Every time Aaron says “free switch in” when his Pokémon dies it reminds how I comfort myself in fighting games when I drop a combo it’s a “tactical reset”. 😂
@@xsah2 I know and sometimes it actually is good in fighting games to reset a combo instead of dealing very scaled damage. It’s just the way he says it, reminds me of how I comfort myself so I keep a cool head during the fight and don’t get upset.
You killed it as a caster at the Charlotte event! Your videos have the same educational vibe as your casting, making it easier to understand what's happening. As a newer player I really appreciate how you do your work.
Thanks for featuring my team again! I wish I could have showcased this team myself on stream, but glad you are giving it some love. It was a super unique team not only in the mons but the way it played, feels very different from a lot of the meta, and was a pretty strong call for Portland.
I've been testing with Magmar on my own team for a bit now, then I see randomly on my RU-vid feed that someone else has already done it and I was like "God damn it I'm not unique" 😂
The Draco miss in game 4 is really inspiring. The way you talk through unfortunate circumstances and see the positives in everything helps my mental game a lot.
Impeccable coms over the weekend at Charlotte. Really elevates the matches you call. Also you and Nekkra work really well together! (Bad luck losing to Lickitung!!!) Also I was glad to see you call a Brendan win, I feel like the last few times you've called his games he has lost!
New video yay! As someone new to VGC (hoping to play my first event in Knoxville soon) I find your sections breaking down different teams and why certain 'mons are being brought to be SUPER useful. I legitimately think that, if I win any games at all in Knoxville, you will be a large part of making that happen.
Hey Aaron just wanted to say that I loved your commentary at the Charlotte Regional Championships, especially in the top 8 match between Stephen and Arbin! Keep up the good work!
Looking Aaron talking in his brothers game was so wholesome, I get a lot of hype, u are a very good given comentary in the tournaments, I hope u still doing it in the future tournaments
Hey man! Was nice to see you commentating again. :) I was at Charlotte too, got 88th, but unfortunately I never got to say hi to you. I actually sat next to Brendan at 4-0 haha. Keep up the great content and I hope to see you at a future regional!
Hey Aaron! I was Joe from battle number 3! It was super cool to see your perspective on the game and to see those calcs as well! I actually grabbed that rental team from your video 15 mins prior to playing you LOL. Amazing battle and keep up the amazing work as always!
QotD: Gouging Fire! I ran into it at Charlotte this weekend and it was really difficult to take down alongside Kingambit. It makes me really want to try this Gouging + Gambit core in the future and it has a lot of potential. I hope you get to show off Wolfey's winning team soon!
love getting the off-meta showcase teams, especially one that actually performed well at an open teamsheet tourney! and speaking of off-meta, shoutout to your brother for the Iron Jugulis at Charlotte lol
Aaron Thank you so much for taking time to shake my hand and take a selfie with me at Charlotte! It was one of the biggest highlights of my weekend and will treasure the memory forever!! Thanks for starting my competitive journey and keep up the great work.
I just wanted to say it was fantastic getting to watch you call Wolfey’s games, my two favourite vgc/Pokémon creators but your commentary is second to none you can not only hear the passion you have but also feel it. So getting to hear you call Wolfe’s games was incredible. Keep up the good work mate and hope to see you calling/participating in future events but give up on will-o-wisp it’s not meant for people like you and me 😂 Anyway just wanted to show some positivity and support.
54:50 🥲🥲🥲🥲 really interesting team! surprised at how much of an mvp magmar was...!! also this is a little late, but thank you for the hard work at charlotte!! i really really enjoyed your casting, it's making me want to step out of just being a spectator and try out some local matches here in singapore. i couldn't watch the tournament live due to timezones but catching up with the archive was always a treat - especially during your younger brother's match. it was so wholesome and such a joy to see 🥹 i also hope to see more this year - both your casting and your plays! all the best with your future tournaments!!! (qotd - i love poison tera leavanny (sewaddle is my all time favorite) but it just doesn't seem to do well in doubles :( if i had to really pick, maybe assault vest archaludon..!!! ☔🌧💧)
thank you so much for taking the time to write such a kind and thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it!!! hope you can check out an event in Singapore sometime, I really encourage it 😊
I recently won the first event I ever attended using Michael Zhang's Sacramento team, incredibly fun and I'm excited to try out other things he has cooked up! Thanks for the vids
My favorite unique Pokemon to use(though my whole team besides Ogerpon(though it's rock type) is unique) has been Sandy Shocks It gets electroweb now which is fun, I've put tera bug on it because it's one of the few types that made sense, and it gets gravity. Using gravity lets me justify using zap cannon on it, it lets me justify using inferno on my Houndoom, and it synergizes with triple axel on Quaquaval All around pretty fun to use
QOTD: Gyarados. It feels underwhelming at first glance, but having a switch-in into chien pao/entei/urshifu with intimidate is really good right now. It can do very well against the classic rillaboom/incineroar/urshifu core, and can stop farigiraf or incineroar with taunt
It’s good to see Rillaboom still having a place in this regulation. When all the new/returning dragons came in to start Reg F, wasn’t sure if an all grass set still made sense. But with Psy Spam everywhere and people realizing just how strong Tera Grass Miracle Seed Grassy Glide is, it’s here to stay.
Game 3 with Entei missing the Sacred Fire burn and Magmar clinging to 1hp and then burning Entei was comedy gold. Even if Kommo-o would've survived Stomping Tantrum anyway, that bulky Magmar was absolutely phenomenal for taking both attacks.
Charlotte regionals was a very fun weekend and I encourage everybody to check out a regional if they get the chance to. Really enjoyed watching the matches. Got a 6-3 finish and hope to day 2 next time.
QOTD: I like Scream Tail a lot. As a support Pokémon, it enables so many Pokémon to just go off by rendering some Pokémon utterly useless through Encore or Disable. Ah, Choice Specs Flutter Mane is threatening my Raging Bolt with Moonblast. Let me just disable that real quick. Ah, you brought in Incineroar to Fake Out my Ogerpon. Keep doing that.
QOTD: Idk if this counts as “unique” but I think Grimmsnarl is a bit unique, as well as it’s screens. I haven’t seen much people use grimmsnarl for screens even tho it cuts damage in half and it really does help mons set up and just demolish their team. A probable reason why people don’t use screens as much now is because of urshifu, but there is a lot of things you can do to go around it, including tera. I also do know that a lot of people don’t like the slow style, but for those who does, grimmsnarl is great
Everything I've ever learned in Pokémon VGC has been from watching Aaron 'Cybertron' Zheng. Thanks so much for your great insights when you battle. Also amazing job casting at the most recent regional, throughly enjoyed the matches with your commentary (along with everyone else's). 🙌🏼
I cant watch the whole thing due to the length of the video but im always glad to learn competitive from you. I appreciate the team breakdown and the review of its weaknesses. Ive been following your content since the XY days.
9:29 It's Bulletproof, not Soundproof for the previous Kommo-o. It was for handling Flutter Mane's Shadow Ball, plus Tera Steel on the Kommo-o handles FM's Fairy moves.
Magmar has always been my favorite Pokémon and I was heartbroken when gen 6 on it couldn’t get Follow Me, I screamed when I heard it got it back and gained it’s rightful viability
Just wanted to bring it to your attention. You were worried about Lando-I's substitute staying up in Game 5, but your Primarina's Hyper Voice hits right through the sub for huge super effective damage.
Hey guys, I just recently came back to vgc after I played a lot during the ORAS and X/Y era. I really like Kommo-o, so I am really happy you reviewed this team. I wonder if there are any teams which make kommo-o viable in a physically offensive way, since I really think he has great coverage..?
QOTD: Similar to the magmar used here, I really like to use follow me Electabuzz with eviolite! I was really surprised when it survived a double up, including a Landorus-I Life Orb Earth Power!
QOTD: I’ve gotta say Alcremie! It can be pretty bulky and makes for a great support pokemon, being able to boost a pokemon’s attack and special attack by two! I also like running helping hand on it.
i made a team that used elektabuzz in the exact same way his team uses magmar. its cute. they both get follow me/helping hand as well as having statis on contact. (magmars is probably better) theyre actually pretty useful.
Love your content so much Aaron, keep posting these amazing teams, love to watch while I’m working out. I can only dream that one day my content is a excellent as yours
I sat next to Michael Zheng during round 7 of Portland Regionals, and had a friend who had faced him earlier that day, and to say the least everyone was caught off guard by this team 😅 And ofc he was making insane plays on top of that, which allowed him to be able to do well with such a unique team
I've been trying to make the most of stellar tera with malamar, to little avail. it seems like malamar can benefit quite a bit from the +1 to atk and spatk it gains from stellar tera tera blast, but I haven't found a team comp that fits yet. I've tried alolan ninetales to support malamar with aurora veil and whimsicott to support with self fake tears and tailwind. But malamar seems to take too long to build momentum and just gets chipped down too fast. but malamar has good coverage into many meta threats and can defintely output a good amount of damage. perhaps it just belongs on a trick room team, but I haven't built the right trick room team yet.
49:24 I was thinking they went with Extremespeed because they knew Scared Fire couldn't KO Kommo-o with defense boosts, but that a Dragonite Choice Band Stomping Tantrum might get the KO. The problem then is that Dragonite outspeeds Entei and you can just Follow Me with Magmar.
QOTD, i love the players out there using squirtle and wartortle, there have been some pretty cool videos on some weird tech. non super niche pick i would say probably stamina assault vest archaludon sets.
when i saw Latios - Kommo-o i thought this team was running simple beam for a second :D but i guess with open team sheet it wouldn't be that good, still really cool team tho. Also agree on the prima pick, it's amazing right now, so happy i can use it successfully as it's one of my favourite starters.
Watching videos like this makes me wonder how many Eviolite users we haven't seen yet - this video got me thinking about some other Gen 1 Pokemon like Electabuzz and Scyther!
My favorite off-meta mon right now is Excadrill. I've been using it on a team with a core of it, Ttar, Farigiraf, Amongus, supported by bulky Waterpon and Sandstorm Torn. It's really fun and dunks on a lot of the meta mons rn.
Loving your videos! Curious what you think of Ting-Lu as an anti-meta pick? I've enjoyed having it in my roster recently. Makes dealing with the Genies, Chi-Yu, Raging Bolt a lot less scary - weakens Flutter Mane (with the help of Tera) - and often shrugs off Psyspam/Trick room setups. Obviously not much of a help against Urshifu and Ogerpon, but Luey certainly has its benefits.
QOTD: Rhyperior has been my fave so far. Has a decently wide move pool loves trick room and can mitigate its weaknesses with tera and solid rock. Assault vest or weakness policy seem to be the way to go.
don't think its too much of a unique pick, but i really love archaludon in rain. Body press and mirror coat give some really fun coverage moves and with stamina + assault vest it gets really bulky
Two things, heatwave for chip/burn chance instead of overheat ain't too shabby. Knock off is also a sweet option. Weirdly electrabuzz has the same def/spdef/hp and also gets helping hand, follow me, protect. Sadly Elebuzz doesn't do the burns and instead brings static which is nice, but burns/fire is handy.
Qotd: I've been using a Quaquavale on a semi rain team and doing fairly well with it. Sitting at around 2000 in masterball rank. Water urshifu is probably better in every way but I don't want to use it and I love Quaquavale.
Okay, i'll love if someone explained me, because i don't really know why you would run flash cannon instead of iron head in kommo-o for example, because it has better atk that Spatk, they do the same damage, and it counters flatter mane way better than flash cannon since it is physical instead of special. I just find it off in the set idk
there wasn't much you could do in that game 4, i think maybe going for wood hammer draco meteor into corviknight on it's first turn using roost might have put it at low enough health for a grassy glide knockout follow up. Not sure what the numbers are there. But with flutter mane and the ogre in the back it's still a tricky situation!
I haven't watched the battles yet but just as you're going through the team I feel like a Dragon Tera Nasty Plot Gholdengo with Tailwind support would be absolutely lethal to this team. Maybe in practice it's not as bad of a matchup but just off hand I can't see how the team deals with it and it's a fairly common thing to run in to. Hopefully you run in to one during the battles so I can see how you would navigate such a threat with this team.
QOTD: I’m a big fan of the position Gyarados is in at the moment. I was the only D2 Gyarados at Charlotte, but I feel like it’s much better than that! Bonus answer, I also had Latios on my team, which is well positioned into lando-I like you mentioned. Also the only D2 Latios, and the next highest Iron Hands after Donnelly. I know you’ve already used my friend PTPs Gouging Fire team, but I was using support Howl. I’d pass the team off in a heartbeat!
That team is really creative and shows that Meta is strong, but not the only way to go. Always be brave enough to try out something else. QOTD: In regulation F one of the most surprising ones I came across was Alcremie. We've seen sets with it back in Sw/Sh often next to a GMAC Lapras, but in S/V it's not as easy to use . Jamie Boyd made a video about it that goes more into detail about the weird speed tier and role it fulfills. Despite all that I had a great time with my opponents who used it and cheers to them to use one (。・ω・。)ノ♡
I'm not sure I get the logic of tyranitar with sand stream. I get that it makes it extra bulky but i feel like it doesn't mesh well with grassy terrain and soul dew very much.
