And still have money accumulating compounding. I wish I knew about the nursing when I got into college as a teenager and be on his boat. Better late than never though🤝
@@JKC112 read the book, “how to quit like a millionaire” by Kristin Shen and a guy. It was written by this couple and they will explain everything for working individuals to attain fire and travel the world for full time. Is is very practical for regular employees like us, and it is very very achievable with travel nursing. I have been doing other investment stuff but this is by far the least risk that involve with it. They talk about bonds, VTI, pocket cash, and dividends, and yield shield and it all make sense.

I love how he just takes 1 week off between contracts and not consistently 4-6 weeks off bcus “i work hard, so i deserve it” mindset and constantly “need”vacations and luxury items. Definitely ahead of his game. Proud of him. Thank you for some good tips.
Whats wrong with taking 4 -6 weeks off ...if a person have a means for it ...they should take extended break. Comment like yours on how ppl burn out fast.
@@awesomekj5812 everyone is entitled to an opinion. But I clearly said consistently (After each contract). I have taken 2 months off myself. And that’s the excuse some nurses want to use now, back then it was not like that. Building wealth comes with short term sacrifices.

Yeah man... We definitely started off on the wrong track but at least we go on the right one before it was too late, lol. And, yeah, almost at 10k. I feel like it's taken forever but I know the majority of RU-vidrs can take years to even get this far.

I am California nurse but works in Seattle as a stem cell nurse. Travel nurse earns a lot of money but it is not sustainable. I settled to one workplace for stability and benefits when I retire. I have both pre and post IRA contribution and my company match me. The best part is I travel 3-4 times a year outside of USA for vacation using my generous PTO. Goodluck to this nurse. You better work and save more.
Travel is what’s trendy nowadays despite being sustainable or not it’s what’s giving money now. Staff pay is shit anyway. Hospitals are glorified hotels and like to play the system, so travel nurses are playing the game as well. Personally I got different long term goals in this career that will bring greater amounts in the future not this get rich quick now and see what we do later. I’m gonna have to work harder for way more years but the compensation will be larger.
according to him he's grossing 5k a week and netting 4k a week. so he's only losing 20% of his check after ALL those deductions????? in california of all places????? yea right

I am a burnt out ICU nurse. Made a lot of money during covid crises. Want to leave the bedside so bad. Actually the whole field because you already know... I dont have investments mainly because i dont know how to. Now I work a contract and take 3 or more months break in between. I'm happy for him hes 27 and loves it. I'm 29 and Im so done with healthcare.
Any thoughts on what you might do next? Healthcare is appealing but I can only see it as an outsider looking in and can see where the system has many not so stellar practices and aspects.

The pay packages arent worth it right now, except for some places in cali. I've decided to work in an outpatient clinic in a nonbedside role full time as I lay low and try to figure out my real exit from the field. I'm thinking of going into technology or owning a business, maybe even becoming a bartender.
Wow glad to find this channel as I’m barely making it because I spend my income like water, I just did a 10 night straight 12 hr shift and it was quite brutal, need to learn how to save but at the same time I don’t want to work too much where my tax bracket will increase too…
This thing you hear about people not wanting to go into a higher tax bracket because they're afraid they're going to pay more taxes is something that is said by someone who doesn't understand economics. At the end of the day, regardless of how much tax you pay, it's how much you are bringing home that counts. California is the state with the highest taxes and these nurses are bringing home over $15k per month.
It’s bad in MT, WY, ID, ND, TN (Midwest)for nurses pay, bad for pt ratios. I traveled to a Midwest hospital and the staff nurses got a 20 cent raise after working covid and had over 10 years experience! Travel nursing paid off my loan and helped with saving/investing. For acute dialysis it’s 2.00 hour for on call and NO CALL BACK PAY-I only got call back pay when I traveled.

So, I guess he drove his car from Georgia to Chicago, then to California? I was an independent software engineer 22 years ago from DC, who took contracts in Long Island, Manhattan and back in DC. I stayed regional. My ex at the time was a BSN who followed me from NC where we graduated from college to the DC area after a year. About a year after that, she told me if she could do it again, she'd have relocated as a travel nurse. Now, I'm making sure the young nurses I know are aware of the tremendous financial opportunity available to them. "First I'm gone stack my flow, Then I'm gone stack some more," - Jeezy.

Experience doesn't always mean a better nurse. I've met so many experienced ones that are no good and some amazing new grads as well. Not required to "pay your dues".
@@chinoz4102 I’m sorry I disagree. New grads have no business traveling. Book nursing is far different than real nursing. I’ve been a nurse for almost 15 years and I have not had your experience, but I’ve worked in ICU, Acute Dialysis, Inpatient Psych Lockdown in youth and adult and IR and I travel. @@travelnurseadventures3225 I was told to pay my dues in Med Surg before working the ICU. I was lucky enough to be given a chance to start in the Neuro surgical ICU 13 years ago as a new nurse and successfully bounced between that and medical ICU for a decade before becoming an NP. I did fine moving up the experience and role ladder. I don't think anyone out there actually thinks that book nursing is the same as being at bedside, but successfully transitioning from a scared new grad to independent nurse has to do with a lot more than time spent on the floor passing meds. I think it has more to do with each person's attitude, willingness to improve and support/guidance from colleagues. I'm sure many new nurses will be fine traveling and have seen many experienced ones having some difficulty adjusting also. Can't put them all in one bag. Like you said, we will have to disagree 🤷🏻♂️
Well you can’t really get anything without a year, and two is actually preferred. I haven’t met any recruiters that take new grads. A year is already pushing it.
I get what you're saying I get this comment more times than I can count. I should have an automated response for it. I don't look at how much we're taxed. I look at how much we end up with in our bank account when we get paid. We average $15k to $20k after taxes every month. There's no way we would earn that much in any other state. After all of our expenses here, we're left with $9k to $14k.
Nurses from other states take travel assignments to California especially in the Bay Area. But i noticed its rare for a Bay Area Nurse taking travel assignments to other states.

I need your advice whether to continue on my specialty (endoscopy) or going into Medical-Surgical Nursing when I get to california?
It's extremely rare for a nurse working outside of a facility to get hired into their Endoscopy unit. It's not impossible, but it's extremely rare. So you could apply for Endoscopy jobs when you see them but I say apply to jobs in other units as well.
HOLY CRAP. I wanted to attend nursing school here in the bay but it’s incredibly competitive. I’m attended to Australia next year to earn my masters of nursing. Hoping to return back to the bay in a few years
@@moonlightandstaryeyesbestr6061 1st year CNA in California(no experience) is about 19-21 per hour but they get raises every year. Average is 22-24 per hour some make even more depending on years of experience.
im glad i dont have to work as a travel rn because i have a good stable staff job in CA making as much as a travel nurse (maybe more) with less experience than a travel nurse
Very true i touched up on it in the vid. Less resentment against travelers in Bay area due to the similar wages. The thing that probably edges me out a bit is the stipends I receive.
I think if he would switch the amount he contributes to savings and investments and put that on his 401K instead he would see more take home $$ and still be investing/saving. That way he will be taxed MUCH less too... just until he maxes it.
Get out of UK and move to California to make bank. Three 12 hour shifts is full time in California and patient to nurse ratio is much better, it is in State law. California has a very active and strong nurses' union.
Yeah, 401ks only have limits to employer match, not to employee contributing. When it comes to opening an HSA: If you are self-employed or your employer does not offer a health plan, you can contribute to an HSA.
Many travelers I've spoken with say you should have at least 2 years of experience as a staff nurse in your specialty before you take on a travel assignment.
You can start your travel 🧳 nurse journey since day one after graduation 🎓 there's no right time or too many requirements like minimum time of being graduated go for it! Time is now
Please get good experience before you travel. Staff nurses don't have time from the foolishness. Don't lie to these company that you have experienced, because when you get to these floors staff nurses will eat you alive and some states are now reporting you. Pandemic is over so mistakes cannot hide.
He's a traveler. I don't think it would make sense for him to buy a home near his job unless he plans to settle and become a staff nurse in that location.
Les, thank you for responding to my comment. First let me say I think you are making really great decisions, and I in no way meant to imply you should buy a home. Renting in your area and your situation makes the most sense. My main concern is that housing has become unaffordable in so many markets for highly skilled RNs to buy a home in or semi-near the communities they serve. Since your income is nearly 3 times the median income (which is awesome, nice work). I really do not see how there is any problem with your income, but more so the housing prices have become unaffordable for the majority of Americans who do not already own a home. The housing prices need to come back down to reality (pun intended).
@@djcruiser9816 oh def get what you mean. Yeah housing prices in a lot of US cities is definitely unaffordable. I always think about how people who make a median wage survive in some cities. Especially when you include kids in the picture. I agree with you prices need to go down. Bay Area has a problem with not enough houses being built due to multiple of reasons.
It’s almost like traveling Machinist. $50 an hour. Nurses just make more lol. Also the housing per diem is like $55/Day and if you know how to live without a physical address it’s easier to make more cash. $1500 I think and they pay for gas.
@@NursesToRiches I know right. Ask him cos I am finding that a bit hard to believe. Yes Washington D.C might pay good. I think they pay more than some areas in neighboring Maryland and Virginia but I don’t think they pay the same as California or the Bay Area.
I love your channel! I’m thinking of getting into an ABSN program as I have a degree in Nutritional Sciences. The one thing that’s stopping me from doing it is the clinical requirement to get the covid vaccine :( ( I live in AZ). Also, another question is can you be a travel nurse fresh out of nursing school?
No, you cannot be travel nurse straight out of nursing school. Most travel companies, if not all, require at least 1-2 years of nursing experience before they’ll hire you. So typically, people spend 1-2 years as a staff nurse before they do travel nursing.
I’ve been an LVN for 16 years and I’m so damn burned out that I don’t even wanna pursue an RN degree anymore. The money is okay, but if I could’ve taken a different career path when I decided on this one I would’ve chosen to become a Mechanic or an Electrician instead. I still might decide to switch careers once my kids are grown up. If you don’t genuinely love being around and socializing with people daily then don’t go into Nursing of any kind; you’ll just end up like me in fifteen years, feeling like you’re stuck in a job you hate, or working in home healthcare with zero real tangible benefits because you can’t tolerate the insane amounts of stress and responsibility you’re faced with in a Hospital setting each day. Yes, you can work 12 hr shifts and multiple jobs, and I do… and yes, the pay is decent, but you’re still trading your time for an income and even in home health the job can really suck sometimes.
Being an RN gives you an incredible amount of options. I spoke with a nurse a few days ago that has a 2.9m net worth. He worked in a call center for Kaiser toward the end of his career with the organization. He's only 32 years old and moved to Florida so him and his wife/kids could be closer to family, his wife (who was also a former nurse) could be a stay-at-home wife, and he could work in an ICU 2 days a week.
@@jakejennings5152 if you hate the job, you have the option to leave and work somewhere else. That's the beauty of being an RN. IGJR in youtube works as a nurse for Tesla.
@@NursesToRiches yeah, I’m just sticking it out till my kids are grown and then I’m gonna try to get on with a new career altogether. I only have five more years till they’re grown and I can do whatever I want then. Nursing is not my cup of tea and never has been. I’m giving a lot of consideration to buying a truck and doing local or regional Owner/Operator work when I’m no longer raising kids.
Still out there especially with procedural units. They are mostly concentrated in the Pacific NW, Cali, and Boston area. Shoot I see a few 150 an hour ones sometimes.
Hey… I’m a UK based RN and I have been a job that pays $31-35 per hour in Ithica, New York and I’m contracted to work there for 3 years. This is a direct hire and they are only paying for my flight and visa fees, but not my family. Is this worth it? I’m thinking of using as a stepping stone to my journey to do nursing in the USA.
I'm in Syracuse, I think that's average for staff nurse. But there is a lot of money in travel pay. Maybe you can find something on your off days in or near Syracuse.
I know a Travel Nurse in my hospital (East Bay area in California) who is from Canada. I think she said the Travel Company sponsored her. She has to stay with them, but she told me she has been with them a few years and is now in the process of getting her US Citizenship. Smart girl, because she has already bought a home in Florida, which you don’t have to pay state income tax if that is your home State. The company she uses is called CrossCountry. But I’m sure if this travel company sponsors nurses, others would too. Good Luck!
Btw, Ithica is considered “Upstate NY.” It doesn’t pay as well as the NYC area. But it’s also a lot cheaper than NYC. I’m originally from NYC. Made my way to California as a travel nurse. Now I’m a California girl ;-)
Another sad fact…new nurses earn more than current nurses working for the company for awhile..need to quit and get hired elsewhere to get increase income..
So let me get this right, this guy earns $140/hr, which means if he works a normal 40 hr week that is about $300k a year ($140 x 40 weeks x 52 weeks). Travel nurses are making $300k a year? Wow.
@@NursesToRiches i mean average by US pay scale. Even if you are the best nurse in the world, companies pay you the rate based on competitors. No company will be you triple the national average just because you're the best when they can pay another nurse alot less to do the same job.

If you haven't realized it by now, there are thousands of articles and news stories of nurses earning hundreds of thousands per year. It sounds like your opinion is that nurses should not be allowed to work in hospitals that pay them what they think they deserve to get paid because it will make them look like they are only doing it for the money. Have you not considered that they get paid more in California because the cost of living is astronomical and these hospital systems don't want nurses to live in poverty like they do in every other state? That is why most hospitals in California are unionizing. So, you may have your opinion, but nurses have a desire, just like almost every other employee in this country, to earn enough money so they don't have to live paycheck to paycheck.

Since the pandemic and people saying how much money they made nurses are targets,not just by random people but by family. The money earned by traveling and yes I do local travel is blood sweat and tears. We don't know how much bond traders make. Let's make up a hippa for how much money nurses make. That's my point.
@@nighni459 I hope you are aware that there is a federal law that was passed which allows employees to talk about their salaries publicly because employers would love it if we kept these things to ourselves. Not discussing salaries means travelers wouldn't make what they make and nurses in California would be sleeping in tents just like the more than 30,000 homeless individuals in LA county.

It depends on ur specialty. If u work ICU, OR, L&D or Peds @ a Trauma Level I hospital, I recommend 2 yrs. If u work Med Surg, 1 yr is cool. U will learn as u go. I've seen experienced nurses come travel & r limited on what they know based on where they came from. If u come from a facility where u get a plethora of patients and illnesses, u'll b fine. All hospitals r not the same. Come n ready & willing 2 learn & put ur best foot 4ward. What u know...stand on. What u don't, take advantage of the learning opportunities.
Would you recommend coming in as a travel nurse to gauge the units at the Kaiser in the city I want to live in? I’m also lucky enough to have a job that can transfer me to this city (that I can use as a stepping stone). Any thoughts? I have a year of Medsurg experience at a Level 1Trauma center.
