I always used API and CLA by waves, the SSL too, lately I've been using the SSL Nativev Bus Compressor 2, sounds nice on snares, I tried the VMR 2.0 and The Virtual Mix Rack, I also tried the VBC FG Grey / MU and Red, they all sounds amazing!

I absolutely love Slate products. The All Access is so cheap, the plugins are great, and they're so easy for my PC to run. I'm only getting back into audio recently after taking some time off and they've added a LOT of stuff I'd wanted. This one is another welcome surprise.

They’re cheap but if you’re in it for the long haul you’ll pay more eventually. I already own the VMR from slate so Im not sure if I should subscribe or just buy the vcc.

Man I wish this had come out last month, it would have been useful on the album I just mixed. Next one it's gonna be all over it. Slate's stuff covers most of the bases, I use them on every mix. Been really liking their LA2A and Distressor especially.

@@Producelikeapro I pretty much only use a combo of SSL Native, Shadow Hills, Elysia Alpha, Fabfilter, Softube, and some Izotope stuff. I more or less have everything because I have a sickness but it's fun. So many great plugins. Plugin Alliance and Waves love me hahaha. Cheers

I’m a big fan of Slate’s channel strip. The plug-in units themselves can be hit-and-miss, but there’s are more than enough really great, really musical units to string together a “channel” that really gets me from point A to point B quickly and with predictable results. I’ll have to try this new compressor, although I already have so many SSL comp emulations (and a real bus comp rack unit), I’m not sure how much more VCA comp I can make use of.

Been loving Slate Plugins since the first day I used them. And I produce dance and housemusic, but the pre-amps and compressors add so much beef and warmth to the tracks if used tasteful. Thanks for this video! Btw, what happened to your wrist Huart?

Question about mixing drums. Do you set the volume of the kick and snare to be the same?

Yes, to feel they are the same volume can be preferable. However, the attack is something that needs to feel even, track density can be very different from one song to another and even then there can be a lot of other factors. There isn't a one size fits all approach because you may want a different feel or groove on each song

If it uses less cpu than the new waves ssl then it’ll be considered better but for now the waves has the eq and the dynamics section in one module

So basically we have mainly two ways of using compression, one is to subtly use it to achieve our desired sound and the other is to overdo it and mix it with the original audio using the mix knob, am I correct? or are there specific situations where each method should be preferred over the other? There's definitely a lot of other ways to use compression, sometimes I like the effect of audible compression as well. Hearing the exaggerated attack can help percussive elements cut through. Ultimately I would judge each use of compression on it's own merits

One question: How do you control the attack time without a knob for it? That lovely SSL console in the back has no way to fiddle with the compression attack time? Say you want the transients to come through before the compression kicks in? Surely knee and attack time is not quite the same parameter? Edit: Well its got that "fast" button. So its FAST and "NOT FAST" hehe. Anyone know the timing of those two?

I’ve heard fast attack on a 4000E is around 1ms and slow is about 30ms. Could be wrong.

I have the slate sub and like certain plugins..but this is not one of them..everything I tried it on I had to bury the threshhold to get any real compression..that's not right and needs to be corrected by Slate..in the meantime I'll continue to use the Brainworx ssle which in my opinion is better than the waves version, even the new one.

I enjoy the Brainworx SSL compressor as well! I didn’t find I had to adjust the threshold to dramatically in order to get the kind of compression I get with my console. Are you comparing it to your experience with a real SSL or with the Brainworx plug in? Thanks ever so much

@@Producelikeapro both actually, i don’t have access to the console I used to use; but the Brainworxx is quite close and the onboard compressor reacts similar to the hardware which is way different than the slate… my opinion of course.. like I said, I like slate

I love Slate Digital products but I gave them up last year. I'm tired of the ilok bullshit. Tired of it losing licenses and having to reinstall crap and I'm tired of the dongle hogging a USB port. I'm also tired of every developer with these rent to never own plans. Wish the would sell some of their stuff à la carte. I got VTM and VBC on a perpetual license back when the still did that, but even for those I can't use them without ilok. That's why I've switched to a lot of AO's stuff lately.

I LOVE SLATE PLUGINS ! but it takes forever to load!, i think is time for separated plugin instances, VMR is a little slow on loading sessions.

I used to found they took a while, but i'm on the latest version of VMR and also importantly the latest version of the iLok software, and it's not a problem

@@Producelikeapro 16gb of ram as well. I believe it’s simply due to to it being an all in one dell. (No base tower) but comparable to other plugins (fabfilter, waves, Arturia, any other channel strip plugins) slate by far takes the longest to load, usually between 30 sec to a minute to load an instance of VMR

I tried it out as I have the Slate All Access. I wasn't impressed at all. The new Waves SSL EV2 blows this away in my opinion.

Not a fan of this production style, especially the guest using Reaper. This encapsulates everything wrong with modern production. Everything was processed to hell. I refer to it as “plastic music”. Many modern pop songs sound like this and it really is killing music.

There's three different approaches, one focus in on the one you don't like? Have you ever watched this channel? It does everything from Orchestra, Jazz, Classic Rock, edm and everything in-between. What I love is it brings everyone together as opposed to the usual superior 'back in my day' talk. All great music was blend of all elements

@@Producelikeapro I'm a regular watcher of your videos and have learned a lot from your channel. I'm actually a big fan of yours but I'm just not a fan of modern pop production which sounds very artificial and over-produced to my ears. No offence intended to you personally. The other guy's production (sorry I can't remember his name) on Reaper sounded the exact opposite of the kind of production that I like. Vocals were autotuned to hell and any sense of humanity destroyed! Harsh I know but that's how it sounded to me. I'm sure the kids will love it though! I prefer more natural sounding production, although it's hard to find it these days in the top 40.

@@darlenesheffield9835 Yes, I watch this channel all the time and love it. I'm just not a fan of over-produced pop, aimed at the teenage market. That style just sounds so "plastic" and fake to me. Sometimes, less is more. If you love that style, that's great, but it's not for me.

Hi@@marknapier5873 the software we use is GDPR compliant.
