I can tell you that when I got saved and cut back on the amount of news I watched/read and started reading the Bible more, I became infinitely more joyful, happy, and content. The world can't offer you anything. The Lord offers abundant life!
A couple years ago, I took all social media off my phone. I also cancelled Face Book and Twitter. It makes a difference. It's harder for our younger generation as they grew up with these things. I grew up with rotary phones, operators, and Party Lines. Oh, and 3 TV channels if the tin foil was on the rabbit ears the right way. I have a smart phone but I use it rather than the other way around.
This is so true. I often feel overwhelmed with the constant news of murders, crime, terror attacks, tragedies, natural disasters, accidents, etc. I never thought of it as a “faux omniscience “ but I sure long for the days when I wasn’t faced with an overwhelming face full of evil and violence and disaster. Thank you for pointing out that I am not responsible for caring and carrying the whole load. I will consciously turn it all over to my sovereign Lord.
I have been choosing to not watch certain RU-vid channels anymore because i recognized that the news was to stressful. I enjoy some of the preachers, and channels like yours. I have started feeling much better. Focus on the good, not bad.
Same. It gets too overwhelming. It’s hard because even if you pause too long it auto plays. Then it throws tons more like it at you. I’m constantly clicking not interested or don’t recommend channel. Yet the negative channels still pop up.
I've been praying about why I'm so miserable, these hints we're being dropped, and this video came up. Everything is so depressing and discouraging I can't handle all the doom and gloom all the time. God truly cares.

I spend to much time on my phone...I can admit that. You tube shorts are and can be very addictive. That said, I would have probably never found Wretched, John MacArthur, Steve Lawson... properly used, your phone can be a blessing, like always... opinions will vary.
I know this too well. RU-vid is the biggest 50/50 split in the entire internet, given theres a lot of good stuff here, but often you have to wade through dozens of stuff that isn't what you need. Will be praying for you, please also pray for me that i can cut my youtube usage to less than 2 hours a week.
Oh wow! Great Todd ..........only this week i have changed the use of my phone to listening to piano worship tunes, instead of the world which are so peacefull, so as to maintain my peacefull soul as i travel here and there and what i am doing in my home town street preaching is my duty to Him , ...not taking on the entire world, though i keep an eye on it.

I keep having to turn off the news, and be selective over the RU-vid videos i watch as the overdose of negativity, evil and lies/bias keeps getting overwhelming. Phil 4:8 tells us to focus on things of good report. Nice to do, and so beneficial for your joy and mental health.
Boy, are you right. I’ve been down with a broken hip. Been on social media way too much. A huge Smorgasbord of stimulation. Like a horrific accident you just can’t pull your eyes away from Some has me running to God in fear, disbelief, and disgust. God says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8-9
I think world events is having opposite effect. Seeing what's happening all around us brings be closer to the Lord and gives me an urgency I never had before to share the Gospel. Watching everyday for Jesus return!! Our King is coming soon! ❤🎺🎺🙏⤴️⬆️✝️🕊
Been feeling the same. Sometimes locked in. It can be a hypnotizing lure of finding myself drawn in to the next highlighted, sensationalist news event. Need to PUSH myself away (playing " whack a mole " with the carnal nature) and run to God's Word, spending time in His eternal promises and instruction.
Wow faux omniscience. This is me too often. We are stressed and fretting about a world we don’t live in and have no control over. I pray for it and believers daily, that should be enough brain space I allow it. We are in the lives and place God gave us to touch and glorify him. A million thanks Todd! Even RU-vid can be all consuming. I need to take a break from it except for a few select preachers. I get so easily distracted. I click the app and then get distracted on a whole ‘nother subject than what I went to listen to in the beginning. I’m doing better with Fb because it’s awful with all the ads. My plan is to deactivate it and messenger soon. But then I will miss some of my extended family. It’s hard.
@@ritadyer9295 I understand and agree ,when I got rid of FB messenger twitter it was a little rough but now it's wonderful. My friends and children actually call me or text . I've never been on tick-toc and no desire too. I have put RU-vid in cognito time to time I have also unsubscribed from a while lot of pages . Maybe have 4 preachers now ,cleaning it right up . RU-vid I 99% will keep at least til it gets on my last nerve . We have lost our humanity and desire to put God first in many ways . When I was on FB I kept InTouch by email with people I didn't want too lose .
@@ritadyer9295not being rude. Sincerely trying to help... You can't text them? God told me to get rid of social media when I was saved 12 years ago. For the most part, I have. I've never thought of RU-vid as social media, but I guess it is.
The PC and the internet have allowed me to take online classes from Vision International University (VIU) a Bible school directing me to a degree in MA - Christian Counseling.
us gals were just discussing this very thing in our b. study tonight. I needed to hear it again the way you put it though to really sink in deep. I skim over the horrible headlines daily sometimes more than once and wow it can really be hard to digest. I truly need to put the brakes on reading the world news. I sometimes cry when I read about murders or children being hurt. It can truly be harmful to read about these sort of things daily. I just thought I was staying informed but its true, we cant manage it ALL can we?
1 Timothy 6:6 says this: " but godliness when accompanied by contentment is a means of great gain. Contentment then is a learned thing according to Philippians 4:11-13. Learned in that abiding relationship found in John 15.
Thank you for this very important message! I'm so guilty of this and now I know where my anxiety comes from. I just hope the anxiety, frustration, unhappiness goes away after dropping the bad phone habits. Amen
So *that* is why Job got so scared when God showed him what it is to see the world through His eyes! he could not handle the overload! only God can handle everything at once! because God alone is truly Omniscient! We are trying to see this wretched and fallen and horrid world through Gods eyes, we cannot handle it (as we were never designed to, God made us in His image, but without His Omniscience!) and we are burning ourselves out in doing so! I do not use my cell phone for anything other than emergency calls and situations. I do not text or respond to texts; If someone wants to "chat" and "visit" with me they can chat and visit with me on my landline. If I receive a text from a family member or friend saying "this is an emergency situation" I will call them. The only app I have is for the weather--I do not use nor want apps for social media, news, games, money wallets, internet searches and email, or anything else.
I love this. I hate taking in all sorts of information I do! It feels great to know I don’t need to know everything happening in the world. The world is screwed up, man.

Yes for me. I took a look back to when I first became a Christian in 1980/10. I see the hand of Jesus Christ beginning at age 12, then again at age 24. The hand of God bringing me to Himself. Here is one thing of many, He the Holy Spirit said, “I want you to buy this house, and I did.” We were in the market for a different house, but here is the proof of the address “1151 Freedom Lane.” The ‘11’ is my birth month, and ‘51’ is my birth year. Confirmed. Me nothing but in Him, something.
The internet is ruining my life! I spend hours scrolling through Facebook and RU-vid because I am bored! I am used to working and volunteering and exercising. Now my life has stopped with retirement. There is nothing left to do.
Look back at your old family photos. How do you feel? Sad. Upset. Because you long for the past, wonder what you could, should, have done different, wish the children (others) were little again because you miss them,... Not saying it is a sin. Not at all! Just wondering.
If it wasn't for my job, I wouldn't even have a cell phone. I don't have any social media like facebook or my space or anything like that. I do use YT, obviously.
I must be a really weird person... I have a smartphone (which is required for my job), and I have a PC that I am on regularly, but yet... I have very little interest in "the news". I don't watch TV, and outside of video titles of videos that pop up on my front page of RU-vid, I don't bother looking for news about what's going on in the world. I'll see little trickles of stuff here-and-there, but I rarely click such articles or videos unless it's something I am curious about, or something that actually affects/impacts me directly. I see the corruption in our government, and I roll my eyes thinking that I'm on a ship that has 5 year old children at the helm who have no clue what they're doing and I'm like "oh well. I'm just gonna sit in my house, and do my thing, as long as I can". I see what's going on in the Middle East, and every now and then I'll post a comment on some youtube short about it but otherwise? /shug whatever. Nothing shocks me anymore. People always put click-baity titles like "this SHOCKING thing happened" and I'm like "where's the shock?" or "this will SHOCK you!" and I'm like "... uh, no?" .. The only thing robbing me of joy is the loneliness of my life. I live out in the middle of nowhere, with a few family members nearby (that I am losing one at a time) that I talk to occasionally, and my cat. I go to work but as I started a new job 6 months ago, I don't really know anybody there other than one or two people that I've talked to some, and the two that helped me get in, I see them once a week. Otherwise it's just me, myself, and I and a very boring and drab life. But I'm not really a people person, so I'm slow to make friends, and it's very hard for me to find people that I feel comfortable around. Very few people share my interests, I'm one of those weird in-between people. Too old to connect with the 20-30 year olds who enjoy more modern tech (most 20-30 year olds are just so immature that I can't stand being around them), but yet too young to connect with the 50+ year old people and all they care about is hunting, trucks, fishing, etc which I have very little interest in.
To add to this, I think... a better way of putting it, is that the prevailing emotion I feel day-to-day is more _apathy_ than anything. I'm not the type of person who is at risk of harming himself, but yet at the same time, I find it hard to care about anything in the world. The Bible says that everything will be burnt up, so there's no reason to care about silly things like leaving a legacy behind, or putting hard work or money (something I don't have a lot of to begin with) into anything of this world that I'm going to leave behind when I die anyhow, and most of the time when I try to talk about the Lord to people they scoff, roll their eyes, or politely try to dodge their way out of such conversations, so it ain't like I'm going to get anybody to actually join us, and He never really gave me the charisma and people skills to really go preaching anyhow. So that kinda led me to this life that just feels devoid of any real purpose, just waiting on Him to take me while going about the motions.
Thank you, I do read a lot also. But with new technology wouldn’t the Lord want us to make use of this. Do you think He wants us to be warned with what we see happening outside of our community? If I didn’t know how bad Chicago is or other cities Maybe I would not be extra careful when I went there? Not just Chicago but other big cities like New York and San Francisco?

My testimony on the mobile thing. My soul? It's growing back. I'm thankful for a master, the vine, the shepherd is helping me rehabilitate my mind and spirit. I was in despair for a while, when so much of the world, in overwhelming volume filtered in as I worked the night shifts as my glorious part to play in the body of Christ. Night shift, in order to be present in Sunday congregation, and have enough to give to the poor, and all this, while the wife the Lord Gave me, helped me survive this emotional onslaught. I'm a really masculine guy, but this mobile device enlightenment was caustic. And then, the false God of Idolatry presented himself in the form of a novel mobile game which mixes the thrill of conquest with the soothing balm of being outdoors walking around, seeing local art, memorials, educational points of interest (including church signs). I've read some Kyle Idleman, and it's the world wrapping its Kudzu vines around my soul which find a vector for ingression through this brick of gold and tempered glass, which demands my attention at all times.

Thanks, brother! This has given me some stuff to think about. I have been troubled for a while about my lack of joy. I mean, it is one of the fruits of the spirit, isn't it? I do a spiritual inventory, and most of it checks off, all except this one, and I have been wondering why and praying about it. I think you have helped me identify part of the issue. Unfortunately, there I this other part. While, yes, I do realize that perhaps I am flooding myself with the cares of the world, the problem is there are numerous negative "stories" (if you will) occurring to family and friends. Yes, I take them to God in prayer daily, but they weigh me down. In a sense, they steal my joy because they are always on my heart and mind. I'm not sure what to do about this...
Well here’s my situation, I study Scripture as much as possible and I’m very interested in apologetics so I study that also and I witness to others often as possible, so my dilemma is that I have no reason to be joyful here, now because my career is over due to the plandemic and I just really want out! I’m done with the world and I see no reason to continue to be here. No worries, I will not commit suicide, tried that years ago so that’s not the answer, it’s that I’m really stuck here and I’m just done with the world and the never ending mendacity. Ultimately, joy is just not there, I have nothing NOTHING to look forward to except “going home”…..
Todd Friel claims he's not a Calvinist but where does his doctrine come from? He will probably never start a real deep Bible study on his channel because he knows that 99% of his audience is not interested in the Bible-they are interested in gossip and revealing scandal and they can only handle so much... Real Bible study is work and "clicks" will disappear if he goes off the algorithm. Bottomless gossip and scandal are good for clicks and ultimately will move many to contribute for financial support of a this "new partnership of not teaching the true gospel" by all involved.
This was incredibly helpful. Literally just this morning I typed in “news,” and it was just a continuous stream of articles about murder and mutilation and terrorism. I want to be informed to the extent that I can make informed decisions about how to live and respond wisely, but to know all of the terrible things that are happening is just too much for me. A long time ago most people would just read the paper. Yes, the paper would have terrible news in it, but a newspaper can only be but so big. You can only fit but so much bad news in it. You were forced to limit yourself to a small amount of information. Now, the amount articles and information concerning the evil of this world are incalculable. I have just given up on it. I will look at the news and limit myself to a couple articles a week, but I can’t do any more than that, and by limiting myself, I’m a happier person. I will pray concerning the terrible things that I learned, and I can praise God for the great things that I hear that are happening, but I was not meant to know it all.
People really needs to FAST from using their Phones. I have stayed away from my phone and Tv it helps me to have more peaceful mind & moments with God.

The pixelloid has replaced the tabloid and the text is replaced by pictures and surround sounds..conceptual and reflective learning are missing.. l remember Bernard Ramm in his Evangelical Heritage wrote decades ago that we must have integrated understanding and not just tid bits..
I agree with most of this, but to be fair, it's been a VERY long time since we didn't have the nightly national/world news and newspaper to provide more than local news.
I have a cell phone which is not one of those so called smartphones, which I do not need or want! I also have a tablet, that is, a compact home computer, which I use for self educational purposes! And as a Christian myself I have this word to the wise; Do not let this sort of technology take up too much of your time and your life! Take plenty of time to experience, and interact with, the world out there, and communicate with flesh and blood people!!
I needed to hear this badly. I try to keep up with what's going on so I'm not in the dark when it might affect my family or myself but it gets so overwhelming that it sucks all joy from life.
I miss the old world. I miss it so much. Growing up in the 90’s we were the last generation going outside, writing letters, and simply had to have patience.

Omniscience and omnipresence are attributes of God alone. We cannot go anywhere without seeing people on their cell phones instead of interacting with humans. There isn’t one thing on the internet that we can’t live without. Yes, I do use it, but this is and should be an eye opener. Not that we didn’t know it, but didn’t want to acknowledge it.
I have always looked at the effects technology has had upon my life and how it can become a major hinderance in my life. I thank the Lord for showing me this!
