Currently on hour 26 of a 4 day fast. Great to listen to these videos. Going in for blood work tomorrow for the first time in 2 years, crossing my fingers.

thats very cool mark. Im on day 3 but I think I will continue this one awhile longer, I havent fasted in a long time and Im enjoying it. Its interesting that you are getting blood work done immediately after a fast. I have talked my GP into letting me have a fasting insulin test but I was going to wait until my body settles a little after this fast. Im no doctor it would be interesting to hear a doctors perspective on this, did your doctor mention anything about fasting?

Heads up- your cholesterol levels may show they’re falsely elevated since getting blood drawn after that long of a fast. They say no more than 12ish hours after eating to get blood drawn if you’ve been fasting. So if they’re higher than expected, don’t panic.

Thanks for commenting on my post. I'm currently at 22.6% body fat. I'd sure like to get down to 15%. Been doing 2MAD 18:6 for the past 14 months now but I just started eating a late breakfast again 2 weeks ago. A registered dietician I work with said since I'm trying to add more muscle mass with all the weight lifting I'm doing she highly recommended I stop the 18:6 2MAD. I lost 45 lbs last year but I've been stuck at this current weight since the holidays now. Need to change things up I guess so my thought is to spread these calories out to 3 meals. I'm 54 btw.

Also a registered dietitian here and on OMAD with aerobic physical activity(brisk walk) of 30-60 minutes most days

Since keto/carnivore is a fast-mimicking diet, that plus exercise, might be a bio-hack which allows us to build muscle and "fast" at the very same time...

Thomas Delauer did a pretty comprehensive video on that subject, a few years ago. Idk if the 3x effectiveness has much scientific merit, or if it's just an urban legend. Certainly you drop a ton of water weight though.

Hi, I'm in England and trying to improve my fertility in Peri-menopause. I've had various bloods done to get an overall picture of my egg reserve and I want take DHEA but it's illegal over here. I've started taking 100mg pregnenolone in the hope it will boost my DHEA. I have started to feel better since starting it but not sure it'll boost DHEA. Do you know any other ways this can be done without actually taking DHEA? Many thanks

What do you recommend for fasting that I am a 56-year-old woman. I usually follow Dr. Mindy Pelz’s advice. I do her 5-1-1. Five days of IF, one longer fast and one day no fast.

There have been recent studies (I haven't kept the references, but DeLauer a video) showing that you CAN get all your protein in one meal, and it just takes longer to digest. As for me, I prefer to limit the amount in a meal to keep my blood sugar down (which is probably more from the fat that comes with it, but iiwii.) The benefit of the compressed window is obviously limiting the insulin spike(s).

Any tips on increaseling my TDEE? Im 5'11" 260lbs. Walk about 9-10k steps per day. So far it seems to be about 2200 calories/day. I'm going to the gym now so I believe it's mainly low due to lack of muscle

Your TDEE seems like it would be a little higher with that activity and weight already. You’re probably burning about 150 per mile and close to 5 miles. That’s on top of a BMR that’s probably hovering a little over 2000. My recommendation would be to add some lean muscle mass, and maybe consider a weight vest during any dedicated walking time.

As for fasting, you need high protein during your non-fasting period and you need to do compound resistance training during your fast to avoid losing skeletal muscle. Otherwise, it's not an issue. PS: Increase in human GH helps prevent loss, but if you don't use it, you lose it.

As a very healthy lean almost 52 YO female DHEA immediately affected my hair - started losing hair around my hairline and massively increased shedding. Was not appropriate for me.

I lost 18 kgs / 39 lbs doing OMAD. No macro counting or weighing anything. The key was to find what would sustain me for 23 hours without kcal intake. NEAT, with resistance training - done in micro bouts throughout the day - WHICH IS A MUST to help at minimum preserve muscle and at best build some - which I did and NO specific cardio was done. I doubt my steps breached 5000 on a daily basis. It worked for me - but there is no guarantee it would work for anyone else. When tracked which was rare - my intake comprised of 60% fat and 20% each from carbs and Protein. Not doing OMAD atm - no need, that said slipping into eating that way, is so easy to do. Helps when travelling.
