It's been about a year since I was last up in Grizedale and my goodness how it has changed. Huge swathes of trees are completely gone. others lay splintered and entwined with their fallen comrades from the relentless storms we've had in the last year or so. It's quite sad to see. Especially when you know how beautiful it was up there. The only saving grace is that they were pine and not our favourites like the silver birch and oak. However, despite the carnage it was a grand day out in nature! Thanks for watching 😊

Nice walk Glen. Wasn't it Grizedale Hall that Messerschmitt Me109 pilot Franz von Werra escaped from? Film "The one that got away" is about him.

I walked round the Forest back in the 1970s. We found a ladder against a tree. Climbing it we found a tree house. There was a man sat in it, who explained he was a fire watcher. "How long have you been here", "Since 8:30", "No, how many years?" , "15 years" "Have you seen any fires", "Not yet". Well it is the Lakes!

Grizedale Hall was a WW2 POW camp because it is so far from the east coast. The POWs were high ranking officers who the allies did not want to escape, but I seem to remember reading that 1 or more did get out. Thank you for the nice walks & interesting chat.

I can imagine it to be very beautiful here in early summer and Autumn, just need some good light. crepuscular rays and weather inversions. You can't say I haven't learnt anything. 😆 Thanks Glenn.

If that's Grizedale forest next to Coniston water , I took my mountain bike from hf holidays Coniston up there a few years ago. The ascent was tricky in a low gear , but whizzing around the tracks was great fun for the day. With a picnic overlooking Coniston.

Thanks for another entertaining adventure, 'squelchy-boots'! You have inspired me not only to get out more, locally, but also to finally make the long trip out of Cornwall and come up to the Lakes for a bit of fell-walking adventure of my own! I'll be in and around Glenridding and Patterdale next week for a few days. I'm hoping for some dry(ish) weather....yeah, I know, dreamland probably! Helvellyn is the ultimate goal, but I have 3 other walks mapped and loaded, around the area. Unfortunately, I have also killed off my boots today, as the left one is now definitely not waterproof! 😳😂 New boots shopping day tomorrow, yay! I look forward, as always, to your next episode, wherever that may take you! 😁👍

Thanks, Glen. I was wondering, were you supposed to go up to the giant stile, then the Fox and loop round past the other tarn? Before dropping down? I saw the sculpture you were trying to find. It was years ago, and I was with a group of very young children. Let's just say the conversation got a bit tricky!!!😊

I always look forward to Sunday night and viewing your latest Black Crag video. Too me, I can't see why the authorities would cut down (not all of those trees were blown down; too many marks of power saws on some) unless it's because they wanted the younger trees to have a chance to grow. We are just now seeing the signs that Spring is on it's way here in the Texas Hill Country--the Red Bud bushes and Oriental Plums are blooming but we're still awaiting those smart Pecan Trees to put out green shoots. But I believe I waxed eloquent about all of that last Sunday. Have a wonderfully blessed rest of your week and once again, thanks for this video.

Went upto carron crag in October it's a fantastic walk and the views were fantastic. I then volunteered to take the kids on the tree top ropes and zip wires, where I quickly realised as an adult I don't like heights like I used to 😂😂

Eeeeh, this video has taken me back, in a roundabout sort of way! I went to Lancaster Uni, where (for those who don't know) there are 9 colleges on the campus, each named after a place in the local area, and each with its own bar. Friday nights were 'Campus Bar Crawl' night usually starting at County College (which was a bit pants, sorry County, but it was!) at the northern end of Campus, and went down the hill. The 7th bar was Grizedale, which would often have a disco on called the 'Grizedale Sh*te' 😂. It was actually a pretty good disco, but the college was notorious for having the smallest rooms on campus (the rumour was they couldn't legally put plaster in the walls because it would violate the regulations against habitable living space) and the most basic bar. Plus they were right next door to Pendle College, which was the expensive college with a giant but soulless bar that looked like an airport lounge. Their Friday night disco WAS sh*te 😂😂😂 Also, Freshers week, me and a friend signed up to the Hikers Club, and the first walk was Old Man of Coniston. We were NOT prepared for that walk 😂, not least because we were probably hungover after a campus bar crawl. 803m tall, and I think we set off from the town as well, so a roughly 700m ascent. The summit was in cloud so we didn't even get the views. We didn't go on any more walks after that, I think we maybe should have started with a smaller hill 😂😂😂

Loved riding around Grizdale.. think the last time I went was a few years ago we sacked off the walk as we seemed to get wet very fast, after only about 30min, we were getting damp, but lucky we stopped early as we got surrounded by flood water on all the roads.. just about made it out the area..we had to drive down to Kendal to get back to Keswick! Area looks very different now. Thanks for showing us around.

I worked in the forestry commission for 12 years as a cutter I.E chainsaw work those trees you see downed, it's called winblow, the ones that you pointed are fairly young not properly rooted either because of terrain or what species thay, cutters disslike wind blow takes an age to clear up, and makes the work harder than it allready is... making it more dangerous when you are in amongst the bigger trees...specially amongst pine... pine are a shallow rooted...😮

Great video of an area i have yet to further explore. As for mysterious footsteps. We took a tea time walk up Gowbarrow in June 2015. My then partner shot off to bag the trig. I could see him bobbing along in the distance. I was on a bit of a gravel path and i heard footsteps coming up behind me. I tuned to give a cheery hello but no one was there. The foosteps carried on past me. As you can imagine i bolted. All the time had a feeling of being watchec.
