Humble 😂 He always keeps throwing shade at Lampard because he knows the Chelsea man was thrice the player he was. He was trying to virtue signal himself in this interview. I’m sure he’d have answered differently if he was asked Scholes or Lampard/Gerrard or Lampard
Lampard!? No comparison kid. Fat Frank couldn’t lace Scholes’ boots. Ask any of the worlds best player who the best English player was. Always give the same answer.
Paul Scholes is the most humble legend of the game. Absolute top class legend who is so above the players he gets compared to but acts like he's inferior
I compare him to Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Pirlo, Gerrard is a different player his game up until 32 was more of a pure number 10. Before anyone @'s me he played nominally as a cm but didn't have the positional discipline of a Scholes post 2004 and could not measure the tempo of the game. Gerrard was always kick and rush.
@@LeonParrella a kick and rush, athlete with a very decent right foot who played with passion and grit. Gerrard is not to be underrated. They were different players.
@@DirtyJamesUKA United fan who's always admired Gerrard, not just for how good he was, I admired his loyalty. Shearer, Totti, Van Persie, all players who sacrificed silverware to remain at a club they loved. Gerrard is without question the best example of a player who's made this sacrifice. He could have gone to any team on the continent and gotten into their starting XI regardless of who was already there. Systems would be changed to accommodate a player like Gerrard (no different from the national team's coaches who had the Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes dilemma) The Premier League's best ever 'all rounder' in my opinion, BUT, like you said Gerrard's passion was probably his greatest attribute (which is saying something) Scholes on the other hand was just ridiculous. Feared on the edge of the box, goals from vollies, shots from distance was what got him noticed. How many midfielders have scored a hat trick at a World Cup, their first World Cup?! Scholes has! (VS Tunisia, '98 group stage) Sir Alex thought signing Veron, playing Scholes in a more advanced role would be for the good of the club, it wasn't, Veron was made to piss off, Veron!!!? Best passer the Premier League's ever seen, hitting a ball to 50m, 60m+ to a teammate's feet, perfectly weighted passes for teammates to run onto, AND, THE VOLLEY VS VILLA! Couldn't tackle to save his life but as far as controlling the tempo, dictating play, MAKING OTHER PLAYERS LOOK BETTER THAN THEY WERE, Scholes
Stop lying to yourself. Scholes ain't on Gerrards level playing field nor is iniesta or xaxi. He Destroys them all. Plus he destroyed them in his prime. Scholes is James milners level. Stop using this humble exuse. You utd fans lie. You got exposed by facts and you can't handle the facts. Gerrards is miles clear of Scholes. So listen to the facts by Scholes
As a Liverpool fan hes correct on they're too different players. Scholes was a very special midfielder and dictated the play. Gerrard was an animal and had to pull his team through. Absolute legends both
@@2003Rooney are you a donkey? Too different is literally a thing, like if you say "we are different but we are not too different to be friends" or "oh we are too different to be friends". Go buy a brain for crying out loud. Typical gen z L
They don't make them this humble anymore. If you really followed both players closely you will know that everything he has said is spot on. It's so refreshing to hear a great player speak so honestly about a competitor's talent. Pure class! Big up Scholesy. ManUtd4Life.
That’s as honest an answer you will ever hear. I’m a Liverpool fan but also I’m a fan of football, scholes was a ridiculous talent, and to hear him say that, shows how humble he is but also shows the respect he has for his fellow players and their talents.
@@theoneandonlylegend5500couldn't tackle. Had a belly on him. Stamina was shite. The only thing he had was vision and disburtion. The only two. Gerrard had everything a midfielder had
@@josephbuckley5961Couldn't tackle, bit of a belly, no stamina.....is that Maradona you're referring to? On that basis would you would pick Mo Farah over scholes?
As a liverpool fan that is absolutely brilliant the level of respect he gives stevie. And im sure stevie will have the exact same respect for scholes who was an absolute baller. His goal against villa is still one of my favourite goals even though i hate united 😂
@@gavinmitchell4477 you do realize what goat means right? Paul Scholes has never been the Greatest of all time at anything, especially not in a Man Utd shirt, I'm not a United fan, but I can name quite a few players better than him.
@@bzilla1090 yup and for me he is what part of that don’t you get for me he’s United best what don’t you get? Just because you think others are better and I think Scholes is best is my opinion like you have yours. Just curious who do you think is best?
@@gavinmitchell4477 this isn't about opinion, it's just fact, you can make an example and say Scholes is better than Zidane but he isn't now is he, this isn't make believe it's reality. Nothing to do with opinions it's just fact.
As a liverpool fan, I always considered Scholes an amazing player. As a kid I remember seeing him position outside the box for every corner, if the ball gets knocked out he was always there! And boy could he shoot! Two different players, but I wouldn't say if Scholes did play for Liverpool I reckon he would of smashed it.
Love the honesty and the humbleness. This is exactly right. Scholes wasn't that inspirational player like Stevie he was different, a more elegant player that made the team tick.
Scholes always is very humble. From an Arsenal fan I would say possibly the best English player we’ve had, although I think Bellingham and These new younger English generation will take us to new heights.
Scholes is very humble like Gary Neville who was a much better player than he lets on- clearly not caring about individual accolades/ image and more being happy to be part of a great team was the mentality and culture at United at the time
@davidpickett5859 fergie bias that was the whole country licked his ring piece, even if cafu would of been english neville would of started ahead of him for england
Scholes was better than Gerrard at a certain role in midfield, as that of CAM, but Scholes knows that in other CM positions Gerrard was far better. Scholes long range passing is just a bit better than Gerrard, both as good on each foot and a better playmaker. But Gerrard was a good tackler and was lethal at long range shots, look how many goals he scored more than Scholes, Scholes was also a terrible tackler and i come from the same town as Scholes.
@@Dazfos Gerrard was really good at passing. He could also ping a ball accurately while running at full speed (and Gerrard was fast). Not many players can do that. Many slow down to pick a pass. I dunno why he gets so much disrespect. He was the type of midfielder I'd have loved to be, and I'm a United fan. Just like he rated Robson even as a rival, I rate him.
I understand why he says what he does and he is not incorrect. I haven't looked up the stats but I would imagine Scholes pass rate was unrivalled. Scholes and Keane in the middle is all you need.
It's a shame we never got to see Gerrard in his final form. Scholes and Lampard played under world class managers and in world class teams. Gerrard never had that luxury.

I've been following Utd since 62-63 and this guy would comfortably make my best team during that period. Not only was he a class act on the pitch he's the same now he has retired and his humilty when comparing himself with Steven Gerrard is a true measure of the man.
Huge respect for Scholesy for this coming from a liverpool fan you can't get any more humble than that. Not only to recognize how good they both were but to know he couldn't do the same job at liverpool really changed my opinion on him
Lot of Love for Paul Scholes even before i seen this vid. His era was unarguably the greatest Premier league era there ever was and to just be in thay conversation is a testament to all three of our country’s finest footballers ever 🇬🇧 🏴
Won everything at club level, destroyed the best, and got the recognition from the opposition, and still so humble. Come on Paul, it's ok, you can say it, you were one of the best midfielders, ever, three moves ahead. Gerard will forever go down as a one man army. He was out of this world.
He is being very humble. Scholes is actually more technically gifted that Gérard. Messi said they spoke about Scholes a lot in the Barca academy La mesia. Scholes was an integral part of the successful era of United. His success and trophies won speaks volumes
You never saw Gerrard play did you. His passing was average. He was nowhere near Scholes level He didn’t play more defensive. Just shows you don’t really know what you’re talking about
