I hope you enjoyed my red light therapy does it work video - I hope it shows you how the illumination pattern of panels ensures that you need panels aimed directly at your body for good results. If you don't aim the light directly at your skin, you won't get results. As you can see in the video, the further away you stand from the panel, the lower the intensity of the light will become also. Dosing protocols will also be more difficult with this outcome. Comment if you have questions below.

I have two Bio Max 900 panels. I mounted them in a closet on opposite walls. One for the upper body and the other for the lower body. I average 8-12 inches (20-30 cm) distance from each panel and gradually rotate my body around in a circle over the course of a 15 minute session to try to get even coverage on all body parts. Thanks Alex for all the info and testing that you do, we appreciate the time, effort and energy you put into getting good information out there. Would like to see a test on the Bio Max 900, though I think it might come up with similar results as these two.

You can save yourself some time by only testing results at 12, or even 18 inches, and the result will tell you the focus angle of the LEDs which allow you to calculate the width at 6 inches, etc. Also if you know the midpoint, you only need to test one side instead of both. Further saving you more time.

Hello Alex! I am checking your amazing comparisons videos, and I LOVE them! Sooo much measurement work put on them, thank you so much for that!!! I am in Europe and checking aswell MITO LIGHT (not MITO RED LIGHT) because they have a bigger panel with more than 400 led. And with this video info, it would make sense. But although I see your discount code work on their website (so i guess you know them) I don’t see any reviews from you of their panels, and I would love to hear your thoughts on them before I buy it! (And if there’s any other expert in the field, also welcome😊) THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE and sincere congrats on your amazing work!

I have multiple devices and find that if I’m back from the light and do longer sessions (I work and do other things, I don’t just focus on doing the therapy) that I get plenty of effect over the period of using them. I also use some wraps for specific areas. Because I’m not focused on doing the all time most popular 15 minutes rotating with single or multiple panels, I can enjoy the process and not be too over dedicated to sessions. The key to red light and NIR is what you feel are the results you’re getting. I personally don’t feel much standing in front of a panel for 15 minutes. However my typical routine as described produces great results for me.
@jeffbachmann7161
@jeffbachmann7161 Год назад
I applaud you for fiquring out the reality of what you get for a specific panel. Seems to me that if you don't do something like this you have no idea if your Red light therapy is worthwhile. Since too little does nothing and too much can remove the benefits as well. I think you should do the Hooga panels because they are less expensive and possibly more doable as a full panel station where you use a few.
@AlexFergusdotcom
@AlexFergusdotcom Год назад
Ok yes I will be doing this test for every panel in my end of year comparison video - that will include the Hooga :)

Alex, Great Video! I really like how you are trying to be objective! One additional complication is that once the light enters the body, it will scatter and blur to some extend. I also sysoect that whatever therapeutic effect people get from these things is nonlinear with light. i.e. 1 min of intense light at 100mW/cm2 is like 10 mins at 50mw/cm2 and below 10mW/cm2 (the equivalent of walking around naked in the sun) there probably isn't much benefit unless you do it for a whole day.
@AlexFergusdotcom
@AlexFergusdotcom 8 месяцев назад
Yes great point! It also depends on the tissue it hits - fat, muscle, bone etc. It is all a complex topic and it's why I don't like giving out simple dosing recommendations. What is your background btw?

Alex, really grateful for your time and effort in putting this together. I have only recently discovered red light therapy (and your channel) and was considering gettting involved in a slower (as well as a cheaper) way with a table top model like the Hooga pro 300. After seeing this video I am more hesitant. If these larger body panels drop off so much, it would stand to reason that the smaller table top versions would be much less effective as well, right?
@AlexFergusdotcom
@AlexFergusdotcom Год назад
Hey, welcome to my channel :) Yeah good point - I haven't tested the smaller ones, but yes I would wager a bet it would be the same effect. I'm thinking a wider panel is best to minimise this effect.

Hi Alex, I’d love for you to take a look at Celluma. I’m an esthetician and have used their products on clients for years now. In my field, they were considered the best right light you could buy. The theory was that it wraps around whatever area you’re treating and the fact that it’s practically touching the skin, means a more effective treatment. I’m curious though, how it compares to all these other companies, which people in my field don’t really use, since our purposes are for beauty and anti-aging. I’m wanting to purchase something for myself and after watching this, I’m just not sure which direction to go. My main focus is on the face and neck, was going to get a Hooga for that, since the Celluma ones are very pricey. Also wanted to mention that many years ago when I was researching red light, the theory was to use it in an enclosed space, such as a sauna or shower (obviously without water running ;), but the idea being that the light would be enclosed around you, making it more effective. Have you heard about this?
@AlexFergusdotcom
@AlexFergusdotcom Год назад
Hey, Ok it's on my list of things to look into this week :) I think the newer panels are going to offer better value and performance than some of the traditional RLT products. But I do need to test them before making a firm comment. Light in an enclosed area, well you may benefit from some reflection etc. But it wouldn't be a huge benefit. You may find this video interesting though - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QmxfNlOXs90.html

Amazing video! I'm just getting started with researching RLT in the past week; this seems to me to expose a manufacturing issue of how they're controlling beam angles; it would seem they could do a better job to even out the energy across the panel instead of allowing multiple LEDs to combine power thus creating these hot spots. I'd be interested in seeing these readings on your 4 panel biomax 900 setup.

Hi Alex, thank you very much for sharing all this valuable information and it's understandable that you cover the devices of the more well-known and bigger companies. However, a long time ago I came across The Red Light Man (a small UK company) which has been making red light therapy devices for quite a number of years and I would love to hear your assessment of his products as I feel that the owner is very knowledgeable, passionate and genuine. I think he says that his devices do extend their power coverage range quite a lot beyond the size of the actual device. Any chance you could test his products? (I have zero connection with the company - and I still haven't bought any red light device at all but I do plan to buy one soon!). Many thanks!

I think you should compare Clear Light - Red Light panel (Jacuzzi Light Tower). They have a very powerful unit. Wide Optics light ranges from 40-60 degrees and Narrow Optics light ranges from 7-30 degrees for targeted and deeper penetration. It’s so strong that I burned my chest area standing too close (about 6”) after a few sessions. (Not quite first degree burn) but noticeable burn marks. It also can be used either stand alone or inside of their full spectrum infra red sauna. I also own their 2 person sauna since 2020. Before purchasing from them, I reviewed most of the panels you have shown in your videos. Although their cost was on the higher end, I felt it was well worth my investment. I would be interested in viewing your results in comparison to those you’ve tested.

Alex great work! I wonder though how a double stack of panels changes the amounts absorbed through your measured range. Is there a doubling effect at the seam or a reduction? How about a double stack of 8 gen BioMax 900s which has an advertised 24”X72” coverage. No matter what you choose I’m watching, great work! -David

Hey Alex. Thanks for doing this, and I look forward to your end of year review. I’m new to the red light therapy world…have done enough research to scramble my brain! I don’t hear a very promising or satisfactory option based on your report here.

Great and informative video as usual Alex. Any reviews that cover the Platinum LED Biomax panels would be very much appreciated. I invested in the 900 & 450 and I'm sold on it. Also, if you decide to get more than one panel from Platinum LED, spend the extra money on the combos. I ended up buying them separately and spent more than $100 more than I needed too. I didn't have the cash at the time and I was a bit impatient. I didn't want to wait a minute longer to get myself and my family the health benefits of NIR & Red light health benefits. I wanted to get our heat shock protein going! @medcram breaks down some excellent scientific research on the effects of NIR and red light.

Hey Alex...Love your work.. My girlfriend has epilepsy so I bought the mitored adapt min for the 810nm. Do u think the adapt min panel is more powerful than one of those red light helmets? Thank you my friend
@AlexFergusdotcom
@AlexFergusdotcom Год назад
Hey, Thanks :) Oh I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriends condition. I just had another question on this topic, so I'll paste the response i gave them here for you as well (It's a bit off on an tangent, but you may find value in the replay). Great question. I can't comment on that, but it is something I'm looking into. My son is epileptic. I know there is some data showing RLT to be beneficial for epilepsy, but I am nervous using devices like this on my son. The reason - RLT does have a stimulating effect, what happens if it actually triggers a seizure? I am taking my Son to Perth to work with Dr Randy Beck from www.IFN.net.au (he also has a singapore clinic which you can see here - www.ifnsingapore.com/epilepsy-help ) Dr Beck uses a range of treatment methods - but one is red light therapy - however he uses very precise application of light (using lasers instead of LEDs I believe) and only on specific areas of the brain (his patients to a lot of QEGG's to show the team what is going on in the brain). I'll do updates on my Son's treatment (starts late July) in my regular RLT news videos if you like? As for the Adapt being more powerful than a helmet - YES! Much more powerful. The panels have LEDs that put out a lot of power (and heat) so need to be encased in metal and include heat sinks and fans. The helmets are plastic with no cooling features...

Another question that would be interesting to answer is : how wide is the spectrum of each wavelength ? Because maybe a 2 wavelength panel covers the other wavelengths too,even if they're not the peak
@stallen
@stallen Год назад
As far as I know he hasn’t made a dedicated video about that, but he has talked about it briefly in a couple of his videos with his spectrometer. Basically, the LEDs peak very close to their specifications (sometimes off by only +/- 2nm) but they do provide some wavelength of about 20nm on each side of the spectrum. For example, an 830nm LED will provide about 810nm-850nm with the peak and most intensity at 830nm.
@AlexFergusdotcom
@AlexFergusdotcom Год назад
Hey, when you say 'how wide is the spectrum of each wavelength', do you mean what exact wavelengths are being emitted (as alluded to by @Stallen) or whether the wavelength changes how the light is emitted? If the latter - it shouldn't matter, all light in these wavelengths should before the same way. The only thing that would effect it is the LED chip/bulb
@zenetfort
@zenetfort Год назад
@@AlexFergusdotcom I mean thé spectrum of light emited. Does a light of 850nm only emits 850nm ? Or does it emit 840nm and 860 too, but at 10% less, and 830 and 870 nm at 50% less, do you see what I mean ?

This is such a good argument for wider panels. A 10 inch panel isn't really 10 inches when it comes to LEDs. How wide, 8 i lnches? This is why i haven't been able to settle on a panel after all this time, in addition to FSA eligible. I want what i want. I do appreciate Mito's new megaX, that may be the one. Rojo is nice too but not fsa eligible.

with a higher beam angle, you get a higher degree of interference, so it makes good sense that the light is focused from the center of the lamp. Conclusion lower beam angle is to prefer.

I think if you’re getting multiple panels, you don’t have a benefit of putting them butted up side by side. Better off having space between them knowing they will spread and have overlap. So you could use a formula to note how big a gap between them (side by side on same wall), that also takes into consideration the distance from the panel and combine that with the amount of time. I wonder what adding mirrors in a small space would do to reflect light back onto you that is bypassing you?
