
Receiving the gift is a spiritual gift to the giver. At my work place we do not accept tips because as a team some are in position to be tipped while others are in the background working just as hard, so we tell the tippers to put something in our employee appreciation box.
Ah, recyclers. We are a special breed. Over time we learn to see the parts instead of the whole. And how the parts might be useful and to whom. It is a learning process that just keeps being refined. Love it!
