I love Järvi! We just renewed his contract for five more years in Zürich! And Sibelius well... extraordinary but very complex composer, as many others you have already watched. They require so much time to understand the depth of these compositions! Keep on! Your effort to listen these pieces is so remarkable!

Glad to see you reacting to my all time favorite composer. He's symphony cycles are something else. Where's no.8 god damn it. Why did you do this to us, Sibelius...

Don't worry about not being "in the zone". I can totally relate to that. Classical music pieces can and do cancel each other out when you listen to them back to back sometimes. There are times when I can barely even stand listening to my favorite pieces simply because my mood changed. This is normal. It's kind of like those color tests where a color can appear to change depending on all the colors surrounding it. Your reaction was still awesome because it was real. That's what we all like. Also, P.S. yea, even us classical junkies get bored in the middle of some of these long pieces. Not gonna lie, there's almost no piece longer than 15 minutes that at some point I don't have a moment of "checking out" or boredom. A lot of this music was written before the age of information technology, so going to hear/see the symphony was a whole social event, not just "listening" so composers would "pace" their music and also "pad it out" because like imagine going to the movie theatres to watch a 10-15 minute movie, lol. Anyways, keep going. Yes! A live performance would be neat! ❤🎶

Glad you liked Sibelius. I really think it is important that you listen to the pieces in one sitting. Don’t listen to things in between. The second movement fits right after the first movement. Even if you break up the video later, do listen to the symphonies in their entirety without stuff between. The timing between movements are difficult because a lot of romantic era music onwards may specifically call attacca, meaning without pause and straight into the next movement. Just focus on the piece as a whole.

Sibelius is yet another Nationalist, Gidi :) Nationalism was a very prominent movement in music from the mid-19th century. Incidentally, the sound of the bass drum in real life is actually physical ... you can feel it. I remember the first time I ever heard the bass drum in my first ever concert (Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique) and it blew my mind.

Sibelius music might be related to his home country but is too important to be subdued only to this categorization. His technique influenced modern composers like Wolfgang Rihm. Sibelius is as nationalist as Robert Schumann was I think.

A shorter one you could react to whenever is Modest Mussorgskys Night on Bald Mountain. Very energetic!

I got lost in this piece, very hypnotic and deep, intimate, serious, and meaning. A story in it's feeling

You need to listen to Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. It, Sibelius, and mendelssohn are considered the greatest violin concertos by most

Hey Gidi, I have a request. Since you like calm piano music like chopin. Maybe you would like Brahms Intermezzo in A major Op. 118 no. 2. Its really relaxing and beautiful!

Actually Sibelius 1st Symphony is the only Symphony of his I don't like! But that's just my opinion soif you love it that's great, a lot of people do. Anyway all of the others are absolutely amazing. Number 4 is extremely difficult but I think one of the greatest symphonies ever written.
