IDK if y'all saw the mom drop the lit match, but I've always looked at it like the mom knew she wasn't gonna make it out and she didn't want her daughter left with her abusive father so the only way out she could see was to take him down with her and make sure her baby was safe from him! Some of us spend our entire childhoods in this type of situation and the system fails us over and over! I'm glad you made it out Mel!! ❤
On Martina's "Greatest Hits" DVD, she explains that a scene was filmed for the video (and ultimately left out) which showed the mother being led into a police car. She said she "always kind of regretted" that it wasn't included as the mother was supposed to survive the fire that killed the abusive husband. Hopefully that clears up the ending of the video.
@@DelinquentSquirrelidk why the record label left that scene out….. the WHOLE video is sad and dark….. I guess they were ahead of the curve like Jordan Peele’s changing the ending of Get Out:((!!
"She lit up the sky that 4th of July". Mama burned the house down with both of them in there and the little girl went to the county home. It was an act of desperation to end the violence. Its sad that everyone knew what was happening but no one helped. As a DV survivor, I know what it feels like to be trapped with no one to help you get out. Thank you Jesus for getting me & my child out of it.
You guys should know that Martina put her ALL into this video. I heard that she actually suffered some burns from standing so close to the house when it was on fire. But like a rockstar - she kept going.
She knew they only had so long for the shot, so she used the pain to fuel her performance. You can tell when she's being burned because of just how much more she's going into it.
Truly one of the most underrated women of country music! Not only does she have the beautiful angelic voices but the most beautiful blue eyes you ever saw. Glad to see yall giving her flowers! Great reaction yall have a blessed day!
I was child and adult protective services worker fir State if Alabama fir 25 years. I saw things I'll never be able to get out if my mind. My father was alcoholic till I was 16. Because if my childhood, I grew up wanting to work with families to protect kids and elders. So when you made statement about our childhood determining who we grow up to be, I just had to write this to let you know how right you are. Great reaction as always yall! Thank you! Blessings to you both!❤🎉😊
I was raised with an alcoholic father. An absentee mother, and I bet you did like I did, and broke the chains I am sorry that you went through that to me. I look at it like it made me the person that I am today. Lots change since I grew up which I’m an old woman and 58 so I hope you have had a much better life. God bless you.
Martina grew up in my home/birth County in Kansas. She's the real deal...she grew up singing in church and then sang in her father's rock band while growing up. And now she has a fabulous singing career and is a gorgeous woman inside and out. We are very proud of her and her beautiful voice in our County and kudos to her for speaking up and out with her beautiful, haunting videos she puts out that stick with you forever.
I agreed🤗, Martina has so many amazing hits, my favorite is: ((WHATEVER YOU SAY!!)), but I wouldn't be totally honest if I didn't tell the complete truth here. I was never a country music fan, yes I had to listen to the older stuff because they both loved dancing to it. I liked most every artist of the 70's and loved all Motown. So as each new decade passed, 70's, 80' and then I suddenly noticed that the music begun changing drastically at the beginning of the 90's. I just couldn't hack the horrible stuff that people were calling music, out went the instruments, live performances and concerts were fading away fast, and auto tune made anyone that could barely sing stars. I was done, I thought well I can listen to all of my favorite artists and music back in the day. Then in 1992 I was out with a friend and he popped in a CD and then I heard immediately it was Country, I looked over at my friend and asked him, What Gives? He paused the song, (and I had to admit, whoever that singer was, was quite excellent!) my friend said, what do you mean what gives? I said, come on, since when do you like that sappy country music? He said, just like you I hated country music, but the garbage that's trying to sound like music today I just can't stand to listen to any of it. I was at one of my friends hanging out, then he ask me if I knew this new country artist that has just come out, and I told him, why in the world would I know any country music artist? I can't stand country music. My friend said, it's not like the older country music, it actually sounds great, and I'm hooked! His friend went on before my friend could respond, and said, I'm telling you, this guy is already a mega star, and I've also found many others out now that are also excellent!! Then turned back on Dwight Yoakum, after a few songs my friend looking sheepishly at his friend said where can I get this guy's CD? While I listened to my friend telling me why he switched over to this new music I kept an open mind. I finally said, well let me see if he's a good as you say. From that moment forward I fell instantly in love with so many of those artists. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bore you to tears with my reminiscing. But, what I was initially going to say was I do like Martina, but my very favorite female artist is "PATTY LOVELESS!!"" Have a wonderful evening 🤗🤗🤗
I love that ya'll have become Martina fans, she has powerful songs and of course a beautiful powerful voice. Can never get enough or Miss Martina McBride.
Aww, Mel you made me cry... I love how grateful and humble you both are.. You're such a warm and loving couple.. Your hearts are wide open and eveyone can feel it.. Thank you.. ♥ 🙏
This is such a powerful song. It hits my heart every time. I am so sorry Mel that you had to go through those rough times, you are one of those rare people who seems to have an inner light. You carry yourself with grace and are a beautiful person. I am so glad that y ou found Shawn and that you have the chance to raise your wonderful family together.
She has been one of my favorite singers since I heard her first Song. That lady is dynamite! She has such a powerful voice! They say dynamite comes in Small packages, That Lady is dynamite!
Thank you for advocating this I grew up in a household like this and ended up surviving 4 abusive relationships I now have 2 criminal justice degrees and I'm going for my masters in psychology to help others I'm 47 had a heart attack in January but situations like this push me to prevent again thank you ❤
One of the legendary voices in country music. This is her signature song and there's not an ounce of alteration, that's exactly how she sounds live. If you want to see even more of her voice, "Broken Wing" is a great one, as well "Where would you be" and "How Far".
"Now I ain't sayin' it's right or it's wrong, but maybe it's the way...Talk about your revolution. It's Independence Day!" Maybe the hardest hitting lyrics ever, and this is one of the best country songs and videos ever, and Martina McBride has the voice of an angel.
Hey Shawn and Mel! Martina McBride is amazing and every song she does is beautiful! I have a song suggestion for Martina McBride it's In My Daughters Eyes. My daughter turned 18 in March of this year and I have been singing that song to her ever since she was born!
Y'all she sounds even better in person! Love how she brought attention to topics we don't often talk about. For a fun one, try her "this one's for the girls"
First time I heard this song was on Sean Hannity's radio show several years ago when he had it as the intro bumper music. I had to search it out to hear the whole song and it really touched me when I found out what the story was actually about. Thanks for reacting to it.
Now tell me, if you please, where else can you hear such a powerful and important message told anywhere else? Classic County music is fun and can make you want to dance but it can also bring you to tears and make you wonder. It's meaningful and I'm very glad y'all have discovered those facts. I know; however, how wonderful and generous y'all are and have been. God bless you.
This song was written about Francine Hues. She was the first woman to be equited for murder do to the abuse of her husband. She lit his bed on fire and left him. They made a movie about it called the Burning Bed with Farrah Faucet. It’s a brilliantly done mivie that is hard to watch due to how realistic it is. But if you really want to know the whole story watch the movie.
This song was written about the true life story of Francine Hughes which became a book and a movie entitled "The Burning Bed" with Farrah Fawcett. Francine was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity.
My children and I were going through the same thing. I didn't take him out because I didn't want my kids to have to step over a dead body to get out of the house. I finally got him out, with force, and divorced. They would go for years without seeing him or speaking to him, and still do as adults. Whenever I have the chance, I tell him that he should be kissing their butts because they are the only reason he is still alive.
Fun fact, Martina actually got burned a little bit cause she was too close to the flames towards the end of the video. She used the pain she was feeling from the fire to project her voice even further.
This song and music video was banned for a long time on a number of radio stations for shining a light on DV. She refused to back down and the song went viral regardless. God bless her
She does an accepella version of O Holy Night that's mesmerizing. Few versions on RU-vid but the one from 15 years ago is the best. Gives me chills every time I listen to it
স্বাধীনতা বেজে উঠুক, সাদা ঘুঘু গান করুক গোটা বিশ্ব জানুক, আজ স্বাধীনতা দিবস.....❤ Lyrics: Well, she seemed all right by dawn's early light Though she looked a little worried and weak She tried to pretend he wasn't drinkin' again But Daddy left the proof on her cheek And I was only eight years old that summer And I always seemed to be in the way So, I took myself down to the fair in town On Independence Day Well, word gets around in a small, small town They said he was a dangerous man But Mama was proud and she stood her ground She knew she was on the losin' end Some folks whispered, some folks talked But everybody looked the other way When time ran out there was no one about On Independence Day Let freedom ring, let the white dove sing Let the whole world know that today, is a day of reckoning Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it's Independence Day Well, she lit up the sky that Fourth of July By the time that the firemen come They just put out the flames and took down some names And sent me to the county home Now, I ain't sayin' it's right or it's wrong But maybe it's the only way Talk about your revolution It's Independence Day Let freedom ring, let the white dove sing Let the whole world know that today, is a day of reckoning Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it's Independence Day Roll the stone away It's Independence Day.....
Angela Carter was Martina's niece, who died at Martina' sister's hands, after her nasty divorce. She was 7 years old. I love Martina McBride too! She's beautiful! I'd marry her in a heartbeat. Her eyes, her lips.... I bet she's a wonderful kisser! I'd hold her in my arms and hug her so.... OOPS! I have to stop now. My wife just called and said she's on her way home. I still haven't done the dishes or finished the laundry yet. I'm probably going to catch an "Ass Chewing" when she get's home. You guys are great! Keep up the good work! Bye.
Love that your an Orioles fan. But talking about this song.. I was in an abusing relationship for 3 yrs... and he convinced me it was me that made him beat me... and I believed him.. but the one night he kicked in my son's bedroom door... he went too far... what he did to me was one thing.. but you will never put my child into it.. Thank God I had family that took me and my son in.. You will never hurt my child.
Let the weak be strong Let the right be wrong Roll that stone away Let the guilty pay Its INDEPENDENCE DAY! Noone can give you freedom, freedom is gotten, fought for and sullied. Hard earned but easily taken. Never let someone take yours.
"Cheap Whiskey". The recorded version of the song plays like a guy who's wife / girlfriend left him because of his drinking. Still pretty powerful, and Patty Loveless did a great acoustic cover on her first Mountain Soul album. The extended version for the music video - yes, you're right. Kleenex needed. Takes it to a whole new level.
This is one of my favorite songs by her. It may not show her vocal range and power but the song always hits me emotionally. Also like the double entendre of the title God's Will.
Martina is tiny little thing but that voice. She had a wonderful home life and a great marriage. She did she songs cause she supports the abuse and works for cause
My earliest memory is of my father sitting on my mom, who was 8mths pregnant, beating on her. It happened more often when he drank. I couldn't stand to see any kind of violence growing up. I remember seeing wrestling and getting behind a chair crying. Years later I took martial arts and got got away from the fear, but one thing that never left was knowing I would never live like that. Have a blessed day.
