Yes and no. When you get to a higher level of basketball coaches need to be able to draw up a play in a huddle that you`ve never practiced and have you guys go out there an run it. Constantly having that visual confirmation slows down that process of mental recall, recognition and awareness. Even at lower levels I need you to the see game as predicted cause and effect movement not plays. If I can get that though your head then it doesn`t matter what play is called you`ll know where to be based on shift and spacing. When you watch high level pro basketball 95% down the floor nothing is called, its movement and match-up based. Out of a timeout you have something drawn up but besides those situations its guys understanding this is the match-up we need to get too. This is what they are doing, how do we still get to this match-up with an advantage? This is why so many young players stop developing. You turn them into robots early on where they learn plays but never actually learn how to play basketball. The best use for the LED court would be to aid in officiating. 8 second back court timer displaying on the floor or sideline at mid court an illuminated 3 point line and sideline helping refs determine if a guys toe or foot was on the line...

@DwFritz23
@DwFritz23 9 месяцев назад
The infinet doesn't solve the problem of broken nets at park courts. The number 1 problem is vandalism, these will get vandalized also. The second problem is climate, these look like some type of plastic which will dry out and get brittle overtime also. I have a basketball goal in my backyard that is over 8 years old and it still has the original net. Which means vandalism is the number 1 issue.
@xodaraps2053
@xodaraps2053 9 месяцев назад
There needs to be a special place in hell for whoever is vandalizing all these nets. That's just wrong man.
@finkelmana
@finkelmana 9 месяцев назад
There are plenty of plastics that dont get brittle outdoors. They make benches, playsets, etc out of it and they last decades. Why would they not use that? The real problem will be boys jumping up and grabbing the "net." Will they survive people grubbing and trying to hang from them? I doubt it. And I bet its a lot more expensive to replace one of those "claws" than a net. As for vandalized nets, while it does happen, I dont think its that common. Nets do wear out, especially outdoor ones, as they tend to get used a lot more. Then when at a certain point, players will take it down, as its just in the way. The people who maintain the courts just seem to never want to fix/replace them.

@MikeP_
@MikeP_ 9 месяцев назад
Chain nets should already cover the "wear and tear" issue, however, I believe the major issue is vandalism and people would break these plastic nets just like the do with all other nets. The magnetic nets could be a fine solution, but it could be an issue for some to remove them after a playing sessions.

Plastic Claw net looks weird and the color is bad too. People like the look of a normal rope net that is white. The magnetic net could theoretically stick to the bottom, addressing the issue made in the video about adding height while also allowing you to remove it by simply pulling on the net from beneath. Application could be harder but I'm sure someone could find a solution. Because this is the real invention people want since it's still a net that people like.

The LED court is a really good idea as long as you don't go full light-explosion during a game. Maybe counting down seconds for a shot or to mark where a shooter sets before taking a shot. The main concern with any court, be it LED or wood or fabricated materials, is the 'give' or cushion it provides for players. Harder courts punish the joints, hip, and lower back. What is the LED court made of? Does the material have some give to it, like the hollow floors (that have a dead spot or two here or there)? When it comes to players' health and getting a true bounce on the dribble, the traditional hollow floor courts stand head and shoulders above the rest.

The only problem with using the court to show video during pre-game, is having the correct orientation. There are people watching from 4 different perspectives ( either side of the court & at opposite ends, behind each basket), so it's gonna be basically upside down for 75% of the crowd. But it looks amazing for everything else, 3 point line/ key, displaying player stats, fouls, also for changing the team colors and logo like when the Raptors play as the Huskies, or just when teams are wearing thier alternate jerseys. I wonder how balling on it feels in comparison to normal hardwood ( parkay)...?

I can see people getting poked, even badly by the spiked nets. Also, I can see it changing the dynamics of a sanctioned game too much. Many people use the white net as contrast to find the target. The net being gone would also change the trajectory and increase the force of the ball after a dunk, and I can see that hurting some players.

Ok I can't sit here and just disregard the plastic spike net like most are doing. Sure the sound missing would be a huge downside but it would be really nice to not have to chase a made ball ever again. Only other downside is seems like you can't throw the ball up through the hoop just messing around or practicing. But then again you could just do that on another rim. The nets and chain nets can take off fingers too probably easier than the plastic spikes I've heard of this happening to people before so it's nothing new.

I would LOVE to see an LED court during an NBA All Star game. It would almost turn the game into real life NBA Jam. Imagine the possibilities. Maybe we could even put trampolines up so we could see Damian Lillard jump 40 feet in the sky. Also we could set the ball on fire too. Yes, I was very stoned when I wrote this post.

well the purpose of the net was to make the visual que of scoring more visible. this new design looks rather hard to see, but then again I can't draw a confident conclusion from a few clips

I mean the net is a decent idea, but it needs to be a little longer or something so it's more obvious when a shot is made.

Wouldn't a simple projector be cheaper than LED floors?

The NHL uses projection technology, so the LED courts make sense to me.
