I am glad to see my parcel for you arrived even with a small mishap. The round 50 cent piece is worth up to $25 Au nearly more than the paper notes combined. (Edit $10 to $15 dollars each silver coin on today market) Happy taste testing a small part of the Adelaide hills. Keep the videos coming 😀

I had two of the round 50 cent coins til a friend came to visit and stole them......and many foreign coins my cousin had brought back for me after travelling the world. A friend I had known for years. He gave them to his brother, who (surprisingly) showed them to me. I had at the time not known my friend had stole my coins til his brother showed me the 50 cent coins, one of which had a noticeable chip in the head side of the coin. I recognised the chip straight away and stared (glared) at my friend, who looked down in shame. He has had nothing but bad luck and health issues since, because karma is a beeetch.

The Adelaide Hills are amazing. Not many people that live here in Adelaide really appreciate what the Hills have to offer. And that's fine by me, don't like crowds anyway. Some of the best riding roads in Australia (apart from the ones that have fallen into disrepair...yes, I mean YOU, Gorge Rd!) The less idiots on the road, the better I like it. Some spectacular scenery,(apart from the nearly bone-dry reservoirs), fantastic pubs and restaurants, bakeries, cafe's and more.

I like that a guy from Victoria sent you Queensland Beer. When their VB or Victorian Bitter is pretty good too. I loved the older money and one of those pennies is my birth year. There was a penny, a half penny and a farthing. That was a quarter of a penny and before me. My Dad had some and back when he used them they bought a big bag of lolly’s. The 50 cent coin is worth around $10.00 last time I checked. Oh no! I just read the post from the lady who sent it. It is worth around $25.00 now. Just for the silver content. I thought it was odd that my Nana’s milkman made a special trip to pick up her money until I was there one day. She was paying for her milk in just those coins and he was making a lot of money off a not young and very kind lady. Until he met me, I may not stand up for me but no one tried that with my Nana. Way back then they were worth $7.50 each. My favourite brand is Berenberg in many things. I love the Blueberry jam. My husband is my carer and for lunch yesterday I asked if I could please have some mustard pickles. He looked really happy that I asked and came back with a jar of Berenberg mustard pickles with my name on the label. He made me laugh and he is very sweet. That was the first time I tried that brand in mustard pickles and I am tough because I have only ever loved one brand since I was small. Berenberg beat it, they are so good. Enjoy.

The round 50c was discontinued because it was produced with silver content exceeding the coin face value. Even poor dull coins are sold for over $5, and premium coins for quite large sums. Many are horded as they just on silver content now are far above face value, even more than when the multi sided current style replaced the round ones.
@MonstaAU
@MonstaAU 2 года назад
The US has constitutional (or 'junk') silver, so their older coins that are pre-1965 are mostly 90% silver, so this concept is not that foreign to them. After 1965 the silver content went down to 40% on US coins, and to zero from 1971.
@johnd8892
@johnd8892 2 года назад
Even some of the older one and two shilling pieces had higher silver content. Were kept in families as safer for the Christmas pudding tradition. For quite a few years after 1966 you would still see them in change. Then the price of silver rose rapidly in the seventies or so and the old silver coins were scooped up by the illegal melting down merchants.
@helmuthschultes9243
@helmuthschultes9243 2 года назад

@IWrocker, the paper money ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100) used to have a very thin metal strip inside, running from the top to the bottom of each note, which determined they were not counterfeit (if the notes did not have the metal strip, they were deemed counterfeit, invalid) so if you hold your notes up to the light, holding each end of each note you should be able to see the metal strip. 🙂 P.S.: Australia was the first country in the world to use plastic notes, and our notes are the hardest money in the world to counterfeit. P.P.S.: Try not to handle the coins too much, specially without gloves on. Fingerprints will devalue the coins. Back when we had pennies, things were much cheaper, like in America, particularly from the early 1900's til the 1950's. But innthen1960's kids would use them to buy lollies (candy, sweets).

My grandfather used to collect all of his 1and 2 cent coins. When he passed he left me the amount of this collection in his will. When I turned 18yrs old my inheritance was $6,150. That was a lot of money back in 1985. I bought myself a second hand car, a second hand caravan, everything I needed to deck out the caravan and even had enough left for a huge clothes shop and of course I had to have a few good parties lol. Also dad used to give me $2 a week pocket money when I was a kid. Usually he would give me the $2 note. One week he handed me the note and told me that there were 4 Aussie TV shows on the $2 note so of course I asked him to show me. He took my note, pointed at the sheep (war show baa baa black sheep) then he pointed to each corner of the note and said (four corners a news/current affair type show) then he quickly ripped my $2 note in half and said with a grin (jack the ripper a series on TV) and finally he threw my torn note over his shoulder and said (gone with the wind a TV series on the famous movie). I didn’t talk to him for days lol

@@karenmcneill2602 hahaha it wasn’t funny at the time. When I finally spoke to him the first thing I said “I want my pocket money in coins from now on” lol. I knew it was hard for my grand dad to save and appreciated how long he had to save for that amount, so I didn’t want to waste it.

Even now, sometimes people still refer to the paper notes as "real money".

What a great haul!!! I remember seeing the black blown Interceptor from Mad Max up close at Oran Park back in the 80s. Very iconic car...

I love camphor laurel trees, not the best thing to have in surburbia due to their root systems, they're are many camphor laurel trees on the east coast of Australia. Have to be one of the coolest (temperature wise) trees to be under the canopy of, however they actually are not native to Australia, they were introduced in the early 1800s, they're native to parts of Asia. In NSW at least they are a Class 4 noxious weed and are not allowed to be propagated, sold or distributed. They're are still many new sappers though that comes through from seed be dropped in bird droppings.

20 years ago my dad was doing wood turning, when ever he turned Campherloral I gathered up some of the shavings put em in little drawstring bags to be hung in the wardrobe / closet. The smell of the Campherloral keeps the moths away from the clothes.

Great reactions guys to your latest gift openings., especially the Adelaide hills guide. Did you know that South Australia has a border with every other state on Australia’s mainland. (Just a little fact that may interest you.) keep up the good work Ian, enjoying the videos. 👍🏼🤠

So much love. You'll have to get a bigger house to store all your goodies. I hear real estate in Gold Coast is good. Haha
