One of the most forgotten Medieval castles in England is Kirby Muxloe Castle. It is a remarkable ruin that was never damaged or attack during civil war, but instead was never finished. If it had been finished, then it is likely that it would have been one of the most beautiful in the whole of the country. However things took a dark turn for the castle a few years after building commenced. During the Wars of the Roses, the man who commissioned the building William, Lord Hastings was a good friend of King Edward IV. He was rewarded with lots of land, but after Edward IV's death Richard III ordered his execution.
Lord Hastings was dragged out of a meeting with Richard III and was then taken out of the Tower of London and was executed by an axeman. But following this, Kirby Muxloe Castle was abandoned.
