I like David Ruffin and Paul Williams voices when they sing lead parts but my two favorite lead singers on The Temptations are Dennis Edwards and Eddie Kendricks they're my favorites and I love their lead songs the best.

That was a SHORTENED version of the song...there's another verse that begins, "Soon we'll be married and raise a family..." SO, please find the full version and take a listen! They probably had to shorten the song for the TV show abnd YES, that's Eddie Kendrick from Bullock Co. Alabama, where my mom and dad were born an raised...AND, there's a mural painting of Eddie on one the buildings there in Union Springs, AL.

One if the BEST verses was left out: "Soon, we'll be married, and raise a family. A cozy, little home, out in the country-- with 2 children, maybe 3. I tell you I can visualize it all. This couldn't be a dream, for too real it all seems..." Although it may border on fixation--even psychopathic, I personally think it's one of the most BEAUTIFUL songs I've ever heard...

"Just My Imagination" was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. Love your reaction to it. The lead singer is Eddie Kendricks, who had an amazing falsetto. But check out The Stylistics singing "Betcha By Golly Wow" a love song from the Philly International record company. Philly soul competed with Motown and had big hits too. You should check out some Philly soul also.

This is part of the Motown era & they had a lot of hits in the 60's - 80's such as "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "I Wish It Would Rain", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)", "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Treat Her Like A Lady", "My Girl" etc. They were known for their harmonies, choreography & dress style.

Shout out to the late Norman Whitfield who wrote and produced a lot of the Temptation later hits, like Papa was Rolling Stone, Ball of Confusion, Just Imagination and other notable songs.

I had dreams about a young lady in H.S. the same way that I was too scared to ever approach and tell her the way I felt. Wow ! Y’all bringing back memories of my very early childhood. My mom was a huge Temptations fan, and one album I remember in particular was a live album recorded with the Supremes called “TCB “(Taking Care Of Business)

The singer was Eddie Kendricks and this was the last time he recorded with the Temptations. He left and had a solo career. I hope you do a reaction to Ain't Too Proud To Beg, Wish It Would Rain, The Way You Do The Things You Do, I Could Never Love Another After Lovin' You, Don't Look Back, etc. And do another reaction to My Girl using another video. That was not David Ruffin's voice or the rest of the Temptations. Those voices sound like they came from the movie.

Eddie Kendrick is his name. The man who sang that deeper version is Paul Williams... he was sick at that time from being an alcoholic... I would say a few months later he took his own life.

Mel, you're right. Ed Sullivan had his variety show on television from the 1950s into the 1970s. Many great musical acts as well as comedy and sometimes Broadway made it to a national audience on Ed Sullivan. One could say this show was to variety entertainment shows what Johnny Carson was to late night programs... the one all others are measured by.

Such a strong reminder how fortunate are those folks who have a loving partner to share life with. I'm not one, so I can really appreciate this. Never take that person for granted!

Yes so awesome you got to this song, one of the great slow jams of all time with the Great Eddie Kendrick’s on lead. They just don’t write lyrics like that anymore. Although this wasn’t Smokey’s he wrote some great songs for the Temps, like “Since I Lost My Baby,” of course “My Girl,” “Get Ready,” “My Baby,” and others. Smokey was a prolific writer, great poet and one of the greatest song, writers, producer, singer and entertainer quadruple threat! Just Amazing! When my youngest daughter was 5 I bought an album titled TNT. The Temptations vs The Four Tops. It's awesome & I still listen to it. Not one scratch on that vinyl. LoL anyways she heard this song. Then we heard it play again then again. I thought the record was skipping. No she was putting the needle back at the beginning. By the third time she heard it she had memorized the whole song. For 2 yrs after every time she didn't believe what someone was saying she started singing "well it was just your imagination running away with you....." She's still a character today & that's still her favorite song

You definitely should watch the movie The Temptations because it's an excellent movie and it really does show the path of The Temptations that shows the turmoil it definitely shows the drug use in the early deaths of some of their members do to drug use it shows Paul Williams killing himself now I will tell you Paul Williams have sickle cell anemia which cost him a great deal of pain and he finally got to the point where he couldn't deal with it and the alcoholism anymore so he took his life. It was sad but at least you can understand it by understanding how much pain he had to deal with daily.

Yes, Ed Sullivan gave a platform to so many singers,commedians, and perfornmers. He was the one to watch to see new talent and if they came back time and again they were making it. Even Steppenwolf made their Debut on Ed's show. He didn't look to comfortable with them,but they came back time after time. I remember him Introducing them as the Long Haired Rock and Rollers Steppenwolf.Many many black artist and groups were regulars.We always loved to watch his show.

I used to Walk back and forth to work eveey day for years and listened to this on my headphones. Walking by homes that I envisioned myself living in. And always remembering this song ♡

This song was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. Smokey Robinson did write what is probably The Temptations most well-known song "My Girl." This song also marked the last time founding members, Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams, would sing and appear with the group. Eddie was already in the process of starting a solo career when this song was released, and Paul was forced to retire due to bad health.
