They could make it so that every 3rd or 4th box u get a option to choose one of three new cards. That way you would habe a higher chance of getting a card u want and delay the ones u are not interested in at all. I think this way it would still take some time to fill your collection but cards you want or need are more optainable. I feel like this would be a good idea to keep the longevity of the game but also be less frustrating and more rewarding for the players. You could also add a „Premium Pick“ every 350-500 ish levels you get a pick of guaranteed series four cards and every 500-700ish levels where you could pick 1 of 2 series 5 cards. Let me know your opinions on this take because i think its a good way of meeting everyones interests

Also something to keep in mind is Snap is only officially 5 months old lol. It took them a couple months after launch for them to realize they needed a Token Shop. And since then, they’ve gotten complaints about Collectors Tokens so they’ve started doing Token Tuesdays and the recent ‘More Magic’ too
@Zeekfox
@Zeekfox Год назад
This definitely hits on something I've felt. In Hearthstone, when I kept up, I could save my dust and craft the needed cards for any particular deck I wanted. Sure, some decks were more expensive than others (I certainly remember "Wallet Warrior" lists), but without needing to collect all the cards, I would have what I wanted. Over in Snap, however, you don't get nearly enough tokens to build the deck you want, plus the fact that specific cards may not even appear in the shop. So while you're stuck on a ladder full on Galactus and Thanos, you simply won't have access to those cards. Even if you decide you are willing to spend for them, you don't even have on demand access if you didn't already pin them in the shop. It's just ridiculous.

I think something to consider is that they’re clearly treating Marvel Snap more so as a mobile game as opposed to a card game. Mobile games generally have pretty steep progression while giving you the option to pay some money to make that progression go by faster. And even in that case, I’d argue it’s MUCH more free to play friendly than a majority of gacha games that are out there.

Marvel snap, compared to other card games, allows for a much much higher variety of decks. This is because having a deck that's unpredictable or has pieces your opponent doesn't expect is greatly rewarded because of the snap mechanic. It's not the player with the best win rate the one who wins most cubes, it's the one who is best at guessing who is winning at any point of the match Thus, in Marvel snap, nearly all cards have a home in a deck, meme decks work and trying to get the full collection is simply unnecessary

I dropped Hearthstone shortly after I started playing the Marvel Snap beta after having played HS since almost the beginning. Ever since I dropped HS I've been happier. Being a FTP player in HS felt like I was stuck constantly having to play dailies/weeklies every 3 days that could sometimes take a few hours just so I can get 1 good deck in the next expansion that get's nerfed a few weeks in or just turns out it wasn't fun to play. Snap is such a breath of fresh air, I have all the pool 1/2/3 cards and have a couple pool 4 cards without spending a dime. I feel like I see almost every card in snap being played too, while in HS at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the cards in an expansion are useless and never see play in any good/fun decks. I feel like their video was made out of spite because people are moving on from Hearthstone to other card games, sure the game can be expensive if you spend money on it, but as a FTP player Marvel Snap is WAY more FTP friendly then hearthstone ever was.

I agree with your sentiments regarding the mid pool 3 lull. I'm current there and for a while I didn't have aero. I was forced to play sera counter style decks to compete and I was routinely dominated by aero. It was a frustrating time. I recently landed aero from the token shop and life is so much better with aero. She's truly the best card in the game imo, only shadowed by thanos. I disagree with some of what this video says because Aero is sooo good and only pool 3. Shang is also crazy good right now and is a pool 2 card. I think snap needs to make it so you don't move into the gold chests (whatever collection level that is) until you have all of pool 3 and maybe the gold chests just have a small chance of pool 4 and 5.

I think Snap is a GREAT free to play game. Players just have an unhealthy relationship to it. We players need to take a step back and think about how the game is set-up and what that tells you about the way Devs designed it to be enjoyed. You aren’t EVER going to have a full collection. The game isn’t designed that way unless you spend an ungodly amount of cash. There is something great about that. You aren’t going to run into many whales that have all the cards and can blow you out. Everyone is looking to unlock something. It’s great! I just log in- get my challenge credits- log out. Perhaps pick up a game here and there on the toilet. People need to chill with the outrage and frustration and understand this cornerstone of the game’s development.

I like how it becomes always a comparison between games rather than an observation of the state of games in general. Firstly, I do not think that a digital card should have the price tag it has, even as an average between games if you want. But i can see that that thought may be challenged with reasonable arguments. What i do not see acceptable at all is to risk exposing younger players to practices that teach them to undervalue money, to have grown up playing games that teach them that is only natural that who has more money is deserving of advantages, and that praises that they are wrong to think otherwise. That is no good.

When I first started playing I gave myself a $70 cap. I figured that’s how much I pay for ps5 games, and after 7 months if I was still playing and paying for it, the developers deserve it. As I’m getting closer to month 7 I’m starting to just look at the $10 a month the way I would a streaming service. I’ve spent way more monthly on netflix which had plenty of content and still didn’t offer half of the entertainment I get from snap. As someone who really enjoys being able to add personality to my decks through variants, rarely is the season pass purchase based strictly on the included card but more so the extra opps to gain “cosmetics”. If there is a month I don’t have $10 to give, then I won’t but I think a lot of the hate that second dinner and streamers get surrounding this game when they have been so present and accommodating is kinda strange.

In my own experience, I used to spend 100$ on HS per expansion not caring about the rank I reach, it's been a while that HS became so unfun, testing team is no longer there, at first I was a f2p in HS and it was a pain to get dust/gold to create new cards and remember we had to win 3 games to get 10 gold the pack costs 100.. at marvel snap I joined with the world launch I only purchased 3 passes since, payed 30$ totally while I spend more than 2k on HS, I enjoyed snap much more I know there are issues with card acquisition and rng.. but we have to remember that HS also took it's time to introduce rank floor, mmr, new reward system and duplicate protection.. since it's launch Snap has offered free resources and free rewards more than HS did in a long time.. I was lucky to open Hellicarrier, Darkhawk and Luke Cage before they dropped pool.. my own problem with Snap is bots fighting the top players while the ones below (40+) especially late in the month we keep fighting players with higher mmr and/or better cards.. and the issue of recently nerfing dark Hawk and buffing Thanos which himself sees no play, people play it for the stones only, it's a new game they have better communication unlike HS tbh, the artwork and graphics are much better unlike HS new portraits only sylvanas is cool, the diamond cards are mostly for mages, and the new signature card failed miserably I quit HS and I'm happy I did I didn't even bother to finish this seasons's pass and I don't care about the game anymore game just pushed everyone off except for BG players and look at mercenaries launch.. all they explained is there are 3 expensive bundles you can buy and that was okay? Weird from HS mathematicians tbh they didn't mention that

I do think that as the game grows, new players will need to start with more cards or have accelerated acquisition vs those that started in the first or second season. So far, the devs haven’t done anything to doubt their design ability.

So I've played Snap for about 3 month and only thing I purchased were season pass. What have I achieved so far? I have reached to infinite rank 3 times, my collection is lacking some series 4 and almost all series 5 cards.(I have plenty of variants, I buy only Dan Hipp varients with gold...yes-yes, I like his style) Does it make me weak on a leader? Hell, no! Do I have fun playing this game? Yes. *sometimes I am a bit salty, but it's my personal problem. If you don't want to spend lots of money you will still be competitive and you will definitely have fun.

Hearthstone is completely free after the first rotation, I have 237-239 cards from the expansion, and as free to play I get 12000-14000 gold every 4 months 2000 for the mini set, and 100-120 packs (and 20 packs if u get legend every month), its something around 9-11 legendaries + 2 in mini set + 3 for progression track and 1 always for free. 16 legendaries form 29, and I craft from 7 to 9 each expansion its 11200 - 14400 dust (rest don't like or they bed), if u disenchant 3 rotated expansions u get 55080 dust (18360 for each of the next 3 expansions and its if don't count golden and duplicate cards, in reality, u have more then 20000 dust). Of course, it works only if u play standard as I do, u need to pay for the first 2-3 expansions or just be not very competitive first 2-3 expansions, but after HS like free to play game. In Snap u can't do that, I can get surfer or all new series 5 cards only after a few months if don't pay, it's like if in HS u could buy for gold only the last expansion packs, not current, or all new legendary cost 8000 dust after months or two 4800 and when the new expansion came out its cost get to 1600 dust it would mast u to buy packs or get craft only 1-2 legendary. And, I sink, u get 1 tier 1-2 deck for your choice for one class in HS when finishing tutorial if I don't mistake. I stop playing SNAP at level 1536 at that moment have only pool 2 complete deck with dino.

I finally made it through pool 3 before the start of March. I’ve bought a healthy amount of packs, but I’m far from a whale. Maybe a new game’s worth of spending or so. My best advice is to try your best to skip the variants and invest all of your gold into the 500 credit, 400 gold packs. You’ll cruise through your collection rank, and naturally unlock variants via the climb and the battlepass. I play the game because it’s fun. Monetization can improve and it has been. They’re doing a good job.

I played HS from beta through boom. I actually love the way snap does it. But… I hated it before about 1300. That’s about when I got 2 solid decks that I could play and make it to gold /plat. It’s just a different way and doesn’t give you the instant gratification that so many other games play into.

The problem is snap only put out 5 cards a month, the contents is significantly less than card games like heathstone, therefore, each card should feel more expensive. And most new releases are unplayable, which offsets the frustration of difficult card acquisition a little bit... But mid pool3 is torture, not doubt about it. I spent a lot of money then, it felt so bad that with that amount of money, you were getting so little! After pool 3 complete with Thanos and Galactus in my collection, thing gets a lot better, I can see myself spending a small amount of money just for the SP, and still being able to enjoy the game.

So, I am at about level 1,200, but at least since level 1,000, it takes 12 collection levels to get a crate. From my experience across the past 250 levels, I got 5 new cards (even counting original arts for cards I bought additional variants for). 1 card for every 50 levels, or about 1 card per 4 crates. Assuming I keep getting crates every 12 levels, and I get 1 card per 4 crates, I am expected to complete my pool 3 collection at around collection level 4,000. Here's the thing, I actually do not mind this. The thing that kills me is that it takes a while for me to get a new card, so if that card sucks or isn't something I am interested in, I am SOL for another 50 levels or so. I also recently hit net 0 shards so now I am limited by how many shards I have, not by how much I play. Personally, I would like changes to the collection system which is only limited by how much I play, not how much I have in currency ( or a system which allows me to earn currency from playing ), and I would like some ability to influence the types of cards I get, or at the very least let me reroll the first choice if it sucks ass.

I think the critique of this video is premised on the idea that every snap player's goal is to own every card from every pool asap. I personally don't feel that way at all. If I have all pool 3 and some pool 4 cards, I'll be happy enough with the options I got. Progress after pool 3 will be tiring, but I I think the game is perfectly enjoyable without series 5. That being said, I am very much on board with your suggestion that they should simply introduce new cards for lower pools as well. A card like Stature could very well be considered a pool 2 power level, and I think it's kinda reidiculous to have her locked away from 98% of players for the next like 6 months.

I think a great response to the “crafting” complaint would be letting us spend our collector tokens freely. Right now I have collectors tokens lying around from Tuesday’s bundles, but the shop is just slowly rotating through the absolute worst pool 4 and 5 cards that I have no interest in. As for monetization, I feel like you need to discuss the f2p experience, the whale experience, and then the experience of whatever you want to call light spenders (I like dolphin). F2P in Snap is great pre-pool 3, and alright during pool 3. Sure, you don’t have all the newest cards, but f2P Heartstone isn’t going to give you all the cards either. Battle pass is a great option for dolphin players, especially if these Token Tuesdays become permanent. You can certainly spend a LOT of money as a whale. I have no comment on this, as I’m not a whale and the only whales I know are content creators.
@AveSicarius
@AveSicarius Год назад
I've certainly seen whale's in my games (as in Avatar's and Variants from the expensive bundles) but the majority are either F2P higher ranked (which is completely possible if you work out what to do early in Pool 3 and get lucky with a few card drops) or dolphins who have the SP (which is what I do and I might occasionally buy one of the smaller bundles, like the starter bundle, that give extra gold for the price) which seems fair to me. The people who have crazy decks aren't often whale's, they've just been playing much longer than I have. Unfortunately I think part of this is the current issues with matchmaking. Immediately out of low Pool 3, if your win rate is decent, you will run into an absolute wall of people who have strong series 4/5 card's and know how to use them. I was about 60x cl when I started seeing Thanos decks, Shuri-Red Skull, Death Wave, Galactus, and other peak meta decks that I really had little answer for. I've managed to make a few decks that can do well against the meta now, though my P3 drops were still pretty rubbish and I had to rely on the new Pool 3 claim shop for Doom to make a semi-competitive control Sandman deck with Psylocke for some ramp (because I have neither Electro or Wave), but even though it's still RNG, you will eventually get decent drops, but sometimes it can take a while (hopefully much less now the Pool 3 shop is up and running). But I fully understand why people in early-mid Pool 3 would get really frustrated, because I did too, it doesn't feel fair when your opponent has everything and you have much weaker card's. Hell I ran into several Dark Hawk Mystique decks immediately as I left Pool 2, which was completely wild as I had no real way to counter them until much later. It's easy to rationalize this as P2W, which is why I think people do so, but honestly, most of these people have just been playing much longer as the community is pretty well established and we haven't yet seen a massive influx of new blood. I've also had both Thanos and Galactus pop up in my token shop, but I could never justify pinning them, despite really wanting Galactus, because I simply don't have the other card's to make it work (now that Galactus is going to show up more frequently due to the changes to the shop I'll definitely go for him next) so I had to let them go as my tokens were better spent elsewhere (I got Knull and two other good card's for half the price of Galactus). It sucks because I really want to make Nimrod work, but you really just have to wait for credits and make do. It's just disheartening when you see other people with those deck's and you really want to play them but realize it's going to take quite a while (and they might not even be super viable) by the time you get there. That's kinda the name of the game though with CCGs. Honestly I wouldn't advise anyone who started playing and enjoys the game to buy at least one season pass. It's pretty cheap, 9 quid is a fraction of what most games cost now, and you get significant value out of it. Save the Gold from the SP drops, and from caches, then spend them on Token Tuesdays and you will very rapidly get what you want within a month or two. You just have to be patient and find a deck you can have fun with, and there are plenty of really fun decks that aren't meta (I quite like Collector +Devil Dino Deck's, some cheap Variants of Knull decks that basically hard counter Galactus decks if they play it, and I'm also a fan of Ongoing decks, though I need Omega Red and Mojo to make my Onslaught deck somewhat viable post-Pool 3) so it isn't like we are totally out of choice. I really didn't want to play Kazar deck's all the time, so I simply made a variant that has higher cost card's alongside it with sunspot, multiple win-conditions and you get to feel the endorphin rush of playing something huge at the end.

Marvel Snap is so much better in comparison. If you purchased every single battle pass for Snap you would end up paying $120 compared to one expansion in Hearthstone which can be well over that if you buy the big, small, and tavern pass (this also doesn’t guarantee you receive all the cards without spending dust!?) So much cheaper to play. Time spent vs fun factor is also a HUGE improvement. Also having the ability to suedo win by dipping out early in a bad rng game actually feels great. But, in Marvel snap i think the disparity between players who spend vs players who don't is much smaller because as long as you have the core cards of a few archetypes you can still compete with people who have all the cards unlocked. The real sufferer is more so the people who just want to fill the collection like a pokedex because they'll most likely never do it without spending

All games need to make money, they are products. HS, Snap, and other card games are on the same boat when it comes to that. The difference to me is when monetization becomes predatory, which happened to Diablo Immortal and other mobile games. The game stops being fun the minute you stop spending. In my opinion, Snap has so much variety and content that even before spending a single dime it is still fun later - you may not own as competitive decks after 3000+ CL as before, but the game is still fun as heck. This doesn't mean monetization in videogames in general couldn't improve though.
