I've been threatening you with this video for weeks now so...let's do it LET'S START MY PATH TO BECOMING A BRAND SPOKESPERSON FOR SOMETHING TRULY IMPORTANT TO ME AND THE WORLD!!! METAMUCIL...CALL ME MAYBE!
Okay, Hank. It’s been roughly a year now of daily Metamucil and it’s actually helped me deal with my own ulcerative colitis tremendously. Like, I can actually stay for the whole duration of a lab and lecture class (3.5 hrs) and not need to abruptly leave the classroom. So thank you, hank.
I thought he was going to be sarcastic about a brand deal he turned down for some pseudoscientific pill with wild claims. I was wrong. This was a genuine "change your life" type of thing. Thanks for reminding me to buy this stuff, Hank, because my doctor told me to last week and I totally forgot to.
It balances the softness and hardness. If your poo is too creamy it’ll harden it a little. If it’s too hard, it will soften it. I love it. I have good, one-shot poops. One wipe is usually all that’s needed. You feel lighter and more energetic. Also, your poop doesn’t stain the bowl nearly as much.
verdatum It must be true because no no one has refuted it. Are we supposed to sit on the half eaten donut that Hank threw out or do I buy a new rusty hammer donut? What flavor do you suggest?
As a nurse, I wholeheartedly concur. Our digestive system is linked to so many issues and keeping it healthy will keep the rest of your body as healthy as it can be. Metamucil is likely really good for you due to the colitis. The majority of people will benefit because we eat too much meat, processed foods and sugar. Loving your candour.... Keep up the sensational work.
@@Natalie-101 Aw, thank you!! Parenting is never easy, I'm sure, but the pandemic has certainly been an added challenge :( So thank you for the virtual support!
@@PurpleMintSam She's wonderful! As difficult as pregnancy is (on the topic of this video, Miralax was super helpful), we've both stayed in good health, and now the little one is climbing onto all the furniture, figuring out small puzzles, and waving at everyone she sees ^_^
My husband has had issues for a couple of years now that have really affected his quality of life. I took your recommendation here to heart and got him some Metamucil. It is absolutely making a big difference. Thank you so much for posting this apart from any sponsorship deal. I never would have thought that gross drink my mom used to take would be anything I should be picking up at the grocery store. How wrong I was.
Ok. So. Hank. Here’s the thing. I actually FOUND you and John via IBD. I have Crohn’s, and when Asacol’s patent expired and the manufacturer literally rebranded the exact same med by slipping it into a capsule and giving it a new name. They said something like ‘marketing studies indicated patients preferred the encapsulated formulation’ and I.WAS.OUTRAGED. And somehow google’s algorithm was good enough at the time to lead me to you. And I love almost everything you do online and also for the universe. And OH MY GOSH HANK YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT THIS TOO. YOU GUYS LISTEN TO HANK. GET THE METAMUCIL. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
this is the best form of anti-clickbait i’ve seen in a while. i thought it was gonna be something ironic, but i ended up waltzing right up to hank green’s happiness creating poop covered hill, and i’m glad that i ended up here at 5am
Psyllium husk is also available at your local health food store. Without the additives and artificial coloring. That is the fiber that this product provides.
Been taking your advice since the day after this was posted (bout a month right now) and I've lost about 20 pounds and feel more energetic :D Was not expecting this to work so well! Thanks for the heads up!
I am 41 and for around 2 years my bowel movements have been below average (random/soft/hard/annoying in general). This inspired me to try it and within only 2 days I am feeling comfortable again! Although it doesn't feel sexy to me yet. I am extremely thankful for this upload.
Every morning as a a kid while I ate breakfast before school I would watch my dad drink a glass of Metamucil with a Fiber-One brownie. I didn't know what it was for the overwhelming majority of these mornings and even if I did I wouldn't have ever thought twice about it. But now, I have been enlightened. Thank you Hank.
I, uh, know someone very high up at P&G. She was a coworker of my dad's when he was a product manager there 25 years ago and she has climbed the corporate ladder. Maybe I'll send this video to her :P
I just looked up her position, she's *really* high up, even higher than I thought. but also in charge of a totally different field. I don't know how well it'll work. I would also have to go through my dad since I'm not exactly in touch with her (but he still is), explaining this will be a little weird and confusing I think.
Gavers23 She just needs to send an email to the right people and it will be from on high! I realise life does not work in the way of RU-vid comments though (for which I think we can all be thankful). If you think you can do it, go for it, otherwise, we will find a way!
I don't think I have that kind of sway with her. If she finds it amusing she might pass it along. I think the most convincing I'd have to do is with my dad to send it to her. (Or I can randomly send her a message on FB)
This inspired me not only to add Metamucil to my shopping list, but also to do other things I know might not be the most fun and sexy now, but will make me happier to have done later. (For example, I immediately left this video and finished a boring project that I needed to do and am so happy to be done with). So, I really genuinely appreciate this.
Saying for the props and to keep this video popping up in peoples feeds! I was 15 when i first used the stuff due to fissures. Its stopped me from undergoing invasive surgery, and i can safely say that it was because of the addition to my diet. Currently not taking it, and this video reminded me of how much better my body acted. Luv ya Hank, Would love a revision of this video, maybe a TikTok version for getting this healthy word out there! I know it would of prevented 2 decades of issues if i started using it beforehand!
👋🏼 Hi, Hank. I feel like I’m part of the “maybe too much fiber??” camp. Being vegetarian and dairy-free and having the bulk of my food be veggies and fibrous grains/proteins, I sometimes feel like I could stand to lay off the fiber a bit. Really glad you’re out there taking a positive stance on fiber, though! In the right quantities, that shit’s magic!
yeah same here but actually it's not 100% diet, whenever my life falls apart my IBS gives me all the problems because of anxiety from the situation, even though I'm still eating my perfectly tailored vegetarian vegan wannabie diet and suddenly the psylium husk helps because it's both soluble and insoluble fiber (and I have mixed IBS)
Yeah, I've found that psyllium actually helps a lot with high-fiber diets; like Hank says, it works for both extremes :) Psyllium is soluble fiber, so helps act as a binder for all the insoluble fiber from the veg you're consuming.
I tend to soak chia seeds in water and drink that in order to get some extra fiber soluble in my diet. I also regularly have oatmeal as well for the same reason.
Phyillium husks help lower glycimic index an helps remove toxins trapped in the colon. It is healthy for all to have. No matter how healthy we are, we all have toxins in our bodies. If you have wheat allergies, then obviously you CAN NOT have it.
Hank, just started fiber! When I got the advice, I immediately thought of this video and it helped me feel *slightly* less weird about being a younger person in the fiber care aisle.
Wow! Now, my algorithm is anticipating what I need. This video after the chronic illness and colonoscopy ones. Although I do have to wonder why it waited this long....🤔 Hank, you're the best at talking about these things that some of us were raised to be embarrassed about. I'm glad that bubble is finally being burst. People can't make good decisions without the right information. Understanding our bodies, how they work, and what they need is a big deal in keeping them healthy. Much love from the almost alternate reality of 2023! (Trust me, no one predicted this. Some came close, but this story arc left for places no one has gone before awhile ago🖖)
Speaking as a human with an adjacent autoimmune condition to Hank's (Crohn's Disease in my case) you truly don't know the value of a good poop until it's gone. I'm all in for promoting psyllium husk supplements of any brand! 😂
We autoimmune sufferers know what it means to value life in retrospect, don't we?! As someone with rheumatoid arthritis, I only vaguely remember what life was like before pain. Funnily enough, I'm more grateful for every agonizing moment now than I ever was for a pain-free moment in my youth. I may have lost the ability to feel comfort, but I gained perspective along the way. Wishing you good health and good poops.
I decided to try Metamucil after watching this video when it first came out. I also suffer from Ulcerative Colitis, so when Hank recommended this I was very curious if it would help me. IT REALLY WORKS and, like Hank, I tell everyone I can about how much better I feel drinking Metamucil every day. Thank you, Hank, it changed my life for the better.
Hank, thank you. I had major abdominal surgery for fibroids a couple of years ago, and never got my gut back afterwards. Developed food sensitivities I'd never had before, and just overall not resilient. This past Christmas I ate just a few more "treats" (sensitive foods) than usual and ended up with a totally broken gut in January. Two months of feeling truly awful and trying everything. PPIs, SIBO diet etc... Y'know what worked? Meta-friggin-mucil. I'm not just pre-holiday better, but starting to feel like old-self better. Thanks buddy.
I keep thinking there is going to be someone sitting at a desk at Proctor &Gamble later this week looking at numbers.... " huh.. Metamucil sales really spiked after Monday...." Hopefully they can trace it back to you Hank!
Alright fellow Cincinnati friends. Let’s march on the P&G headquarters to get Hank a brand deal. (And by “let’s” I mean you because I can’t march in a wheelchair)
Hank, you would be a swellerific spokesman for Metamucil. I've had fiber supplements in my cabinet for years but never used them. After my wife showed me this video on Monday night, I started taking them. Within a day and a half my life was so much better. Thank you good sir.
UPDATE!!! i sent your Metamucil vid to my mom (who works at P&G) and she forwarded it to people in the company who can hopefully make this sponsorship happen! Fingers crossed we get the ball rolling on the Hank Green x Metamucil sponsorship!
Now I want a video of Hank on a roof shouting, "IF YOU HAVE GOOD POOPS, YOU'LL HAVE A GOOD LIFE!" But I also feel like that might be a bad idea... could be a punishment..
My Name my personal favourite is still "What Boys look for in Girls" on the Vlogbrothers channel, which is also a Hank video. If any RU-vid video wants to beat that, it would have to be really, really, really, extremely good and socially critical. But hey, to each their own favourite Hank video... :D
xzonia1 explaining your poos might be a little much, and instead of being an a** (no pun intended) I'd like to politely tell you that you should never post that much detail about your bowels in a public forum unless it's Medical!
Hi Hank, just a medical FYI people with Gastroparesis roughly 5 million people and people with colonic inertia and digestive tract paralysis should not consume fiber , fiber supplements etc.. Metamucil would be potentially catastrophic for many of these people. I’ve been living with Gastroparesis for nearly 11 years and would like you to know that we exist and can’t do fiber without terrible side effects. Don’t forget, everyone IS different and no one thing is good for All people. Much love from a Gastroparesis having, no fiber consuming fan .
with the above mentioned illness's fiber makes you LESS likely to be able to poop, defecation with these conditions can be very difficult and most often require cholinergic medications and extremely modified diets.
Funny thing is, I have IBD (ulcerative colitis) as well as gastroparesis. BOTH of those chronic illnesses have rendered me unable to tolerate fiber. I'm surprised Hank enjoys metamucil since he has ulcerative colitis too & most doctors recommend patients with IBD avoid fiber bc it makes the common symptom of diarrhea much worse. I have the severe form of the disease & had my colon yanked out 5 years ago. Combined with gastroparesis, I'm on a permanent diet of basically bread, meat & dairy (thankfully I'm not lactose intolerant) & CANNOT eat fruits or veggies unless they're cooked down into mush! Just goes to show that everyone is different & there's no universal way to live! ;)
RU-vid ate my reply to a different comment so I'm adding on here: Metamucil was prescribed to me once before a colonoscopy to induce diarrhea (they want your intestines clear before the exam, so you spend the entire day beforehand on the toilet!) which was the WRONG thing for someone with chronic diarrhea & bleeding ulcers!! It seriously almost killed me. I ended up in the ER with severe dehydration, bloody diarrhea, & could not stop vomiting. TMI maybe, but good to know! The FDA doesn't factor chronic illness & dietary restrictions into their "suggested" amounts, but truthfully the idea of universal recommendations for everyone is BS!
truth that everyone is different , I have Gastroparesis and have for 11+ years and fiber stops me up so badly that I have to be hospitalized. So my comments were from my and many of my fellow spoonies experiences with colonic inertia with Gastroparesis. because the intestines can also be effected, not just the stomach and stomach muscles.
Four years later, this came up in my autoplay today while unpacking the dishwasher. I bought some metamucil a few months ago intending to try it (after Hank's praises), and seeing this video again motivated me to actually go try some. I got the orange stuff, it actually tastes surprisingly good, and the texture is much better than I recall it being from when I last tried this sort of thing a decade ago. Let's see how this goes :)
Try also Kefir. Look for the ones that have 10 bacterial cultures. Caution - drink only a small amount each day. When I first tried it it changed my intestinal flora so dramatically I had to learn how to [$&!^] all over again.
No joke had the worst shit before watching this video, now I'm gonna drive to the store and buy Metamucil before this Chipotle wreaks havoc on my innards
There's also inulin fiber, which is not only an insoluble fiber, it's also a prebiotic, so it provides food for your intestinal flora. Like with Metamucil, you would be improving your digestion by taking it - but also improving the health of your microbiome in the process.
I watched this video a long time ago. I didn't care. Now I'm 24, with IBS and very bad anxiety. And it was honestly ruining my life. Stomach cramps, weight loss, dehydration, fatigue, nausea, join clicking, sole pains etc etc AND IM ALREADY VEGAN I have PSYLLIUM HUSK everyday now. I'm healthier and happier and leading a much better quality of life. This is no joke.
Hank: That's why you brush your teeth in the morning. Me: *Looks around* Hank: That's why you put money into your savings Me: *Looks around faster* Hank: That's why you invest in the stock market. Me: Oh no. Hank: That's why you go to school Me: Fuuuuuu....
THANK YOU!!! It does work. it did change my life. No more hemorrhoids and i take less than 5 minutes on the toilet. AWESOME topic, awesome video, awesome channel. Thank you!
No joke. When people ask me where I get my protein I retort with "Oh you're a meat-eater? Where do you get your fiber?". Well... maybe now it'll be Metamucil.
I have a lot of stomach issues and this is 2 years old now but I've been deciding on this for a while and I'm not all the way through the video but you sold me.
As a person with an un-yet diagnosed GI thing you have sold me on trying Metamucil (or the offbrand). I am 7 months, many tests, and 1 surgery into this and I am willing to try it!
When our late cat (rip) was getting old and having trouble with constipation we mixed a bit of Metamucil in his cat food and that helped a lot, so I'm a believer
