hate to break the terrible news but Foxy arc was Canonical... my guess is that Luffy and Shanks will one day have a Davy Back Fight instead of a straight brawl. so they introduced this via Foxy, that is unless Oda scrapped the idea after Foxy arc's reception.@@sarafontanini7051

No, that's stupid. I'm not sure if you're caught up to the manga or not, but with the way things are going, seeing Foxy and the Davy Back fights come up again is kind of likely to happen. I mean, if [spoilers for the manga] Wapol can become an important character again, so can characters like Foxy and Enel. I think it's the animes fault for ruining this arc. It had a lot of great character moments but the anime ruined it.

well for me it's the fact that i cant stand lowdown cheating assclowns... then it doesnt help that it simply just took too damn long to finish. finally, it was lacking any real weight like ToonStarterz said, it really is. sure, it was goofy.. but we have goofy moments all the time, leaves it feeling like unnecessary filler.@@elviswilliams1131

@@elviswilliams1131 The anime version should have been 5 episodes long including Aokiji while staying true to the manga - an all would have been fine. What we got is an extra-long arc that did do the opposite it should do to Luffy, Usopp and Robin while completely missing why the Davy Back Fight begun and how it should have ended (in the the straw hats don't take any of the highly sought shipwrights that weren't even clearly offered in the anime).

It’s mainly because of the extra three filler games the anime added. If it was just the three games they had in the manga, it would’ve been a better arc.

Online fans mostly don't know what they're talking about. They're watching it for their own agenda, skypiea was okay, but I get is a wanting to do sometging. While long ring long land and thriller bark just go with the comedy with an interesting parts of the story getting big.

This is why I don’t watch the anime and just stick to the manga. Poor pacing and filler in the anime would drive me up the wall. There’s no such issues with the manga. Particularly Skypea is a fantastic arc if you read it.

@jarosbodytko6462 The skypieans, shandorians and priests are pretty meh, and the whole save town goal was done way less interesting here. The setting taking place mostly in a foresty area was a letdown too.

Totally agree! Usually upon first watch/read, people don't really understand how much this arc contributes to both the world building and the relationships between our crew. Such a shame there are so many who can't see past the wacky exterior.

personally, i'm a fan of the One Piece is under Long Ring Long Land theory

So watch multiple episodes of things that don't matter to get to a fight that shows Luffy being outclassed(its already been shown twice with Enel and Crocodile) And the next arx does that even better when he then learns and unlocks 2nd and 3rs gear

100% agree! I didn't regard Foxy and his story importance at first, but after some age and experience, it turns out his presence had far more narrative weigh than I was seeing. After Luffy smacked God around, Foxy was the first of a string of dominoes that kicked the main characters in upgrading their arsenal, and leading to, for me, the best arc of One Piece.

@@RychuAlolan yea after some filler episodes about the strawhats losing their memories and a re-run in with the foxy pirate crew on a completely different island. Since the encounter with Aokiji didn’t happen on Long Ring Long Island, I didn’t necessarily consider it apart of this arc but more like the start of the Water 7 arc.

The zoro sanji rivalry started in little guarden though

Zoro took a fart once and I thought wow that is definitely one of many that shows why Zoro deserves to be vice captain.

he was also being a big bro to Chopper and Chopper looks up to him as a mentor on how to be a man.

​@@MorrisWilsonFvcks There's not that many moments in the show where anybody on the ship is challenged or disciplined in a meaningful way. On a real ship maintaining order and stopping mutiny is way more important than being able to swing a sword really hard.

Yeah, I looked back at where it took place to see how long it lasted, and it probably doesn't help that it followed what many seem to consider the best filler arc and was followed by an arc that was way shorter in comparison, which ended with a *second* run-in with Foxy

All of that with the everlasting goof of the stpry almost Tom and Jerry-esque with the wild goose chase and tricks

The anime version massively (!) hurts most of the themes Oda wants to introduce here.

​@@f.carasind4188 Nothing that made anime only quit the only mistake they made was reducing the fillers. The theme is here about crewmates losing and playing a game also they did a good job of putting in extra fillers so we saw Robin being a crew member and they did a good job adding another filler so the Water 7 could be more devastating to watch it.

@@gaminginvirinch3339 I know of at least two anime onlys that had to convinced to watch further because they hated Luffy in this arc. They couldn't simply believe how he treats the lives of his crew members here and had to be convinced with the manga version that a "real" Luffy exists. The theme of this arc also has absolutely nothing to do with games but much with the concept of comrades and "heart over reason". Luffy agrees to the game only because the horse was shot (not in the anime here he is simply an idiot). Luffy takes Chopper back immediately against Nami's advice to take Foxy to win the entire thing (in the anime he let's his friend in the hands of the enemy to choose a horse against all rules). Anime Luffy agrees to a second match despite already having experienced of losing a friend (manga Luffy would likely have killed him for this). The straw hats are especially presented with the much needed shipwrights in the manga but decline them. The anime made this a mass event where nearly all of Foxy's crew should now be considered at least honorary straw hats for a short time because they were in the crew for a very short time. Luffy fought against Aokiji well knowing that he had absolutely no chance. All of this events lead to Robin loving this crew for their "heart over reason" approach and doing it herself in Water 7 with the deal with CP9. I'm rather sure that most anime viewers notice that something isn't right with this arc but they don't know why. One simple reason is that next to nothing is left intact from the manga - besides Zoro/Sanji which many people like. Even the first race is changed to make it a mass event instead of a more focussed competition with Usopp, Nami and Robin where Usopp can show his value before Water 7 (the anime robbed him of this as well). And I'm a clear advocate for more filler but please not within a canon arc. Nobody would have had any issue if filler arcs (maybe even with Foxy) were placed before the events of Long Ring Long Island and after the fight with Aokiji. I also think that the mistreatment of this canon arc was one of the reasons why filler became so rare after it.

I got all that from the arcs ahead of it, and some of that even before it. It's just not a great arc to watch the anime. I probably wouldn't hate it if my initial experience was the manga. The reason people recommend skipping it is because, besides Aokiji's surprise appearance (I would never recommend skipping that in particular), the Davy Back fights are entirely contrived. Sanji and Zoro always argue, but always have the interest of the crew in mind first. Davy Back may have been the introduction to these things but every arc afterward does those concepts much more effectively. This is because japanese storytelling relies a lot of retelling things. And when the overall story retells the same themes and demonstrates them repeatedly, I would say that this introduction to those concepts was just plain sloppy, **in the anime**. The manga is less of a headache even if I wasn't enthused to re-read it.

G8*

The G8 filler arc is the only saving grace for the anime in this part of the story. Until today I'm not sure if the teams for this arcs weren't switched by mistake. One created a filler arc that is so good that it can be seen as nearly canon. The other adapted a canon arc so bad that it is now very close to filler.

Honestly I think both were fine. Long ring long land wasn’t great by any means and could even be considered bad (not me though, I personally consider it enjoyable) but it gets way too much hate. People make it out to be terrible but it’s really not as bad as it’s made out to be. Also unpopular opinion but g8 was my least favourite filler arc 😅 sorry for the long paragraph

Or are you just condescendingly implying that I can't have personal opinions because I'm an idiot, so I parrot what I heard somewhere else? So what is it? Gaslighting attempt or calling me an idiot? LRLL, *in the manga*, is amazing. The filler added to it is mediocre to awful, and the extent of filler added to it, including the extra Foxy arcs, makes the whole experience *REALLY bad*. And I stand by what I said, it's the kind of filler that should get people fired, because I know it's factually driven people away from the anime. This is what MY OWN personal opinion, not what "people make it out to be" Agree to disagree in regards to G-8. To me it's amazing (for a filler)

Well I wouldn’t be surprised if people have. I can understand people not liking it. Personally I liked along Ring Long Land but I didn’t find it short. I think it was way longer than it needed to be. Felt dragged out but overall a fun arc

Because we want to catch up with one piece without boring add ons that won't come back. I'm here on one piece because the fans promised that everything comes back and matters. So i say it now, fk the fillers. Except for g8

I don’t find them boring. I’m sure a lot of people do though and that’s fine. It’s understandable if people find those fillers boring. Sorry for this long paragraph

The difference is that you read it this time. The anime version is a really bad adaption.

I'm very invested in One Piece but the anime version of this arc is sadly trash. It will hopefully treated way better in the live action or the remake.

I legitimately thought all that hype about the greatest crew member was about him, so I was surprised, albeit pleasantly, by the Merry.
