Hello Tom its me again in one of your videos some months ago you said when your down the range other golfer's will watch and listen to the noise of the club hitting the ball well today someone did approach me and asked me how are you hitting a 7 iron around 60 yards so I pulled out my phone and gave this guy your name and gave him some S/T tips I never ever thought anyone would ask me for help but thanks to your guidance and support I'm now a bit of a golfer. Mr.saguto..could you be more explicit where the position of the Ball when you start your swing?.. you keep emphasizing the center but it doesn't look like it especially with the driver..bit confusing because it looks like your attacking off center!!

I was so frustrated with the inconsistency in my ball striking that I almost gave up golf for good last year. I started watching Tom Saguto’s video’s and practicing his techniques - now I’m consistently shooting in the 80’s and working my way to shooting in the 70’s. Tom is the best golf instructor on RU-vid or anywhere else. Thank you, Tom.

Mikey, I play in Boston , old Boston that is, in England. After a back injury in April my game tanked. I was shooting up in the 90's, it even peaked out at 110. By July I almost quit, until I started watching and practicing what Tom was teaching. Keep It Simple Stupid. I practiced in my garden, I practiced at the range. I am now back in the 80's thanks to Tom, hard work, and application. Golfer of the World Unite, we are brothers.

😂 Tom u r the dude: I did study Ben Hogan over the last five months in Arizona. Back in North Dakota I found your golf school online. You have emulated Hogan to T. My wife and I are headed to Europe, and along the way will go to Saint Andrews for a tour. When I get back, I will join your golf school. You teach golf adding shenanigans. 😂Love it. Great stuff. I am 71 with (was a sore back) 🎉😅not anymore!!! My 7 iron added 10-15 yards. Had to warn the next county when using my illegal weapon the driver. On a roll Tommy! U and Hogan rock!!!

LOL! That's awesome!! 💪💪 I sincerely appreciate your kind words and thanks for sharing your pain-free improvement! I'm very glad to know that you are benefiting from my instruction content and enjoying my teaching style. Mr. Hogan delivered - and continues to deliver posthumously - phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied teachings - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I’m doing my best to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered. Keep up the great work, enjoy your trip to the Home of Golf, and I look forward to seeing you soon in the school!! Tom

Yes! And you'll see the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening to varying extents during the backswings of many - dare I say most? - Tour players. Why? Because it facilitates a centered motion and puts the golfer in great position for a powerful delivery in the downswing without the need for any manipulations or precise timing that is very difficult to replicate swing after swing. Keep up the fantastic work and thanks again for your very supportive words! Tom

This video really is the key 🔑 i watched it yesterday and practiced the move in my yard, no balls. I could tell it was working just by the way the club hit the turf and how it felt. Played at noon today and shot 78! (Par 70) no range before (irons only) it just felt natural! Im usually around 90+~ GIR is my weakness, usually 5 or less. Today, 10! Thanks for making great content, Tom! I sent a link to my son because you explain the swing so well.

Wow! Another awesome video. So many golf instructors focus on all these little things, resulting in players thinking about 12 dozen different things as they approach the ball. You teach different aspects, but they all point to one, simple, concise, and most importantly, repeatable, way of striking the ball. Your videos are the best I've ever seen.

@@SagutoGolf Look at the drawing and understand there’s a spiral coil of torque going up his right leg… keep watching and pay attention To the backswing and how the pressure in his trail foot increases and increases and increases and increases. The amount of force that he creates into that trail foot in the backswing this is good as it gets. Remember he had an extra spike put in that shoe. He goes all the way to the end of that force which has no choice but to go the other way. Fred Couples does the same thing on a different plane. Hogans whole downswing is driven From the bottom of his foot just like a pitcher… I understand making it simple but if you want to feel this just point your trail toe at the golf ball at a dress and swing and you’ll feel the torque build up for yourself.

I've been consciously working on this and my ball striking has become seriously good. Slower in the backswing and accelerate through the ball. It seems slower but the ball is going further and with more accuracy. It seems counterintuitive but it definitely works.

Of all your videos, this is one of my favorites. Even if we manage to properly coordinate everything else, optimum results only come with that proper "posting" of the front leg, allowing the hips to properly turn as you mentioned. I quickly realized why my power and speed were so much lower than I expected, and this video helped me finally put it all together. The combined technique and control made it surprisingly easy to generate a lot more speed and power. Thanks, Tom!

Have had the opportunity to play golf with Robin Byrd from the Senior tour here in Pompano FLA. It’s amazing to watch him hit the ball and play golf. That’s why I watch you and go to the range. I shoot around 75 and shot a round of 71 a few months ago playing with him. Hey Tom, love your videos, bought your online lesson package. This has helped me tremendously in transitioning my swing to a more consistent swing and taught me a lot about the golf swing. I have 1 point that I feel like no one talks about when it comes to “swing like hogan” or any of the other old greats (Knudson, Snead). They swung flat lie angled clubs, about 4-6 degrees flat, with stiff shafts and heavy club heads. Wouldn’t changing our gear to what they swung, help use swing more like them? New modern clubs are light and have upright lie angles. This hinders use to swing flat and FEEL the club in our swing. Look up John Erickson or Bradley Hughes, they have brought up these points.

I appreciate your kind words regarding the school and I'm very glad to learn of your progress! With regard to your equipment-related question, I'm a big advocate of golfers getting their clubs professionally fitted. To begin with, we're all unique in our physical attributes (arm length, leg length, torso length, hand size, etc.), so there is no reason that we should try to fit our respective swings to a stock grip size, shaft length, flex, swing weight, lie angle, etc. So first and foremost, let's have the equipment accommodate us and not vice versa. Beyond that, we can then explore different lie angles, shafts, swing weights, etc. to really dial the equipment into our swing. Some accomplished players in the school advocate for single-length clubs, so there's yet another potential option to add to the mix. My own fitting session was a real eye-opener to me, and it's documented in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xp2c-oYQRVI.html Keep up the great work!! Tom PS: By the way, have you joined the SagutoGolf Members Forum (which is included with the online school) yet and begun engaging with other golfers in the school? Wow this is so well explained. This is exactly what I have discovered the last couple of years but seems to go against what others teach so I keep experimenting and making myself worse and I have to tell myself to keep my weight forward. I had no idea Ben Hogan did this. This is going to help so much to understand what the hips are doing and why this works. Thank you!

Unfortunately, Thomas, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Mr. Hogan delivered phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! The key is to put more weight on the lead leg side. I was thinking the weight shift happens after the downswing starts. Thats too late. It makes a HUGE difference if you start to put more weight on your front leg from the beginning. Thanks, Tom and Ben.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
Absolutely! It really does simplify things, right? The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. Can you have some transfer of pressure into the trail side in the takeaway? Yes - as long as you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball. But you best be back into your lead side by time you get to the transition. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. Thanks for your comment and keep up the great work! Hello Mr Saguto. Watching your channel for the past 5 or 6 months have taken me from the high 90s flirting with getting into the 80s... last night was golf league night and we only play 9 holes... after 6 holes from the amateur tees I was -1 after 6 holes 2 birdies, 3 pars and 1 bogey... next 3 holes... double bogey, triple bogey... par... Never in my life has a game come together like that ... NEVER!! Lets address the par 3 triple bogey. I got into the extra fluffy green side ruff and my wedge went under the ball popped it straight up and then the ball landed in the same spot only now deep instead of stting up... long story short... 3 over on a par 3, that really hurt. Any tips on hitting a ball when it is sitting up on fluffy green side ruff?... and then how to hit a ball deep in fluffy green side ruff? Thank you so much for your videos because my game is noticeably better and it is more fun!

Wow - that's some phenomenal improvement over a very short amount of time... Nicely done!! 💪💪 Did you happen to watch any of the US Open this past week. The same thing that you described happened to some of the best players in the world, in which the club slid under the ball and the ball popped up a few inches and came straight back down into the same spot. So you are not alone! My best advice is those difficult situations is to take what the lie will give you. If there's a chance that the club might slide under the ball, then choke down on it and do all you can to make contact with the ball and at least get it on the putting surface. A 2-putt bogey is a lot better than a double or worse. Beyond that you will find all my short game instruction in my online school. Have you looked into it yet? It may be the result of not getting enough weight moving forward in the downswing (while keeping the upper torso and head in place to preserve the swing center). Here's a recent episode on this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dB4ItR3guGU.html There's an entire section of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Hey, Tom..great video..am I correct in thinking that if there were a post next to your left leg when you start, at the point where your left butt-pocket was pushed furthest left in the backswing it would knock into it? Certainly looks that way in the great video from behind(npi)? It seems way left of where I was thinking a 'full' pivot would take me..trying this, it feels a bit like a corkscrew coil/uncoil..looking forward to implementing it, thanks!

Hey Tom, I really have appreciated all of your videos. I have swayed in the golf swing my whole life and your the first person to teach a simple swing that allows me to be more centered over the ball. I am not sure if you remember the Natural golf swing taught by Moe Norman but this seems to have alot of the same mechanics and most people consider him to be the greatest ball striker ever. Thanks again!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
I am quite familiar with Mr. Norman and his legendary ball striking prowess, John. There are some similarities between his style and the Stack and Tilt system I teach as they both share the one-plane feature, but there are some definite differences as well. Regardless, eliminating the sway and centering your swing is going to result in noticeable improvements in ball striking, consistency, and having a repeatable shot shape, and it's ultimately going to give you more distance as well. To assist you with that, here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the swing in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Have fun out there!! Tom excellent video. I am assuming the weight is say 60:40 on the left. In the transition do you ever put weight on the right side?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Martin! No - I do not advocate any shift into the trail side at the transition as that will cause a drift in our low point and swing center, which must then be precisely compensated for in the downswing if there is any hope for consistently crispy contact - a fleeting endeavor at best. In this swing system you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. This enables the golfer to "clear" while keeping the club moving on the proper in-to-out path. There's no shifting back and forth, and the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. Here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Tom

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Yes, Joe, and I actually demonstrate this with the driver later in the video. It’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7fmtzyH3rsA.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLjwU_1Cc7o.html If you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. At 5.00 when you show the swing, your right elbow does not appear to be tucked into your chest. In some earlier videos on Hogan’s swing, you mentioned that the right elbow being tucked in is very important. Weight on the left foot and right elbow tucked in, tilt and turn - will be great if you can elaborate a bit on this. Thanks a lot - Sanver
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Hi Sanver, That tucked trail elbow is something that will benefit the vast majority of amateurs who are prone to steep downswing paths. That is not my tendency, but still my right elbow is facing inward in the downswing and I do get to a solid impact position. I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while providing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. You are kidding, right?......😆 300 yard drives and shooting 80 after playing for only two months is pretty much unheard of since the vast majority of amateur golfers spend an entire lifetime not accomplishing either of those, let alone both. So you really have not played at all between kindergarten and two months ago?

Hi Tom just stumbled across your channel like this drill ,question do you push lead leg from the ball of lead foot to initiate the down swing or am I missing somthing from the drill ,?thanks
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Hi @BigT - How to initiate the downswing is a loaded question because it is so dependent on individual tendencies that I cannot give a generalized answer. If I tell you that it's a lateral hip slide but your downswing already naturally has sufficient forward force, then you'll hit pushes and/or hooks all day long, and if I tell you to rotate your hips but you are already naturally applying enough outward force, then your destination is pull/slice city! I could also say the shoulders, or dropping the hands, or getting the lead arm off the chest, or rolling your trail foot targetward, or increasing pressure into the lead leg, etc. Whew! You get what I'm saying, right?.... Anyway, you may find some helpful content in this playlist of my downswing-related lesson videos - ru-vid.com/group/PLV62KxT7Mp7Jxi814RQddJx3wkHqxqhio Beyond that, here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the swing in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ TS

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Ahhh...the age-old question in search of some form of sage advice.............. I'm sorry to have to disappoint you, Brian…. First of all, ask ten different golfers and they may give you ten different answers. Secondly, the same golfer may give you a different answer this week than he gave last week depending on what he is feeling on a particular day! I'll quote the Stack and Tilt book's answer to this question: "You need a comprehensive overview of the motion to understand how to direct the various parts of the body to create the correct sequence of the swing. So consider it the brain that starts the swing. Clear intentions simplify execution." That probably doesn't help you very much, but the structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is designed to get you on the fast track towards owning this swing. This will give you that "comprehensive overview of the motion" the S&T guys are referring to, and so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. I found out this some months ago, that the feel I need is almost a reversed pivot in backswing and then push forward with hips and shoulders at downswing. When I accepted this basic thought my handicap dropped from 18 to 10 in two months.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
It's really just the "feel" of front side loading, Gustav, as there's no such thing as a reverse pivot in this swing unless you allow your weight to shift back into your trail side. i've seen a few videos from youtube instructors and pros alike where they say you need to "load the trail side" during the backswing. and you do this by shifting weight to the trail side. then you shift your weight back to towards the target to begin the downswing. is it that you have the option to make the shift forward at either phase, so long as it happens?
@perennialistperspective
@perennialistperspective 2 года назад
is it because shifting right before the downswing gives a power boost at the expense of consistency?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Hi Cale, From the perspective of the Stack & Tilt system I teach, power and consistency come from swinging in a centered circle and harnessing what is known as "angular momentum" - where physics and geometry collide to generate this tremendous force. There is no need to shift back and forth as there is no increase in speed and a loss of consistency due to a drifting low point. In fact, here's Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play." In this system we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. I understand that it may be difficult for those who have only been taught to a shift & lift swing style to comprehend, but the result is a low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and yes - tremendously powerful - swing, and I've got countless testimonials beyond just my own to speak for it. Here is a story of my "conversion" from shift & lift to Stack & Tilt: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PM8lNNrMPEk.html And here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the swing in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Tom

The netting we used is 10' x 10' golf cage impact net purchased from Amazon, and it differs from the screening material in the video. (By the way, if using a net like we did you probably won’t need the screw hooks that are mentioned in the video - bungees should suffice.) Also, I have a Real Feel 3x5 Country Club Elite® Golf Mat. Looking at your swing from the back view it appears you have a brief switch of weight to your right foot. If you are pitching a ball in order to get power you have to transfer weight from back foot to forward. Wouldn’t that be the same for a golf swing?

do all of these mechanics apply to all people of different heights/weights/strengths and male/female (assuming minimal or no physical limitations)?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Hi Scott, I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. Looking at this drill and practice, I feel the biggest difference is whether the left knee pointing inward or outward. If I see if right, are you keeping the left knee pointing to the target if not straight, so this pre-set the weight shift to be always on the left. Hogan’s left knee seems to kick in from the video, isn’t it? When I practice this drill I always feel my body leans in, spine line got pushed to the ground because I push the left knee to the target which cause outside in hit. Am I feeling it right?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Hi Steven, I do speak of Mr. Hogan's inward knee action in this video. Generally, in the swing system I teach the lead knee works straight down in the direction established at address - which should be flared slightly outward towards the target - during the backswing. This keeps the weight forward and the swing center intact. While there is some leeway for personal preference, it is still important to be aware that any inward movement of the lead knee has the potential of shifting the center and low point backwards. It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. So many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Tom I think you should clarify what a reverse pivot is and looks like compared to what you are discussing here. The hips cannot turn without weight on the right side as the leg straightens maybe a future lesson clarifying all of this would be good.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
I know it sounds like a strange concept to those who have only ever subscribed to a swing model that is based on shifting weight from back to front, Wayne, but I assure you that this swing is anything but a reverse pivot. Yours is a good question, though, because it represents an often-misconstrued notion and occasional invalid criticism of the Stack & Tilt swing system I teach, and as such I always appreciate the opportunity to respond and clarify. You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. There's no "weight shift", therefore - unless one were to fall backwards - there's nothing to reverse or pivot. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! @SagutoGolf 2 года назад
That's awesome, Dane!! Welcome aboard - I'm very glad to know that you are enrolling!! Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start in the school: 1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this. 2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down. 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf 4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it! I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level!
