Too late,is completely overrun with tourism. Was there nine years ago.Nice too stay for a week. Check the Long Beach. There is shack after the shack and guesthouse are everywhere. The sea food is very good.In the beach the bars rent you the bad and per hours and expensive. Still if you are with the bike you can find nice places. One more paradise lost. There is international airport too.

I've been and it's extremely boring, polluted, way overpriced and littered with trash. If you're getting info from YT, you're getting fake news. Read what Vietnam's own VN Express has written about Phu Quoc. "Once a top tourist attraction, Phu Quoc has been suffering from a crisis in recent months as tourists voted with their feet due to soaring airfares, exorbitantly priced hotels and other scams." Worst place ever.

@@user-jshsd2 That's interesting. So you are saying to not put much faith into travel RU-vidr's reviews? That does make sense. If one is a travel YT influencer, they are going to want to say great things about almost anywhere so they can show that they give great reviews so other establishments will want a review from them too. Free lodging and food, free of charge for a free positive review.

I stayed a few years back at the best western premier on the west side of the island and remember it was insanely cheap to live a 5 star life style. The beach though was not clean I believe if you stay on the east side where JW Marriott is the beach would be cleaner . I remember the sunset city condos were under construction didn’t think they would ever finish cause it was dead the pandemic really wiped the island out . Good to see they finished most the project looks amazing hopefully they fill it all up . That island does big domestic tourist business but I see direct flights now from Korea , Taiwan , Hong Kong and Bangkok so hopefully things get booming It would be sad to see it turn into a ghost town the Sun group have spent billions and Vingroup the same goes for Vingroup on the north side of the island.

There’s so much more to discover in South East Asia, Indonesia has over 17,000 islands for example, I’ve been to just six of them. There’s Raja Ampat, in the heart of the coral triangle. Who’s heard of the Riau Islands, there’s over 1,000 of them, some say it’s the new Maldives of S.E.Asia, it’s south east of Phu Quoc. Thanks Greeny for highlighting, will visit one day!

Aloha, Greeny. Another informative video. This place looks amazing 🤩. It’s now on my list to stay long term. I like your comparison to Phuket for scale. Being that Phu Quoc is a new area real estate prices and rentals will be cheap. Dang Btw. There’s cane juice all over Thailand. I guess you haven’t seen those stands with the stacks of crushed canes outside. Cane juice is very tasty but be careful it’s still high sugar too so if you’re diabetic it’ll raise your levels quite a bit.

The people are in fact friendlier than in Thailand. I didn’t think that was possible. The transportation systems in Thailand are better in my opinion, but Uber or bolt and grab work well. The food is great, but street food isn’t as plentiful as Thailand. I think it’s a bit cheaper for comparable housing in Vietnam. This is my personal experience in Danang. If you go to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, it might be different.

Have lived in a house we built in Phetchaburi 20 years ago ( a small city in S Thailand founded around 500 AD). I go back and forth from Houston as I still work full time there. No pollution in Phetchaburi (150 km S of BKK). Don't understand the heat (grew up in Miami where we had no air conditioning-it is cooler than either Miami or Houston). Love to go to BKK-the pollution doesn't register and it is fun and outstanding medical care. Having spent a great deal of time in China I don't understand these descriptions of pollution in BKK-it is a different horrible reality in China. Bottom line, if you live like a westerner in Thailand, it is expensive. Otherwise, amazingly cheap.

The only visa they have for long term is 3 months e visa so have to do a border run and must leave the country before you reapply for the online e visa again. As far as I know you can keep reapplying for the 3 months visas. Other way to stay long term would be a temporary residence card for 2 years for people that are working or create a business there . The last way is to marry a local and again get 2 year temporary resident card or a 5 year visa exemption where you need to leave every 6 months . It would be good if they did create a retirement visa as I can see a lot of elderly liking to park themselves there for a long time . The international hospital by Vingroup is new and has everything but make sure you have money or insurance to go there . The local government hospitals there are dirt cheap but would be a scary experience but better then nothing

Perfect 👍. No traffic jams or crowded beaches. I can go to pattaya for that everyday

Please take a few mins to learn proper pronunciation. Just ask the locals! (try "phu wok" - the q is all but forgotten and made into a 'w' sound in the southern dialect) And there is no town called 'Phu Quoc'. The main town is Dương Đông ("Yuong Dong" is the closest I can type as to how to say it.)

China ghost city feeling in due time? Gotta at least be backed by China anyway.... maybe it'll catch on with them... be like a cheap Florida/Hawaii for them. A 1-2 yr follow up will be interesting... bookmark this 1

Seems crazy to me to build a whole city,or town,in one go. A recipe for disaster,in my opinion. My guess, these are smart cities,so wait for 24/7 tracking,5g antennas on every street, social credit score, and not allowed to travel out of the city except with 'permission'. Also stands out like in sore thumb in Vietnam. Not a fan at all. Imagine the carbon footprint of building this thing.

Phu Quoc, and I've been there, is simply the worst example of tourism development in South East Asia. The locals have been dislocated, the hotels are empty and the architecture are absurd cliches of European architecture. The beaches are very dirty. He must have gotten comped his room to do this video or is in their pay in some way. I live in Saigon and travel in the region regularly, I go to Thailand for vacation. The beaches are clean and the food is way better. Phu Quoc is awful.

I didn’t get comped. Just went because it’s so cheap now. I feel bad that locals are displaced. If you think that hasn’t happened in Thailand do a little research on Phuket. I get what you’re saying though. It is odd.

Don't know how you love Phu Quoc. It's the worst place I've ever been to in my life and I live in Vietnam. There's nothing to that place. Not sure why you're hyping it. I guess you just pump out videos for ads. Go to the night market and show everyone what a joke it is. Make sure to show the torn up street nearby. Low prices? lol. Wrong. Hotels cost me average of $200/night for nothing special. I really don't like Phuket, but it blows away Phu Quoc in every aspect times 20.

You should have stayed where I did. 300 for a week in a brand new 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the water. I like uncrowded places and beautiful beaches. Sorry your experience was bad. I’ve been there twice and love it. At least from watching this video I’m “pumping out” you may know how to save money there. It’s a great value if you do the research. Next vid will be yours of the condos

SE Asia. The funny thing is you are more likely to get food poisoning at a nice restaurant than a street stall. Or so I hear. That’s per Anthony Bourdain rip
