NEW SHOW Guess the MMR: PiG will attempt to guess your exact MMR! Send your replay to RateMyStarcraft@gmail.com with "Guess the MMR" in the title + in the body add your IGN & MMR & region (e.g. Maru, 3600, EU). Name your replay in the format: IGN - Server (e.g. Maru - EU)
This was inspired by Harstem’s Rank Roulette. The thing about that show is that you only get to see a tiny snippet of the games, and I much prefer to dive deeper and see for myself what’s going on. Doesn’t mean I’m any more correct on my guesses though…

I really liked the thoughtful breakdowns of why you were adjusting your guesses because they demonstrate your deep knowledge of SCII and effectively double as bits of coaching advice for the submitted replays.

I love this series so much. Only thing I'd suggest adding is bookmarks in the video between games. Unlike a series you casted, it is not like the timestamps will spoil a game outcome.

I try to guess higher or lower before the reveal, before hanging my own number. 3 for 3 today, but also not close on #2. I think maybe I'll watch the video without sound, guess (not seeing your guess), then re-watch with sound, and guess before you, then after you. So three guesses for skill in observing, each wih more information. Great video.

I think in general people overestimate how easy it can be to get the first few minutes right - it's the most practiced part of the game! As PiG said, the opening in game 2 was *tight*, but then it just peters out.

How bad is it to go pool (or hatch)/ double gas/cancel gas trick before your first overlord Overlord? Back in SC1 the gas trick was all the rage but now I don't see anyone utilizing it. Would it put you too far behind? Is it too greedy?

In SC2 it's considered a try hard move. Meaning, maybe a Masters 1/GM player could get about 6 extra minerals out of it, but any sloppiness would cost, plus, it's more important to get drones on the right minerals. But really, net net +- 5 minerals, so stylistic difference only. Except, also good to rev up your APM fingers.

Gas cancel is usually only used if you mess up something in your bo, like forgetting to make the overlord or something like that. But aside from that it's just not worth the apm

It's generally considered to be most efficient to just always go 13 overlord. I've heard people argue that with perfect execution you can do a single extractor trick to get like 5? more minerals but if you are even slightly slow on it you come out in the negative

Thanks so much! I sent that game in 4 months ago, and believe it or not I just hit diamond 3 for the first time in my life yesterday, so the practice has definitely smoothed things out!

Are the "answer" MMRs the average between the two? because you can easily match with someone way higher or lower than you than +/- 200 mmr

I guess 2325, 4500, and 2300, which means I just barely missed getting any points. I dropped my first guess a ton because the factory and starport weren't hotkeyed at all. He must have been manually going to his base and clicking on them to build tanks and medivacs. Overadjusted too much for game 2

I guessed 3900 for game 2. It was a tight opening but he had no follow up. I assume masters players know how to follow up too. I’m 3600 for context.

only 300 mmr between the first and last games blows my mind. that realitvely small range seems to have a disproportionate level of skill.

I think yo should focus a bit more on why you're being sent those replays: If a players shows a game with no adversity at all, like he played well but wasn't truly tested, it is safe to assume he can't stand the stress test.

That's a bug! It doesn't affect your mmr and the opponents you are facing, but the leagues are glitched.

@@TheZorak420 NO SHIT, STILL BRONZE LEAGUE untill they fix it, which has been going on 2 years now, with this season being one of the very worst. Even leaving the league and doing your requal dont work to fix the issue this season.

It was actually fixed for I think most of the last 6 months to a year? But unfortunately the bug just kicked in again. Sucks that Blizzard is so lazy, but I'd advise writing down the rough league borders so you can still see what your actual league is. And this seasons the worst its been, currently sitting in the 2800 range my self and went from gold 1 last season straight to bronze this season and leaving the league and requal doesnt work to get you back like it used to. Also there seems to be a non promotion thing going on that you can go past the mmr promotion number but it wont promote you to the next rank up. Blizzard needs to get on the ball when it comes to all this.

This game is dead, there's almost ZERO new players. Those that do try to start playing get STOMPED CONSTANTLY by all the old players that 1 smurf, (previously diamond level players in like silver league...) or just old plat players that get ranked in gold now because that is literally the new paradigm because like stated before NO NEW PLAYERS!

This game is now 12 years old and notorious as being one of the hardest games to get into. There's still plenty of new players, you just need to get into a community or clan to find them

it's kinda funny because i feel like the exact opposite is happening.. the leagues are heavily inflated(playing on china server) im an old gold player in HotS and i get placed into plat 1 with 2800mmr lol. that is literally after i lost all my calibration matches.. most new players join sc2 to play coop or arcade, and would not grind ladder games.

I was the guy in the third game in this video, I sent that video in about a month after getting into starcraft for real, and I didn't get stomped. I got placed in silver where I belonged, watched a lot of pig videos, practiced, made it to gold by the time I sent that replay in, and hit diamond just yesterday. It's totally possible to still get into the game now, as long as you're willing to lose some games while you practice and figure things out, it's totally reasonable to work your way up the ranks.
