My parents were mentally and physically abuse by their parents. They choice to break that cycle to became the best parents my siblings and I could have ever wanted. Raised with so much love. They are both gone now. I miss them deeply.

My neice and nephew were shot by thier father in 2000. When this song came out I resinate with it so much to my core. The little girl in the video even resembles our sweet Angel Josephine. I swore Martina knew our story and wrote this for us!!!!

I coached 5th and 6th grade boys basketball for many years and I seen so many who suffered from life at home. I tried to show them how much they meant to me. You’d be surprised what a little love will get you. Some of the boys have kids of their own now and stop by the house just to check on me since I became disabled. They see us out and there’s always a hug for the wife and I. That’s all kids need, a little love and respect.

Independence Day is another great song, Martina tackles domestic violence.

The first time I heard this song I broke down. It was because I was that little girl. At 5 I had to be shocked back to life after a beating. I grew up in foster care and I swore to myself that my kids would never go through what I did and I broke the cycle of abuse for my family. No child should ever go through anything like that.

As a child abuse survivor, I cry whenever I hear this song.

As everyone else has recommended “the Little Girl” by John Michael Montgomery. It is actually a touching uplifting song with a Christian undertone. I am 49 years old and recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. Your videos have been heartfelt in their emotions and i have loved watching your evolution from not liking country to liking country in the last few days. (I just found you). Thank you and your wife for being a little light and joy to my life in a dark time and God bless your daughters. It looks like they have an amazing father who will protect them from the storm when they need that.

This song breaks me everytime. When I was younger I was abused. Not anything close to this but still abused. It was in a foster home. But I love this song but I cry everytime I hear it.

I was abused growing up, I made it through only by God's grace. I came very close to the ambulance and grave. Every time I listen to this song it takes me back to a very dark time in my life. I am thankful that it is over. I try my best to love my son completely different than my childhood.

This is such a great song. This video is so hard to watch. I paused twice before the music started just to try and brace myself for what I knew was coming. Still had to pause again halfway through to pull myself together. I actually hate watching because it tears me up so badly, but always watch anyway to support the song and artist…and on this occasion to support the reactor as well. Thank you. I have the utmost respect and love for artists brave enough to speak out on important issues. It’s so admirable that she uses her platform in this manner. This was me as a child, for 13 years every day not sure if that would be the day God finally said to me "Welcome home", but 4 times I always got "it's not your time, you have a long life ahead, be patient I'm here with you, my angles are watching.", and I was sent back to hell. idk why but I'm still here. Excepting your death, 4 times as a kid really messes you up. and with a mother that does nothing but allows it and hide it, tell you to lie, and a church that turns their head and tells you your the problem obey your parents, its a miracle I still believe in God, but that's because he has shown himself to me. I know I can't be broken, by anyone, tortured or beaten I'll get through again, my soul can't be broken. I figured each time if, I died my brother and mother would be free at least, but he still walks free, and my mom still talks to him. That's not forgiveness that's stockhome syndrome. Churches are corrupt so I don't go to church anymore and I don't take my kids. but we still teach God's word, I don't need a church of hypocrites and backstabbing gossipers do be close to my God.

Martina is probably the most powerful voice in country music. She is the only one that can out Pat Benatar Pat Benatar herself, and she did on an episode of CMT Crossroads. Thing is, she's a tiny lady, but she can belt it out like someone twice her size!

Martina is amazing. She uses her talent and platform to bring attention to a lot of difficult topics. A few other country singers do the same. The teacher seeing those bruises and doing nothing always fills me with rage and then, at the end, the teacher is there at her funeral.

Your comment about being the parents/adults that we wish we had when we were younger..that is how I try to live my life every day. My father was a mentally and emotionally abusive alcoholic and to this day I still have lots of issues from what he put us through. But now in my late 30s with a husband and two sons, my life goal is to make sure that my kids never have to experience what I did. Home for them will always be a safe place, even if mine wasn't growing up.

This was my anthem growing up, i was lucky enouph to survive and became free, this song gave me strength and determination to never break.
