Being shipped with a best friend would be awkward. Sure. But imagine being shipped with a member you really don't like. The worst coworker of yours. That would be infuriating as hell. Imagine doing skinship or something with a person you don't like as your job, and then in your short and valuable free time while browsing the internet, seeing all these fans shipping you two. I would go crazy.

The group that I feel is the legitimately scary are Taekookers (V and Jungkook of BTS shippers). V has literally told fans to knock it off because I think it makes him uncomfortable and he’s hinted multiple times he would like publicly date women. Fans of the ship recently attacked a COMPANY that works with BTS for not feeding a fantasy about matching necklaces. They’ve treated Jimin horribly because he’s “stealing” Jungkook. When BTS do finally start dating publicly I fear for their partners. They treat them like dolls. It’s so creepy.

This is so accurate with dreamcatcher like the girls are literally best friend, super close to each other and very playful I feel uncomfortable when some insomnias keep obsessing over the girls sexuality ! Like sua for example said many times that she expresses love with skinship that doesn't make her lesbian or straight it's just a character trait. I'm scared that if one of the girls ever date a male in the future they would face wrath from lesbian somnias
@lolisapiensa3134

@alishashashasha6909

I feel it the same way 🙂💔, like the girls are honestly just enjoying each other's company and skinship but I've seen a lot of somnias have this idea that all the girls are a 100% gay. And nothing is wrong with it but why would you assume someone's sexuality you don't even know personally??
@charred6683
@charred6683 2 года назад
I think other groups would have a harder time dealing with "coming out as hetero" than Dreamcatcher. They have like the biggest ratio of male fans in the industry including many foreigners who are originally rock/metal fans, music genres where the only thing that matters about your personality is not who or what you are, but the authenticity itself. Their music style is also not targeting such a young audience like most of kpop, maybe a few crazy fans will have a mental breakdown but I feel like the general maturity of this fandom will really not care and in fact would be very happy for them. Even if they all announce they're in a straight relationship, it's not gonna save any of them from getting their butts grabbed by SuA.

Straight woman's obsession with gay man always made me really uncomfortable to be honest but, not only in the kpop community, it's been so normalised. I've seen so many people complain about straight man who watch lesbian p0rn, then turn around and pretend straight woman watching gay p0rn is completely normal and harmless. I think two other aspects are 1) female bg fans not being able to accept their fave being with a woman who isn't them so they'd rather them be gay with a member of choice and 2) treating idols as if they are like dolls you can mold or characters you can headcanon as certain things. I'm involved in a lot of fandom spaces where we have lots of headcanons and stuff but having headcanons of sorts about real people is just creepy to me. It's fine when it's fictional characters because they aren't real, but when it's real people and you're just assuming something and forcing it on real people, it borders on creepy.

YESSSSS, the proof of the "female stans would rather see a member being gay than with a woman who isn't them" is the Arin and that guy from txt situation, when they worked together. Arin used to just do the most minimal skinship (like hitting his arm when laughing and being close when talking) and people bullshitted her SO MUCH she kept 2 feet distant from him from that point forward. it's sad because it's literally what you do when you're actually comfortable with someone, your subconscious seeks that touch and she probably didn't even notice she did those things. I'm so tired of people treating idols like they're characters in a dating sim.

It's the fact that in K-pop idols are made to do things that seem "gay" as in the game with where they have to pass a piece of paper with their mouths etc which is used as entertainment and none of the idols doing that are shunned by society. Compared to this Holland (who's an openly gay solo artist) is ignored within Kpop and also attacked in Korea for being gay yet no one seems to look at him or acknowledge him or what is happening to him. Fans (and Korea) are ok with idols being "gay" for entertainment purposes however if an idol is openly gay than they get ignored or shunned by society within Korea Sorry for this huge essay 😅

Songs I find queerbaiting is monster and heart attack. First of, Irene and Seulgi aren't dating. The storyline isn't gay, it's the close scenes and how they get close to eachother. The storyline is how they are 2 witches who put cursed in their sleep. Irene is the winner while Seulgi is getting controlled from her in the end. 2nd of, heart attack is Chuu being inlove with yves but Yves doesn't notice. Chuu doesn't end up with Yves in the loonaverse but she did escaped from garden of eden so it's okay. The problem is that fans don't know the storyline and assume the 2 are dating which is false in both reality and the loonaverse. They aren't really close friends. Plus the lyrics is about 1 sided love and obsession.

@@yooniverse7313 Monster is based on a gothic novella about a vampire falling in love with a young woman named Laura. The vampire Carmilla thinks than she's in love (or lies to the girl) and tries to make Laura become dependent on her. The bedroom scene refers to Carmilla hypnotizing Laura to make her fall asleep and then try to bite her. I won't spoil you how it ends, the mv's ending is different, but i recommend reading "Carmilla", it's good. I think they portrayed the characters well in the MV. They were very intimate in the book (and Carmilla even told Laura that she loves her, and that she has been in love with no one "unless it should be with you", and the mv showed the same "seducing an oblivious prey" as the book, slightly tweaking it for their version of the ending. Lastly, of course, they weren't girlfriends neither in the book, nor in the video. That was the point of the entire first half (or even more): to trick us into thinking that they will become girlfriends and make the ending plot twist more impactful.

OMG YES THANK YOU I had this conversation with a friend who is straight and I kept saying to her : « why are LGBTs so angry about assuming people’s sexuality but they KEEP assuming others are gay??? » I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, but I cannot understand. Assuming you to be straight is an insult but you assuming someone is gay isn’t ?? The skinship thing LOOKS overdone by some group members (not going to name, you know who they are). So imagine how many others do skinship because they have been told to when it seems so genuine ?? We will never know. I have big problems especially with the posts saying « Felix bi king » « Sana bi queen » and sh*t like that. Even if they are, they did not come out. If they didn’t, it’s because they are reasons. So PLEASE stop that ? Would you like people to out YOU without your consent ? « But it’s so obvious, I can sense it » This is sooo bullsh*t. You cannot sense someone’s sexuality. The looks and the attitude doesn’t mean anything. A very manly, big, bald strong man can be gay while a very feminine one, who looks openminded and talks about taboo society topics can be straight. You do not sense anything. You don’t have the power to be this insensitive because you are in a minority it doesn’t excuse anything.

The only reason there is a "negative" response towards the assumption of heterosexuality is because the regressive leftist ideological mob waging war on society through the control of culture has managed to brainwash a lot of people into believing that any words or actions that do not blindly and unconditionally support the LGBT cause HAS TO BE SEEN AS AN ENEMY. Yess to all of this! I see a lot of people assuming the sexuality of Ryujin all the time, to the point where it’s kinda weird. A lot of people know her as the gay one in ITZY but she’s never said that she’s gay or dated a woman publicly (for obvious reasons, bc she would not have a career in korea and might be hate-crimed), they all just assume she is based on stereotypes. Also people misinterpret her word a lot. As a wlw myself, I think there’s so much more to Ryujin than whoever she wants to date, and a sexuality is not the same as a personality. You can dress “feminine” and still like women. And you can act like a tomboy and still be straight. People are complicated but the sad truth is most of them are straight. If you want representation there are plenty of out and proud lesbians/gay guys out there, you don’t need to assume the sexuality of someone else. Also in such a homophobic country these kinds of assumptions could be dangerous to the idols. If it is true, you’re literally outing someone before they’re ready and putting their whole career at risk.

just wanna share an experience that i had regarding this topic; i think it's pretty well-known that majority of loona's fans (orbits) are part of the lgbtq+ community. there was this one viral tweet that a fan account tweeted about something along the lines of if a loona member will date a man, then the fandom will be in shambles. the tweet was flooded with many replies and qrts of people saying that they will genuinely be upset if it will ever happen and that they would not support it. idk how serious those people were or if they're just joking, but the way that most seemed really upset even just by the idea was pretty concerning. us orbits already have a bad reputation of the way we "respect" other people, so seeing these reactions was really disappointing to see. especially when dating in kpop is still kind of a taboo and could potentially get them hate from knetz ig the point that im trying to get here is that we really shouldn't get attached to these idols, and most importantly, not assume their sexuality if they hadn't confirmed it 🤷‍♀️

Their behaviour high-key reeks of biphobia/panphobia, like just because someone dates the opposite gender it doesn't automatically make them straight, they could be bi or pan and have a preference for the opposite gender. Like the (maybe fake but even then still disrespectful to express) disappointment some ONCEs had with Heechul and Momo dating ("awww I thought she was our lesbian queen" for instance) really rubbed me the wrong way, it really ties in to biphobic/panphobic ideas such as "bi/pan people are less gay than lesbians/gays" and/or "bisexuals/pansexuals in a relationship with the opposite gender are pretty much just straight".

And I also get that it's really easy to ship the members because they have A LOT of chemestry, and sometimes I say stuff like "they look like a merried couple" as a joke, and some of the members joke about it too (like Jeongyeon saying on Instagram that her trip to Busan with Jihyo felt like their honeymoon), but sometimes it gets kind of serious and it's uncomfortable. Overall we shouldn't assume idols' sexualities, but it's better for idols to be labelled as straight in SK because of the way the industry currently is. Whether they become more progressive or not, only time will tell, but for now it's just how it is. Shipping in general, whether queer or not doesn't bother me, until it starts to affect an idol's personal life because people get upset when the idol's SO isn't the person they were shipped with. Anyway, stan Moonbyul and Seori for being brave enough to give us an inclusive bop- but don't assume their sexualities because of it >:(

i also don’t get the “wanting representation” argument to why they use kpop idols as puppets and overanalyze their interactions just to say they’re queer. as a trans girl i’ve never once sought out representation in kpop or felt as though i was entitled to representation in kpop. when i heard about “lady” (all transgender kpop gg) i was like “oh that’s cool” and listened to their song. i don’t think there’s anything such as “too much representation” but that argument is irrelevant, there’s so many lgbtq celebrities/actors & it’s usually western fans saying this (at least what i see on twitter) so i know it would be a lie to say they have no representation of themselves or their identity in the media. maybe it’s because there’s a different stigma around being trans in contrast to being queer ofc kpop stans would think it’s weird to label someone they don’t know irl as transgender because they want “representation” in their fave industry, but it’s same idea.

Another thing is that I think a lot of k-pop fans who have this obsession with which idols could be lgbt or not don’t actually care about representation of the reality of what being lgbt means, they just like the “aesthetic” and the idea of their idol being something that’s trendy right now. Just like they’d like to believe that idols are more progressive/left than they really are. It’s no coincidence that idols with “gay rumors” are popular and the few actually out idols are not successful.

I’ve dealt with a lot of assumption of sexuality for a big chunk of my life and to me it really halted my ability to find my sexuality. I’m a more feminine man so people I have been assumed as gay so much. But I’m not exactly gay. Generally I am bisexual, specifically bisexual heteroromantic. So basically I find both men and women attractive physically, but only women romantically. I spent so long denying the fact that I had some attraction towards men because I never felt romantically attracted to any man but everyone thought that I was gay. I’ve found that some people part of the lgbtq+ community that I have met push a lot on getting people to come out and declare their sexuality when I wasn’t even ready. This might just be my experience, but it has really made me grown resentful of within group ships because I don’t like people assume and pushing a sexuality on others because at the end of the day, nobody knows except the person themselves.

How do you assume the sexuality of a person you don't know? with stereotypes, and that's a problem, I always read comments like "it's obvious he's gay", "he's so gay" and I wondered how a gay person should act? if you don't have those characteristics you're not gay? they simplify it a lot to the fact that if he seeks contact or is more friendly and social he is gay, and if he is more reserved and does not like contact so much he is heterosexual, I think they use idols to project their fantasies, stereotypes and their insecurities, like " X idol is like that, I'm also like that so we're the same"

As a lesbian I have found that it’s a very normal experience to wonder if maybe someone that pings you as gay COULD really be gay. It‘s because we do have less couples and people with similar experiences to relate to, so it almost makes your heart burst to think that someone you like might be like you. It can be very lonely coming to terms with your own sexuality and fandoms are often where you form your first lgbt+ friendship groups, which are so important for us. But what I don’t agree with is making someone‘s sexuality a public discussion and I feel uncomfortable when it reaches the idol or they get exposed to fanfiction and videos that cross the line. If they are gay then it would be incredibly scary and dangerous for them to be at risk of being outed. It‘s okay to wonder but let‘s leave it there.

i'm a once, and like 95% of our international fandom is gay. like reallyyyyy gay. and as queer people, we naturally call everything gay. most of the time it's a joke but then u see some people (mostly minaXchaeyoung shippers) that go *way* too far. make weird edits, create false narratives, and even bring the ship up to mina and chaeyoung themselves which is😬😬😬 good thing twice literally do not gaf another thing that kinda bothers me, and this might be unpopular. but i hate when kpop stans bring up lgbt issues to idols... like i know we all want validation. that's natural. but i prefer the more sincere support that comes from the celebrities themselves and not when somebody asks them and they have no other choice but to say they support it, and then maybe face criticism from knetz😭 when twice (yes i'm using them for examples again lol) said multiple times, even on national tv, that they think 2 women and 2 men can also be in relationships. or when they sang born this way and decided to include the lgbt part. or sana acknowledging fangirls wanting to marry her lol etc. it feels way more accepting and validating than when somebody forces it out of them and about queerbaiting... when monster by irene&seulgi came out i was living for it cause as a gay woman, i love watching women even exist... simple lol... i didn't have any issue with it but then i went on twitter and saw a lot of people complaining about them queerbaiting. and i totally get that but then you start questioning "what if some of them are gay and making this video and singing this song felt freeing in a way?"... if anything, i'd rather blame the companies than the artists. and don't even get me started on when kpop stans accused gidle of queerbaiting when soyeon wrote oh my god... that song literally perfectly described an lgbtq+ person living in a conservative country. so many fans, including myself, could relate to the lyrics and felt seen but kpoppies always have to police everything and ruin the fun. then there are idols like heechul tho, who's said he's straight but then continued making out with his members on stage and capitalizing on it... *that* is actual queerbaiting and i do have an issue with it🤷‍♀️ siwon too. shoved his tongue down his members' throats multiple times and then proceeded to retweet a christian home of phobic tweet...

It's really just a case of fan service. Appealing to what fans seem to want. The reason why people got mad at Oh My God being "queerbaiting" is because Soyeon is quite openly not gay so it's that kind of typical case of "why is a gay character played by a straight actor" kind of complaints. There is a giant problem caused by "vocal minorities" and I hate to break it to you but it also skewed your perception of reality. There is no way 95% of international Twice fandom is gay. What you are seeing is a vocal minority being super loud online. If we look at social media, specially places like tiktok, it would be easy to lose sense of the big picture and start believing there's a giant portion of the population that's trans. But no, trans people are still barely 1% of the population if not less, but they just so happen to all follow the same trend of being super loud online. They find joy in seeing representation online and in return they want to become this representation for others, so ti's just a big circle of a tiny portion of the population just yelling in your face online so you think it's a lot. All the "normal" people are just doing their thing, listening to Twice for the music without giving a shit about sharing their own sexual orientation online or even trying to figure out which member is a fake gay created by the fandom. The gigantic majority of people do not participate in online chatter with random people so you just don't know how many basic straight people are out there just doing their thing without trying to overrepresent themselves online. I don't even think "queerbaiting" is a real thing. It's a made up term to emphasize a victim mentality and giving a short word to use to better whine online about anything that rattles their feelings. It's like cultural appropriation in music, a fucking a joke, it doesn't exist.

Totally agree that idols probably are told to ham up skinship for the camera. It’s also worth noting that in general, same sex touch in public doesn’t have the same connotation in Korea as it does in the West. A lot of the skinship between idols is truly just how close friends treat one another in Korea. Korean netizens in general aren’t looking at these moments and thinking “oh they’re gay” they’re seeing normal affection between friends. It’s just an example about how international K-pop stans simply don’t fully understand the context of the culture they’re witnessing.

3 things from me 1. Assume other people sexuality is not good no matter gay or straight 2. Stop being obsessed with other people's sexuality, it's annoying 3. As a gay man, not everything is about lgbtq stfu edit: Clarification of point 3, i'll give you the examples of what i've seen (non-kpop related) 1. People say that elsa (frozen) is lesbian because she didn't fall in love with a man in the film when literally she can be independant women 2. People say that Luisa (Encanto) is trans because she is musculine when literally she can be musculine women

"there are people wanting representation that don't deserve representation" I just now realized that the story I read years ago about a girl being solely attracted to homosexual men is borderline fetishization. The youtuber who read the story on her channel googled it and there was a name for it and everything. People are just too afraid of being canceled nowadays, they don't dare to question other people, no matter how questionable their beliefs etc are.

They are the reason why I don't want Mina and Chaeyoung only both in a long videos together. Their friendship is kinda tarnished with their fans' fantasy. Everytime Chaeyoung is doing live her live chat always asking her about Mina, EVERY TIME. And I feel like MiChaeng shippers main bias only likes Mina and Chaeyoung just happened to be there, feel bad for Chaeyoung. The popularity difference between both women are just so big. I'm not forgiving them for what they think they can do to Chaeyoung. Edit: they're so desperate that they wish Chaeyoung is bisexual because of rumour that she was dating with tattoo artist guy. Like if she's a bi, leave her alone, her sexuality is none of our business, it's just a sexuality, why make it a whole thing. And I have taken back what I said wrong to clear the misunderstanding, I was meant to speak on about their desperation about idols sexuality.

This is the first video about this topic that I actually agree with. Most of the times people just say "don't assume idols' sexualities" and that's it. You dissected the problem to the root and how it may start with good intentions (searching for representation) and end up as an obsession. I think my main problem with the queerbaiting's debate is that we actually don't know if it's queerbaiting. Like, 9 times out of 10 it probably is, but then there is that 1 time when an idol is actually queer and being comfortable in what they are doing and that 1 time must be protected. It's a problem because assuming everything in K-pop as queerbaiting can invalidate the experiences of queer idols. There are groups who were confident in their "queer songs" and they worked on them. Like Gidle for "oh my god" and OnlyOneOf for Libid0 (they made the choreo). How can we relate to that? Is it queerbaiting or is it real? We can't possibly know, so I'm always catious in saying I hate queerbaiting if I'm not sure something is actually queerbaiting. Otherwise we go back to banning anything "queer" for fear of queerbaiting. It's a difficult topic. And I don't think groups will stop doing that. It just brings recognition and money. Look at the success of Oh my god and Tomboy. Or how DKZ became very popular in SK after one member was an actor in a BL. Same with OmegaX when know two members are starring in a BL. Again, how can we stop it if people enjoy it and this groups gain recognition they wouldn't otherwise have? And again, how can we be so sure to the point of condemning them if we don't know if they are queer or not? But I do agree in SK and Asia in general the support for this queer "representation" is much stronger than the support they would give to people who are actually queer. And about assuming people's sexualities, I just don't like when people complain about other people thinking an idol is gay but at the same time they say things like "omg his wife will be so lucky". I don't like it both ways. But I agree more times than not we imagine people as straight before being told otherwise. I still think an open minded person wouldn't mind if someone assumed their wrong sexuality. I wouldn't care if someone thought I was gay, why would it bother me? Unlsess I specifically state my sexuality, then I don't see the problem. I wouldn't be "uncomfortable". But maybe this is just me, idk.

Another thing I hate how fandoms make jokes about idols possible sexual orientation. Even calling them homophpbic derogatory terms "he's so fruity" for his behavior or even a slur. If any of these idols are gay or bisexual they're most likely in the closet and are going through a lot and it's not funny to mock them. Idk homophobia will never be funny to me.

To answer the last question - no, they won't be supportive. Why? Because it won't be the fantasyland of fanfics, where two hot idols from one group have passionate affair. It will be the reality, where the hot male idol's boyfriend will be someone, I don't now, balding or too old or too boring or in some other way not meeting their childish expectations. Suddenly they will be called "problematic" and left in the dust.

You have done it once again Cheryl!😭💯 It also irks me when assumption of an idol's sexuality is called out for some by doing the most but they get immediately silenced/literally bullied (called all kinds of phobic😬) by ppl in their own fandom whom are in the lgbt+ community. These exact ppl shutting others down use their lgbt+ as a pass to constantly do this & it really needs to stop. I have seen this happen with a nugu grp all because one idol is supportive of the lgbt+ community by interacting with fans. It's just so disheartening to see this toxic cycle never end. Before anyone asks, I'm in the lgbt+ community myself. It's sad that it's never peaceful & kpop fans always need to have something to fight over/be angry about. Anyways, I'm really glad you brought up this topic as it really needs to be addressed.

Thank You! I'm straight but respect the LGBTQ+ community. Everyone should find his happiness, no matter with whom. BUT it gets on my nerves when fans assume things about very private things from a Kpop idol. Even if two girls or two guys love each other, that's their thing. That's nobody's business. Among Orbits, for example, it's seen as a joke but what happened a few years ago with a male fan who shared a lot on Twitter from KCON LA (so-called LOONACON), that was crazy. A female fansite incited her friends to bash him because he is a man. Those who were around at the time know the people I'm talking about. I thought they were nuts. Since then I've stayed away from Orbits. I continue to be a fan of LOONA but call myself Loonatic (pre-debut name). I don't want to have anything to do with the rest of the fans since then.

People need to remember that being gay in South Korea can cause an idol to lose their career. So yeah, when idols are being touchy and are "flirting" with each other, its either they're just messing around and are just comfortable with skinship or its just fan service.

Fans really need to stop projecting their personal desires. I’ve always been too scared to call out the queer baiting. Literally my favorite K-pop group queer baits to the max, and if I were to call out the shippers and the group for the bait I’d be called ‘homophobic’ even though I’m bisexual. I’ve seen comments from shippers looking up marriage laws outside of Korea for certain members that they ship, and the fact that they go above and beyond to make analysis videos also blows my mind. It’s quite scary how out of touch fans are, and some aren’t even young.

I am so happy that someone FINALLY opens up about this. I think the reason why some people especially kpop fans rarely open up about this issue because of other fans. Those fans might hate on them or say negative things because these people who find this shipping an issue mainly gay shipping, hate the fact that people are not going along with their fantasies. Both straight and gay shipping are not great. Because you are one shipping people who probably don't know each other or are just friends, two you don't even know how these people feel about the shipping you are doing and three you are assuming their sexuality mainly because they just interacted or they are being feely and stuff. It's really sad. I hope more people open up about this issue because this really needs to be talked about and learned about.

If y’all wanna see the damage shipping real people has done, please look up LARRY(1D) and CAMREN(5H). Lauren from Fifth Harmony even cried addressing her problem with fans shipping her at a time she wasn’t out and how scared and vulnerable she felt. It also ended up ruining their friendship because fans would often take EVERYTHING they did out of context and make it about each other, leaving no room for their personal selves. The fans that act like this think they’re being supportive by “knowing the truth” when in reality, they’re just making a possible straight person very uncomfortable and outing a possible gay person and making them feel very vulnerable and like they should hide in the closet “better”.

Being touchy and affectionate toward your friends doesn't define sexuality I think it's something more related to culture for example in my culture , we get more touchy especially with our besties but that doesn't mean we're dating it's just acceptable in our culture and a lot of foreigners who come to our country think that the whole population is LGBTQ 😂

I personally feel like the people who do that need to realize theyre making people uncomfortable and they should stop this bizarre behavior.

This is so true and not just in kpop. Even if the person of topic has revealed themselves as a straight person, people will convince themselves that they aren’t just because of some sentences and a couple of things they do that are actually what many normal people do. People like Ryujin and Stray kidz have always been associated with being gay just because she called a girl pretty and because they share skinship (you mentioned it to be a normalized culture) and said a couple of sentences about being close respectively. My opinion of someone won’t change depending on their sexuality and I’ll support them regardless but it really bothers me when people assume and convince themselves that someone’s sexuality is what they think it is. The company may not even engage in or encourage queerbaiting but their fandom might still continuously make the members sexuality a topic of entertainment

What really gets me is that all of these people that fetishize lgbtq relationships and ship their idols would probably be hateful/angry/devastated if it turns out that their idol is actually gay. I see this a lot with things like BL dramas people love the couple on screen and ship the actors off screen but then if there are rumors that either of the actors is actually gay they get hate thrown at them.

And the point is - when fans “assume” that their idols are straight it doesn’t actually harm those idols in any way BUT when they assume that their fave is gay it actually can harm people and their reputation, especially in such a conservative culture as korean, and I’m not even mentioning how it can ruin the friendships between members because of all the assumptions and conspiracy theories made about their “relationships” by their fans. So no, assuming that your bias is gay or straight are different things and you shouldn’t be coming after those who believe that their idols are straight with this stupid argument “but you’re assuming too! You cannot be sure too! We don’t know the truth! Don’t assume that they are straight because they never said they were!”
