THIS MAKES ME ANGRY! Testing 3 Discovery Craft Kits Volcano, Lava Lamp, Experiments Cash or Trash?

This is probably the worst craft kit I have ever reviewed. Discovery craft kits are supposed to have a STEM designation to help education while having fun. Volcano DIY, Laval Lamp, and experiments. Are these worth your cash? Or do they go IN DA TRASH?

Its all a freaking moneymaking scheme. No thought or care goes into these kits and I expect nothing more from a network that, for the past 15 years, has lost millions of loyal viewers and rotted from the inside out. These kits reek of desperation and sadness... And all the salty tears we've collectively cried over Discovery Channels grave.

"bUt JaCkIe yOu DiD It WrOnG" .... no but seriously hahahah I'm pretty sure the powders were suppose to stay in the paper towel so you have time to fill it, close it and maybe put on paper and see the bag explode onto it making splatters or how they say "art"
@aQuayQuay

Maybe this, and the paint is supposed to stick to the paper towel and later when it's dry there's a design. Either way, super confusing instructions and a crappy kit.

“What’s your favourite educational show growing up?” 1. The Joy of Painting 2. Bill Nye the Science Guy 3. Professor Iris 4. The Magic School Bus In that order. Edit: after much consultation I would also like to add 5. Reading Rainbow (more literature based but a great program) 6. Mr. Dressup 7. Me. Rogers The last two for teaching citizenship and helping to hopefully mould kids into good people.

Dollar Tree. Find out when the truck comes in or just drop by regularly. Jennifer Mowen has some wonderful hauls. Including the kids blindbags and things. She tends to know the prices at other stores too. There's quite a few little science kits around too. As well as some art kits for kids. Or if you have a 12,000+ foot store you'll get the new huge craft section that is absolutely amazing. It has all kinds of wooden things to paint and kids paint in a 8oz bottle. Although it is tempera paint. I'd prefer acrylic myself. Which they have but Walmarts apple barrel is half the cost. They've also had some mini Barbie toys n dolls as well. If you want science toys look for the test tube sets. They're really neat if you can find them anyway. Or you could look online for household experiments for kid, or get a book, then get the needed supplies to go with it.

As a mum, I've learned the hard way that "Discovery" is cheap crap to avoid 😭 Edit: Just agreeing with Jackie, here. I've gotten a lot of "Discovery" brand items, both purchased and as gifts. My overall impression is of a company trying to do pretty awesome things, but as "economically" as they can. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. But it's ALWAYS (in my experience) been fragile or flimsy materials that, at best, just won't last long (that's assuming they did what was needed to begin with.) Again, just my experience.

Me and my dad used to watch them together after work! ❤ These kits reminded me of those "discovery STEM sciencey" crystal growing kits you always see in the craft sections, you should definitely try those because I've always wanted to but don't want to WASTE MY MONEY!!!

As always, THANK YOU for testing so many different kits. I send my sisters Discovery kits all the time as gifts. But they never really tell me if they enjoyed them or not. The only one that I remember my girls loving was a geode kit that you smack the rocks with a hammer and see what's inside. Thank you for letting us know that these kits are simply not worth the money.

When I was a kid, there was this show about a prince and a princess lost in a strange wood. (Was it a wood? I remember a lake. Anyway XD ) A witch captured them and every episode she would give them a task, and then they would summon the ghost of Sir Isaac Newton, who'd teach them physics through simple DIY experiments and help them complete the task before the witch was back. It was a lovely show.

My daughter got a great volcano kit for her forth birthday. It started with making the volcano out of a paper mache type substance (it was like cloth dipped in plaster). Then when that was dry she painted it. Finally, we mixed the baking soda and vinegar to do the eruption. Lots of playability. ☺️

Considering that I’m a child of the 60’s there really wasn’t a great deal of educational tv, but PBS always had and still has great educational programming. Also I think the STEM stuff has to do with the poster type things that come in the kit so as you do it you can read while your doing it,and also they prob don’t say anything because they want you to do it and then by observation question and make a hypotheses and look it up and do research why the stuff happened like an actual experiment so I like these.
