#49 - Welcome back, once again, to the Old Rope Salvage workshop at the barn on a farm in Cornwall. We are Lisa and Tim and if you don’t know by now, we are currently neck deep in the epic restoration challenge of our vintage 70s Bedford truck and have spent almost 3 years transforming her old bones from rusty wreck into a gleaming carriage of gold, silver and .. er, brown. Well, it was built in the 70s!
We are most definitely maybe on the home straight now, and for the last few weeks we have been tackling the mighty front axle. All half ton of it. Dismantling every last nut and bolt: Cleaning, sandblasting, repairing, plating, powder coating, painting … it’s had the whole works!
We currently have the whole thing in all its disassembled parts laid out on our workbench, and since you last saw us, Tim has completed work on the passenger side and is well under way with the driver’s side also. So in this week’s video, if you’re really lucky, we might possibly get the thing finished, reassembled, and bolted back onto the chassis … Won’t that be grand?

This channel is the story of us, Tim & Lisa, and our attempt to build the World's Greatest HOUSE-on-WHEELS on the World's Smallest Budget ... A unique motorhome, if you like, part vintage 70s, part off road overlander, all tiny home on wheels.
We are 2 'old enough to know better' artists from Cornwall in the UK, and together we are building this off-grid home on wheels from the remains of a 1975 Bedford Firetruck.
We bought the truck on eBay at the end of 2020 and had it delivered by an even bigger truck to a huge, old barn-on-a-farm we are renting to use as our workshop whilst we undertake this challenge.
Well, several YEARS and a few set backs later, we’re currently in the process of ‘lovingly’ restoring the base vehicle, taking the whole thing apart, piece by rusty piece, so we can make it all new and shiny again, before we embark on the even bigger task of building a home on its back out of nothing more than grit, imagination, sweat, tears and possibly a bit of magic and wishful thinking!
