I am very sorry for my actions, comparing one player to another is not a good thing, I'm very sorry to everyone who were harmed about the things i said, especially to the one i compared to. And you're right about the apologies that i wrote on my profile, it was all rushed and i didn't know what i was saying. I realized that the apologies on my profile did not look good with the 'twitter' thing and does not look sincere, but that was too late change. I may be missing something but this is all i could think of. Again, i am very sorry for my actions.

As a Filipino, I feel a lot of second hand embarrassment.

A bit of perspective to the "joke", as someone who spend a decent amount of time in Filipino gaming communities and is a Filipino my self. Comparing ranks or bragging about it is very common. Obviously, it is toxic behaviour to do such thing, but in the Filipino gaming communities most people shrug it of as a joke and almost everyone anonymously agree that it is "humour". Which is why I kind of understand Speed's condescending tone in his/her apology.

Kibitz: "You made a mistake, move on from it" Petty mfs in the mania community: "oh hell nah boy we are going to remind speedskilled of this 24/7 he just ended the world bro" but i agree to what you said speedskilled is clearly in the wrong

This is what you'll be if you become really good in a game when you just started out. You end up being an inexperienced high-ranked kid boasting how good you are and believes that rank = skill with no respect to lower ranked players whatsoever.

Personally, his apology looked like he wanted to just quickly wanted to move on from the situation. Thing is, that almost always backfires, and people can sense when you're disingenuous. Also, since when did rank matter? I have been in the top 2000 for 3 years and that doesn't make me feel any more better than the people above me in skill (sometimes at least).

Very well said. There is a lot more to the game then just rank and it’s pretty unfortunate that this kind of toxicity happened. Sure someone may be a 4 digit but that doesn’t mean they’re actually “4 digit skill”.

I agree completely with this video. Despite being an Osu STD player, rank doesn’t determine your level of skill, fully. I for one realised this when playing a multi lobby for fun, where many different types of maps are picked. I am rank 35k globally and there was this 6 digit, around rank 100k, completely destroying some of the higher rank players in the lobby. At first I thought he was cheating, or an offline player, but when I looked at his playtime on his profile, he accumulated 80 days total playtime. I for one was a rank 35k, but only had 15 days of playtime. This made me realize how different it is from playing multiple skill sets and putting a lot of time is as compared to completely playing the game for rank whilst only using one mod.

I’m not even a 4 digit, but I can definitely understand the frustration I find it funny that in my case I suffer the opposite, where I can read high nps and my eyes can follow it fine, but I can’t move my hands fast enough :( I’ll just stick to high Acc 4*

Depends on the rank difference… I’m a 6 digit in standard (well used to be one day ago) and I’ve beaten people 30k ranks above me but I know that if I were to face someone who is 4 digit or high 5 digit then I’d get my ass whooped no matter if they were a dirty farmer or not.

Nps is not equal to difficulty, but what about total notes divided by duration, then divide the answer by the amount of keys (like 4k, 7k)

Actually i dont care about prior experience when it comes to tournaments. For example for the germam owc team there is a country wide tournament anyone can sign up to to compete for the german teams spots in owc.

im like 96k (osu!std) but i think im just a little bit better than what my rank would suggest. sometimes i get the urge to set a score like once a month, but it usually ends in failure and i just go back to playing the game like i was before. playing songs i like, chillin, or maybe even playing certain maps out of my skill range to try and improve. in this situation, it can *MAYBE* apply to the 4 digit australian player in the video. some people like setting unranked scores or playing to get better rather than to gain pp. and thats what i do. i like to enjoy the game while also improving but i dont care for gaining pp.

Ranking would be better if chordjacks and other type of skillsets were ranked and not just BS LN and jumptrills

not really into osu!mania's community, but I really agree with the skillset stuff. Thats why I really like etterna's way of ranking, since it is based around different skillsets. It's not perfect but it's definitely better than most. looks like speed apologized for this anyways, so I hope they go on to learn from it. good video!

Rank is just a number that most of the time only shows who is the bigger farmer.

It’s not that a mania player’s rank does not indicate the player’s skill at all. Higher rank does usually indicate a player’s capability on raw skill, but raw skill is barely relevant in the earlier stages of tournaments like MWC. Accuracy, consistency and memorisation all play way more important roles in earlier rounds. Therefore, mocking our captain (who was decided to be our captain not due to his skills, but his experience in tournament logistics and team organisation) on the basis of his raw skills to judge our entire team’s capability in the tournament is less of being rude really, but more of being misinformed or simply ignorant. This incident did kind of boost our team spirit though ;)

Although i am from the standard community we have seen this kind of attitude amongst top players too. For example a player from Belgium was so fucking toxic abiut rank etc that he got BANNED for it (he was rank 74 peak and number one country by over a thousand ranks). He was also not allowed to join the 2019 roster cause of that attitude, so this is sadly not new to me.

tbh 4k maps are mostly more difficult as 7k. sure 1:35 looks rly impressive but for such stream maps you just have to spam as fast as possible. try to do the same thing on a 4k map which got a 10 or 15 star rating. you'll see it's a lot more difficult. Edit: more fingers does not mean more difficult. who is already used to writing with 10 fingers (ok 8 + 2 thumbs) will not have any great difficulties with 5k - 9k. in addition, you get significantly higher kps with more fingers, which makes it less impressive.

Kinda sad cuz it's not even like rank doesn't equal skill is a new concept, its something that literally anyone who has put any amount of time in this game knows.

i feel so sorry for people who experience the toxicity of my own country and i hope you guys can forgive the toxic filipinos you meet, its just that almost every filipino are competitive when it comes to games theyre good at and it reaches a point when they become toxic even to foreigners

*osu!std comment here* The thing new players dont realize, rank doesnt mean skill. Some skill sets could be underweighted as fuck. Such as EZHD, a hard mod combination (unless you are a HD main like me) that trains HD reading to the point the AR is very low and the map density is super high. On the other hand, some skill sets can be overweighted as fuck. Like HDDT, a easy mod combination (only if you are used to consistently reacting to fast circles) that trains basically nothing but getting used to high AR. And yes, you can practice speed/stamina without DT by modifying the bpm of maps with certain tools. Non HD players play HDDT as a way to farm extra pp since they can't read low AR HD. Also the density is super low. Some people might be derankers or straight up offline players (like me). As a std player, I find it way more impressive for someone to fc a crazy 400-500 pp tech map than mrekk to fc a simple 1000-1200 pp HDDTHR 270 bpm farm map. I've seen far too many players who could just fc jump farm maps for around that much pp.

Heyo quentin5110054 here from the france team, It was the first time that i did the mwc and man that was stressful , as someone who is top 550~ i can definitly say that rank isnt skill, for example lott is a 4digit and he rekt ass all day long, i dont usually do tournaments cuz i have stress issues , but they still wanted me bcz i build my reputation in the french community as a great player , even if im more knowed for playing a shit ton of ranked maps for top 50's or pp Plays or QUENTRILL QUENTRILL (fun fact i usually pp when im bored and i think there is nothing wrong with that lol 😎) , i think you guys should just play like you want and just enjoy the game like you want, play anything you want to play even if its shit like me doing some 1h maps or full jumptrill/splittrill/trill maps lol, i play like i want osu isnt meant to split ppl, we are a community. PS: i feel rly burned out of the game and i think im going to take a break, and i think some ppl should do the same before having the same problem, taking breaks is always a good thing, dont worry about your skill you'll get it back eventually, just take some time for you. IMO some people are just built different As for example some random viral YT clipper which is 300k rank in STD FC a 6* diff spike (Though with very low accuracy and it isn't that impressive tbh) he also FC's some 5* Meanwhile me with the basically same rank can't even FC some 4*, can't even pass majority of 6* One thing i am good at though, is finger control That's why i usually get better acc but way worse combo than some 5 digits on some random 5* STD map That said, i think equipment matters too, most people do be using tablets and mechanical kb nowadays and i'm only using mouse and a laptop keyboard (Which is suprisingly good lol)

4 digits back in 2017 to me are much more achievable, if I were to start with a Tablet pen... Now I had hard time passing to 5 digits... Sure I still play for improving, but nowadays it's all about Digits shit and Mrekk doing DT stuff I don't farm PP, I don't want to farm, I want to improve...
