I had a tendency to hit down with my driver so my golf pro did exactly this with the ball position and it worked for me. Every other golf instruction says put ball off left heel and don’t play it any further forward. So refreshing to see this advice now. The key is what’s right for the individual. Sometimes there is a danger to applying generic golf instruction to an individual swing.

I have been struggling with driver for the last few season. Started with a new teacher last weekend and this is the first thing he taught me. Hit my first ever draw. I want to get more comfortable/consistent with this and then focus on clubhead speed. Currently 101, would love to hit 110.

This is so true, I been using this setup for the last 6 months and I gained 20+ yards on my drives, I learned that from Rory in one of his videos, because in my old setup if I try to hit it really hard I would slide my drives, also I noticed that when I hit the ball to the left it means that I’m not hitting up, this setup has changed my driving tremendously, good job guys!

This makes so much sense to me,. I kept hearing the same old method and I couldn't get a decent launch angle no mater how I tried. I wanted to try this at the range, but my local range don't allow you to have the tee too high (grrr!) So I had to tried this today on the course. The first couple went right, but I persevered and suddenly on the back nine I hit one of the biggest drives of my life, with a lovely draw ( 37 meters further than my average). The only difference I found worked for me was to draw my right foot back but keep my shoulders and hips pointing at the target. Cant wait for next week to do it again. Thanks so much.

Great video. I had noticed by moving the ball forward my swing was starting to come out to in causing a slice. So I also adjusted to a closed stance to make the path more neutral.

I’ve tried asking so many for help and have had so many watch my swing and barely anyone can come up with what I’m doing wrong. Everything he explains about what he was doing in his swinging pulling the ball and what not sounds exactly like my problem. Cannot wait to try this new drill. This is what everyone else told me not to do.

I have always played driver this far forward as well. One day on the range a teaching pro came up to my swing coach and questioned my ball position. My swing coach said, "he hits it further and straighter than anyone I coach. There's no way we are changing that". I actually play the ball fairly forward with even my irons because it helps me get to my lead side vs hanging back. I think most golfer can benefit from moving the back up a bit.

Followed your advice and after a few buckets on the range it felt great. Took it to the course and teed off of the first smashing it down the middle, only to find that both my legs fell off. have gone back to my original swing.

I just recently started keeping my back shoulder down a little bit, a little more weight on my back foot, and standing a further back with my driver and 7 wood - immediately saw a positive difference. Still need to practice more and have only had two range sessions, but so far so good. I am so ready for the Spring and excited for this season!

I've been keeping my club head back all year after watching Mo Norman videos. Like your intro, I've been frightened to really try to "wallop" the ball, especially on a 10 pace wide fairway tee shot. That said, I do feel that I need to be freer with my swing. I'll try this lesson when we return to above freeing temps in the spring.

Great video. Shows some good outside the standard way of setting up that works. I honestly have the same issue. My setup is very similar, but ball flight has been too low and jacked up spin. Going to try more of a fwd ball placement with higher tee height. Have same loft on my club and I get lowering the lie to open the face a little. Well done and thanks for sharing.

I did that set up all summer and hit it higher , straighter and further. I also use the Cobra Aerojet LS and my spin is down around 2100 . I also use the Autoflex 505 so the shaft "kicks" in at the bottom

This is a GREAT tip! I was just about to go to my 3 wood for my drives and give up on driver. Seeing this and then trying it out on the range? Wow! What a difference. I need to tweak this and that as I'm experiencing of pulling the ball a bit too much but I'll get it together. Any additional advice to pass on, that would be wonderful. Cheers, guys!

Lately I've been so discombobulated with my 3 wood and Driver. So I tried this. I have zero clue why this works but damn this works. I was smashing through the ball. 239 carry straight as an arrow wirh the 3 wood and 263 carry average with the driver straight down the fairway. Go figure. It's my first time using it and right off the bat great hits.

The longest and straightest players hit the driver forward of the left heel. Go to to a tour event and get up to the ropes to get a good view of how they setup. It will shock you how much cameras 🎥 distorts the view because of angles

I needed this. I was setting up exactly like Piers and getting the exact same results. I was correcting myself just like was done here. Tee higher, huge gap between club and ball, and I would step my right foot back a little to compensate. However, I kept fighting doing that because it was not "correct". It's so contrary to what I've always been thought/told/seen on a driver setup. So freeing to see a pro doing the same thing and validate what I was wanting to do. Now I shall go wallop the ball! 😂

As a new golfer (less than 1 year) I have been terrified of my driver. I airbend the ball HARD to the right. It flies out and I mean goes off like a RC drone to the right. After working through my swing at the range, I teed the ball up high and put it forward in my stance. Almost outside my stance. Just to hit up on it. And I've never bombed my driver shot after shot like that, ever. Slice turned into a nice fade. Now, 2 weeks later I'm finding this video (crazy) and I can't wait to add in some of these tips to better hone my new confidence with my driver. 😎

So for Distance: Tee Higher, place ball further forward in stance and aim right because of arc change caused by moving ball up in stance - got it.

Well I have to say an uncomplicated tip that works amazingly so..I find my brain doesn’t absorb various tips fm different RU-vid golf channels but used this tip today in a league match against okehampton and I’m booming my stealth 2👌👌 so decided to try it with the 3 wood ball teed up on a blue tee…absolutely booming that also..I’m Single figures at golf…this tip is absolute mustard chaps 👏👏👏👏

Watched this video this morning and then went and played 18 to give this a try. Unfortunately, I found you definitely have to tee it higher, and I only had pink castle tees with me. I was catching too many low on the face, but the ones I got middle were really straight. Not sure about length since the course was really wet from the heavy rain we had yesterday, but I had a couple that had some really good carry. I’ll definitely give this another try or two this week.

Guys I went and tested this method out at the range and saw some of the best results I’ve seen all year…if not entire golf journey (roughly 2.5 years in earnest). I’ve not really been able to hit up with driver consistently, was still getting like 260 yds or so…but doing this today I hit a good 30 yards longer. I had never seen the ball go so long and high off the face of my driver. Truly remarkable tip in this video, thanks for sharing! Now let’s see if it will translate to the course haha.

Good tip. Im a pretty low cap but dont have a ton of swing speed (~100 on a good day). I play the ball forward like this. Allows me to get every drop of distance I can by hitting 5 up on it launching it 14/2k on average.

I've been incorporating the hover & focusing on the lean since finding this video a couple weeks ago. Not saying it's a silver bullet but I've gone from consistently carrying ~245 to ~275 (per my BLP) so there's definitely something to it! Now to just get it straighter lol

It was almost as if you knew... I can't stop hitting the bloody thing left. Went out on Sunday, 5 drives, all toe hooks. Went to the range the other day, some good ones but mostly left. Need to sort it out as it's killing my confidence on the course.

Ahh... This sounds like me. Used to be good driver, but bad iron hitter. Now I am a good iron hitter and driver is all over the place. I tend to close the face too much at impact with too much shaft lean with my driver. So I've struggled hitting up and getting the club at the ball fast enough to get ride of the shaft lean with driver. But once in a while when I can hit up on the ball, it launches high with excellent speed and distance. Looking forward to giving this a try. Thanks for sharing!

I have experienced much more consistent, longer drives by setting my driver up about 4 inches behind the ball. I took my Cobra driver loft down from 10.5 to 9 degrees. I also moved my club a bit inside the ball to get consistent center face strikes. My drives went from the 230s to 250s immediately, with wind assisted drives hitting 300 yards. I feel the freedom a lot. My swing speed is up from 100 mph to 110+. A game changer for me.

Hi guys! Great Video! Funny I just started this way of hitting the ball! Hook Stance with the ball out in front and coming from the inside to out to stop my lifetime slice. How am I doing? well after only two range sessions (spring is finally here in Quebec Canada , I see a BIG difference and can't wait to try it on the course! Not having launch monitors where I practice I can only rely on my instincts and I REALLY think this will be a mind blowing new stance and drives this year! Shocking is the only way I can put it. After watching this video, I decided to give this technique a try today during a casual round. I hit maybe 15 balls on the range and the results seemed promising. Shots were straight and contact was solid. Driver for me is typically inconsistent with lower ball flight, poor contact and wide distribution. On the course, shots were exactly as described in the video - a little left to a slight fade to the right. I also gained 15-20 yards in carry from 215 to 230-235. Trajectory was a lot higher. I'm just amazed at how easy it was. I use a 10.5 degree driver and didn't make any adjustments. I DNK if further improvements could be made with equipment optimization.

I am all about this. My drive has always been shit. This technique is golden. There is just one more thing I would suggest addressing, which not many players think about, that unconscious bias in your setup. Eliminate that and you have the perfect combination.

I’ve struggled with the same issue with my driver for years. I’m going to try this setup and see how I like it. I’ve move the ball further up in my stance, but I still have a negative attack angle. Looking to see if the can help. You guys are the best and people are lucky to get lessons from you.

I have some question though; during setup where should the club face be aimed at? Also, my club doesn’t have a fade/draw option and is instead setup to have a draw bias. Most of my shots are either straight or fades, draws are rare and completely on accident.

I think I set up like this, purely by luck I might add, when I'm hitting driver on a dog leg right to cut the corner as I'm aiming right and tee it high, similar to the 230 yard white flag at 3 hammers from left sided bays, when I do this I hit bombs and i seem to feel like i can hit it as hard as I want to and the golf ball gets in the way launching high and long, I could never work out why when I set up to hit it on a straight hole it feels so different, I do exactly as you do and lose 50 yards plus hit down miss right or left, now I know I'm moving ball forward on straight shots but forget to set up slightly right, sounds so simple but I've definitely felt it, I'll practise this at Royal St David's next time I play and have no fear, awesome video keep up the great work both, Loza

I have actually Moved the Ball out past my front foot and Maybe gained at least 30 yards also ,Play my Irons just inside my front foot and smoke em slight Draw but sometimes snaphook.

Sometimes I feel like as mid-handicapper, I feel like all of the normal techniques are the only way. But having the ball position at my toes and not the inside of my foot allows me to hit up and square. Thanks for making the unconventional, acceptable practice. (Insert Jim Furyk swing)

This is me! Hands in front of the driver head. This has caused me to have a bigger draw than I want. I recently saw a video short of Jon Rahm and noticed he was keeping his drive back a few inches behind his ball. I will be practicing this at the range. Perfect and timely for me!!

Almost can't believe that just came to your mind, because it's long and well known knowledge. Whatever - it has it's own pittfalls - for one its harder to hold lag if you hit the ball in upswing. Some more that partly come from closed setup. You'll discover. But basically, to hit it on the up you have to tee up in front and stand slightly closed, absolutely right.

This brings up an issue I think we probably all have, consistency. Recent round this weekend, 3 holes went great then Tee shot on 4, way left then way right and downhill from there. Do you have tips to recognize whats gone wrong and how to be more consistent

One thing you have to really understand is that you will still hit bad shots out there and that's ok. During a round, don't get in to trying to fix anything when you hit a bad shot. Save that for the driving range when you can commit to a correct change.

Yes it certainly can do! there is no right or wrong speed for this. You just have to make sure that it is giving you the flight that you want. The club fitting element of this though is really important.

What if you can't go out and get a new driver head. Just de-loft my 10.5 as low as it goes, down to 8.5? It is a draw biased driver, I can also add lead tape if necessary. Thanks!

With this stance, what's the club face like? I've tried it and the shot end up as hooks or massive draws low in height........please advise as to what I might be doing wrong.... Cheers!
